I love how you're deep diving into painting 40k. I know the game has been in a rough place this edition. But the world is fun and the minis are fun to work on. Here's hoping for a successful 10th edition!
Looking good Juan. Whenever I am panel lining, especially with oils based paints, I will go with a full gloss coat before panel line/ pin-wash. The gloss creates a much smoother surface tension, pulling the lining medium deeper into the recesses and leaves much less surface cleanup after. A couple coats of matte afterward and the model dulls right back down again!
This looks fantastic. Its nice to see alternate techniques applied while paying attention to matching the work on other models in the army. I'd really like to see more videos in this series, but please do a wrap-up feature of all the models in the army together, when you are finished. Thanks for all your hard work.
Turns out Xpress Color looks great sprayed through an airbrush. Some people are gonna do some cool stuff with these colours. They're an excellent addition to many a painter's toolkit. They're not really available at my local hobby stores yet, but I'm excited to get my hands on them.
Good to see some fellow appreciation for how beautifully smooth Tamiya paints go on with an airbrush! Btw, some Vallejo Airbrush Thinner mixed in would let you airbrush Zandri Dust fairly well. Btw absolutely badass tank!!

I've been wanting to do this exact scheme for my new Catachan army but have been struggling with getting the colors to look right. This looks perfect, gonna order some paints and give it a go!
Man, I absolutely LOVE the green. It's so vibrant, yet still camo. Crazy how you pulled that off. I'd probably go for the Sons of Horus green for infantry instead of the zandri dust to keep the squad dark and make it blend in better with the vehicle colors, though. Anyway, it's hands down the best scheme I've seen for Cadians, period. But there's definitely something missing: A Death Korps of Krieg squad in that color scheme with the colors you used for the vehicles! Please please please make a video for that! Onwards to 100K, King of Contrast! Keep crushing!
I'm loving the look at xpress paints, I picked up two myself to see how well I like them and I'm so far very impressed. I even tried mixing them with Citadel contrast, wasn't sure how they'd work but they did very well together I think your Imperial guard should be backed up by some Kaserkin if you get the chance to grab some. But as a quick synergy they were done likes this: Leadbelcher Dark Tone Agrax Earthshade Natural Umber pigment from Vallejo mixed with Vallejo Airbrush Thinner as a wash Using a q-tip soaked in airbrush thinner I clean the raised parts a bit when it's dry

Juan wonderful vid. i have a question about lacquers. I play a lot of boardgames and minis often have hard plastic coloured rings that you snap onto the bases to identify factions etc They come with almost every CMON game. these rings scratch paint from the base rims. would a black lacquer paint or lacquer clearcoat be much stronger than acrylic?
Nice tank man. I have been approaching my current project with a very similar process, but have been using green oil filters over the airbrushed zenith instead. I then take a brush damped with thinner and dab away some of the filter to create stronger highlights on the most prominent volumes. I like the results i get but have struggled a bit to get it to look consistent enough from unit to unit and so I sometimes have to reapply and re-remove the filter a couple times until it matches previous results. It is also a slow process because I have to varnish the airbrush layers (if I don't do this then I won't be able to fully remove the oil staining from desired sections), wait for the varnish to cure, apply and wait for oils to dry and then wait for another layer of varnish to dry before I can proceed with additional oil weathering. Do you think that this reductive method would work if substituted the oil filter for a contrast style paint that reactivates with water? If that works then it would save alot of time because I could skip the layers of varnish and the oil curing time.
Mmmmmm, Good question, this might sound nuts but have you considered using watercolors instead? Maybe those good quality ones that come in a tube. Watercolours are always reactive to water so even if I haven't done it yet, the process makes sense. You will of course have to varnish with an airbrush over them afterwards

To seal off the Xpress layer so it doesn't rub off while handling the model, plus decals go on better with satin varnish underneath. I still did a crappy job with them though
Mr Color Leveling Thinner is literally unicorn tears. What it does to Tamiya or lacquer paints is infuse them with a smoothness that is not found in nature.
