This week we caulked, painted, & partially stained the exterior of the floating cabin we're renovating. We wanted to go bold and have fun with our color choices for this houseboat, but did we go too bold? Remodeling might give us a blank canvas to be creative with, but we still need to make this floating house somewhat broadly appealing if we want to sell it. Despite our doubts, we forged on with our vision and are interested to see if it will indeed all come together in the end like we expect it to. Doubt and uncertainty about the finished project are all a part of the reno journey though, & we're gonna keep on keeping on!

I'm wondering the same thing. It sounds vaguely familiar, but I don't know if it's this song I've actually heard or a song that sounds similar. When my dad was alive, we'd visit family down in Kentucky and they would all sing music like this. Hearing the song in this video had memories of my childhood flooding back to me. 🎶🪕🎻

The staining of the bottom boards and painting the metal bits made all the difference. It looks good and I'm sure you guys will have zero problems turning it or whatever you decide to do with it.

The color is not bad at all. I think everything will blend in well in the end. I think the paint colors look like a seaport style. I don't think it looks bad. I like the cottage style like your first house. That was a cool house, but a little bit undersized. I am eager to see the finished product inside the house! I am sure the house will be nice for sale! I'm from Arizona and it would be a nice getaway house!

It looks fine :) There is only one thing I hate more than painting.......that's re-painting, so I have really learned to let it grow on me. My pepto pink and mauve kitchen looks awesome now..hahaha.

I think it will blend in well. Once you paint the posts and beams, I think the house will stand out. Living on the lake, I think the colors suit with the nature. I'm excited to see the inside finishing touch-up.

All of the surroundings are blue, except the trees in the summer which are green of course. We chose blue hues for that very reason, to emphasize & compliment the natural surrounding colors 💙🌊

We love our house 🤍 we designed & built it for our exact needs, it’s a dream! We haven’t even been a full year in it. Not ready to move out haha. There will always be other houses out there if we ever need to expand.

Looks great guys! When you first clicked to sanding the band board I thought you better use string so didn’t drop into the water. We use to tie off our drills when working 40’-50’ off ground so our drills didn’t smash into a thousand pieces. It only took one drill sacrifice to figure that out.

Hahah yesss. It’s def taken us more than 1 dropped tool, but luckily we’ve never dropped an electric tool ($$$), just hammers and screwdrivers and such haha. Definitely don’t want to drop our nice battery powered ones, so string it is! 🙌

The cottage is looking good. As you get a chance to stain more of the float edges and decks and also the posts , you will see how things will pop. I suspect, you are going to encase a few of the posts before staining . That too will change the look.. The roof color will also add to things. If you do another make over I might suggest real wood siding and a stain of choice. I aways found applying stain and further coats to be easier than paint . I would like to know more on some of your costs and pricing . If I recall, you are allowed to add more floats to the footprint to increase outside living space. ( 3/4 of the year, the place to be ) All the best, Hal

Yep we will beef up the columns, can’t wait for that! The LP smart siding is a real wood/engineered wood mix, but we’ve found painting is far less maintenance on the water than staining. Any stained wood needs to be re-stained at least yearly, even more often for lighter stains, to prevent mold and rot. Painted exteriors seem to be fine for years before they need re-painted, and that’s only for aesthetic reasons (fading) rather than structural (rot). Yes you’re right we can add up to 400sqft of dock space outside the house in total, this house doesn’t have 400 so we will definitely be adding docks to max that out! 🙌

These don’t get “listed” per se like traditional real estate, it’ll just be a deal between us and the buyer! We’ve had a number of folks interested but haven’t started offering walk-thru’s yet as it hasn’t been close enough to finished. Probably will start those here in a month or so!
