G’day guys, we’d like to show the video of our new tinny being restored. Its a Quick Edit of what we did to the boat to get it looking brand new!!
We brought this particular tinny of gumtree with a 1979 15 hp Johnson Two Stroke for $500. It had bad red dust stains from living up north and travelling around the state as a roof topper. It had old stickers stuck to the sides, aluminium that needed a good cleaning + painting, and an engine that needed a few simple repairs and the whole thing over all just needed a good cleaning and some TLC.
We started the process of restoring this tinny by removing the red dust stains, oxidisation and old stickers by sanding with fine grit sandpaper and some elbow grease. The boat then got a good soapy bath and got dried off. We then rolled some aluminium Etch primer that allows the paint to stick to the aluminium, added two layers of white aluminium paint then stuck painters tape for the selected areas we wanted white. With the final coats of white finished we then used red paint to paint the sides of the boat to finish off the look. With the paint set we added some stickers. With the outside done, we then turned to the inside and added 12mm marine plywood for the seats and floors with marine carpet stapled and glued down. For the frame of the casting platform we used an old esky then framed with aluminium extrusion glued down with heavy duty silicone glue and riveted it in place.
We are going to film some more clips over the coming weeks of the final fit-out, including rod holders, sounders, fitting and servicing the engine etc.
Be sure to stay tuned over the next week or two. Plenty more videos coming your way including a video of Logan and his family heading out to 250m for some big 8-Bar Cods.
We are gonna try and film as much as we can from now on!!
sorry for the re-upload we had experience quite bad quality.
Thanks for Watching and Make sure to Like and Subscribe,

Hey mate I feel like it would weigh heaps... Would adding.just a front deck be worth it
@FishnFun
@FishnFun 3 года назад
No it wasn't worth it for a tinny this size but in a bigger tinny it would work quite well, cheers!

Hey man did you need to use a specific paint?
@FishnFun
@FishnFun 2 года назад
Nah not really man, any oil based aluminium etch primer and decent marine grade enamel would do just fine. Shouldn't be more than a couple hundred bucks in paint for the whole boat. Cheers for watching!!
@esin741

What paint did you use
@FishnFun
@FishnFun 4 года назад
Hey Mate, We started off using aluminium etch primer which is the grey coat you can see at the start of the video. Two Coats of that over the entire outside of the hull, then we moved on to white aluminium paint and applied 3 coats to the entire outside hull. To finish it off, we gave it two coats of red aluminium paint on the areas we wanted red. All paint was applied by a roller. The end result looked pretty good I recon. Cheers for watching.

@oskarstewart825
@oskarstewart825 3 года назад
How much was the paint
@FishnFun
@FishnFun 3 года назад
From Memory in total with primer and paint was probably around $150. But thats for top- quality marine grade paint. You could do it for around $50 using cheaper paints, but it wouldn't last as long. Hope this helps!!
