Very good video. could you be kind to say what kind of brushes you used? tanks
@allendixon
@allendixon 5 месяцев назад
I mostly use very cheap ones. The reason is I prefer them because the can create a lot of interesting textures...just get cheap brushes and don't take good care of them.

Questions - looks like paper…is this a canvas board. Why do you tape it? I love your work and palette, for me, a perfect old master’s approach. I’m from Canada - your accent catches me at times - horizon sounds like “ho-raisin” 😅

a lot of the times I only use my imagination that has been influenced by a lot of refferences, for example this painting is from a myriad of different photo. It is extra fine cotton canvas pinned to a cork board.

Beautiful demonstration,! I loved it. I just want to know how much turpentine and how much Liquin you mix to dilute the paints. Thank you so much! Also can you tell me which brushes you use. Kind regards
@allendixon
@allendixon 9 месяцев назад
The brushes I use are very cheap rounds, flats etc. It doesn't matter too much to me because in landscapes I am looking to keep the abstract and the brushes get mightily abused. As for liquin and spirits, I normally start with spirits first and lean into the liquin as I progress. I think that on is more of watching a demonstration along with experience. I hope that helps.

Thank you for making this. Beautiful art. Excellent tutorial. I think it would be better, however, with the music limited to the beginning and end of the video. You speak softly and the music is as loud as your voice so it interferes with the clarity of your instruction.

Excellent How do you prepare this for framing?
@allendixon
@allendixon 11 месяцев назад
I have slightly cut the canvas a bit oversized. For example a 10x 8 canvas is cut at roughly 10.2x8.2. I then glue this to a 10x8 board, and the slight overcut allows me to position it properly. I use to glue them to an MDF board but recently I have been gluing them directly to a canvas board. Yes I'm gluing canvas onto a canvas board, because, well they are designed to be archival and not to warp. It's an experiment and so far it's going ok.

Hi! I was wondering if you could tell me where you buy your paints from? Please😊
@allendixon
@allendixon 11 месяцев назад
About 80% of my paints are nothing special, you can buy them anywhere and they are used for the underpainting. The finish paints are normally Windsor and Newton and I buy them from Jacksons Art Supplies.

Composition is looking a bit dubious so far
@tabula123456
@tabula123456 10 месяцев назад
I think this looks beautiful. Not everything has to be compositionally perfect. Nature is random after all. I remember years ago when Dennis Sheehan had his videos on RU-vid, (He's a huge modern tonalist master) he said "although composition is important it's not as important as it feeling and looking good to the eye of the beholder." And I have to say in this case I agree. I think this is beautiful. It's so warm and comforting and the way the tree takes centre stage is mesmerising to me. I would love to have the insight to do this type of painting. It takes balls to break the rules.
