That color scheme is really cool. I was thinking about painting an hydra with a Purple-Blue scheme... now I have some second thoughts.
@HobbyNight
@HobbyNight 3 года назад
Oh that's such a hard choice! I've painted some purple / blue (+green) schemes before and adore the look! And for a hydra it would look soooooooo great because I tend to think aquatic colors when I think of a Hydra. shoot I see the argument for both. Clearly this means you should just paint 2, one in each scheme! 😆

@@HobbyNight Hahahaha I was thinking about getting a second one just to have both colors. You make this choice so hard... Should I Thank you? XD

That's flippin' Gorgeous! Heck that's a put on the table as a display piece right there. Love how the paint effects add to the dynamic look! I could build an entire dungeon encounter around the summoning of this snake!

@@HobbyNight Upon further review. As much as I like it, I think the spell effect of it doesn't work with my game. Don't get me wrong, you knocked it out of the park. Gaslands doesn't have any spell casting in it LOL. So that kind of knocked it out of the running. The head and the body just below the head are very right for it, but once you get into the spell effect potion of the snake (where just the back is formed) is what kinda knocks it out of the running. But I think I found a good replacement. I'll shoot you a pick soon.

Hmm, this gave me ideas as to how to paint some of the big dragon miniatures (?) I have sitting in my drawer from Nolzur's...laying down a dark blue/purple for a red dragon and then dry brushing up from there. I likes dis idea! *in demon voice* "NO. STEP. ON. SNEK."

The dry brushing really works nice here. Could add even more highlights on top. But what would sell it more would be some pupils. :)

Nice. The eyes need to have a slit pupil though solid yellow just needs that little bit more to make the eyes pop. Did you think of going even lighter and doing stripes down the snakes body.
@HobbyNight
@HobbyNight 3 года назад
It could certainly be pushed more if you wanted a bit more of a golden hue, but I was wanting to maintain as much of the reds and purple over anything else as they are two of my favorite colors.

Snakes, why did it have to be snakes.... Great model Angela ! I Dry brushing is clearly a skill I need to work on, seeing how great a result it can make on a model ! scales realy want to get dry brushed. what about the eyes, there are pupils missing, are u afraid of painting them?
@HobbyNight

Its supposed to be a spell effect so I went with a simple glow effect. If I were to add in snake like pupils I would do it with a technical pen and not a brush!

I'm curious have you ever tried to just throw sawdust in some paint of course you might not have a lot of sawdust but I'm a woodworker so I do :-)
@HobbyNight
@HobbyNight 3 года назад
As an alternative to using a texture paint for ground? I have not, but I have seen plenty of terrain makers doing that. I tend to avoid flocking materials of any kind because they can get messy. I'd rather clean up paint than fibers or sand.
@MichaelKloepfer68
@MichaelKloepfer68 3 года назад
@@HobbyNight as I'm thinking you probably don't have a ton of fine sawdust laying around like I do but I think it would work pretty well and if you use acrylics it shouldn't really be harder to clean than just the pain itself just a little lumpier maybe
@MichaelKloepfer68
@MichaelKloepfer68 3 года назад
I always use acrylics because of my oil paint oh my God it's just stinky and hard to get rid of my father loves oil paint ick
@HobbyNight
@HobbyNight 3 года назад
At some point when I have an actual house and not just an apartment, I will likely try that, because I have heard that it works well. But as it stand, I don't have access to it like you said and the mess thing still concerns me (I'm a bit of a clutz). I have never been a huge fan or oil painting but then again I've never used them on miniatures before. I hear it's all the rage right now in parts of the community.

nice, reminds me of my Razormouth video. Here's a cool thing I discovered, for large eyes on minis like your viper... use a drop of clear UV resin (GSW) on each eye after painting. It dries shiny and makes the eyes look real. Did this on my Owlbear and it rocks.
