Painting our Stained Mobile Home Ceilings (FINALLY!)

We used about 6 foot extension poles on our rollers when we painted our ceilings. You do not hold your heads up anywhere as much as the roller is further out from you. We used 2 coats of stainblocker as we have popcorn ceilings and the material sucks the paint into itself and is not quite white enough nor fully "sealed. yet. A local painter recommended 2 coats because of those factors. When you make that first roller pass, its instantly amazing just how far off from "white" your already supposedly once upon a time white ceiling was.

Just so you know for the future , the only primer that will get rid of interior stains of all kinds is an oil base quick dry primer.( Cover Stain by Zinsser will do) , it's at most big box lumber outlets. Never believe the promises of latex based primers, they are only good as second coat primers over oil base primer or for no stain bonders for walls and ceilings. The oil base is almost unbarable to breath but one shot, stain over. Wear a respirator with charcoal filters. I'm old school painting contrator 40 years. Not a criticism just a friendly prod.

Ya'll are so inspiring! You have motivated me to get a few of the little things done around my house that I have been putting off. I have repainted my vent covers in my ceiling and put them back in place, replaced both of my ceiling light/moisture exhaust fans in my bathrooms, repainted my master bathroom, chose new flooring to be put in throughout my house and have started building the lattice shade panels for both of my patios. I love porches on the front of homes, but my house has a small 4'x4' inset porch at my front door. I am almost finished with the design for a pergola style porch with a brick floor all the way across the front of my house. I live in a brick, ranch style home which is 2400 sq. ft. All of my children are grown and my husband passed away five years ago. My home has needed refreshed for several years. I have lived in this home for 30 years and I am finally making the changes I have always wanted. Thanks for motivating with all your hard work! My cement driveway is double wide and will fit four cars. It is cracked and broken in several places, but cement work is expensive. The driveway will have to wait until next summer. I will have a new walkway poured to the new pergola porch at the same time.

On my last home in Decatur IN, I had some water stains in a ceiling, due to plumber breaking a water line, I used the same primer that you used. But the primer was oil based. I started with the primer you used went over area many times and water based did not block stain as they kept bleeding through oil based primer cut it. I then put 2 coats of ceiling paint on. yeah I did this to get my former home ready to sell. seems I get more motivated to do fix up stuff when I an selling. if you can't find anyone to buy the chickens and the new owner doesn't want them check the local 4-H group. I pet there are some kids that show poultry that would love the chance at some nice birds. I know my kids would have loved it.

The paint looks crisp, very nice. Suggestion for the stone. Price for loose stone delivery vs bags. Loose can be delivered on a rolling drop/spread. Less work on your back and vehicle. Better to get a little to much thru delivery as the rock settles and sinks. Next you might want to see if anyone is interested in chicken sitting for free until you resettle, you never know.

so glad you did the ceilings !! Yay ! you guys will notice how much brighter it is inside. i have painted a couple of our ceilings high gloss white to super brighten rooms without having a ton of lights on and it works wonders! great job.

There used to be 4H groups in Monroe IN at Adams central School in Monroe. wonder if contacting the school could get the chickens a new home. it is a country school and the 4H fair is held there at AC every year.

When you mentioned that you were finished painting I thought "oh no! It will never rain in Indiana again!" Lol. Really, the place looks great! Just one little thing you may not have noticed. The main gate by where you are placing the rocks, the top of the gate has a small amount of rust. Is there a paint that you can spray on that just to cover it? Please don't be offended, I know you have worked really, really hard! I can't wait to see what you do next 🤩🤩🤩

My wife and I have done 3 or 4 houses to fix up to live in or sell. You two sure get along good. My wife is bossy and tells me what to do and then we argue. Top Class job as usual. I hate ceilings too, a little less since l started using the jumbo rollers stuck on a long brush handle. The roller has the job done super quick and the long handled, handle makes it easier on your neck. Just mentioning in case you find yourself painting several at one time again, or not and you just want to make it easier on yourself for the one ceiling. Nice to catch up with you guys. 🤗

This idea may help in the future. I learned this from Jamirayvintage.com She uses Zinsser Bulls Eye Shellac for all her stains. She just sprays the area let's it dry then paints it. No bleed through. Next, you just amaze me at all you take on. Blessings

For stains, you can use lacquer on them first, allow to dry thoroughly, then paint over.

Normally you paint the ceilings first so that all your other work below it covers any mistakes in case you have drips, etc. Killz normally is very good at getting nasty water stains. You guys might still be experiencing a leak. The finished ceiling looks great. You must love how much light is thrown around. It looks good!

Mobile home I lived in from 2005 to 2011 needed ceilings painted - horrendous job - had to paint strips between panels with a brush, then the panels with a roller - arms were SO tired when we were done. Really hard work but so worth it - the ceiling looked like new.

That bullseye is amazing. I have used it to prime vinyl wallpaper, laminate, formica counters, ceilings. Its some heavy duty stuff

your place looks awesome, if you guys hang your chicken feeder by a rope the chickens wont be able to get in it and scratch the food out all over the ground. I did that for mine and saved a bunch on food, I also hung the water container.

It is looking great I would bleach the concrete by the front door( downspout area looks dark) and put up hand rails/ paint the steps that would make a world of difference. As a first impression. When a new buyer comes for the first time to see the property. Would make a world of difference

As long as you move somewhere within a day or so of driving I don't know why you wouldn't take them with you? Make a quick and dirty temporary coop for them at the new place, stuff them in cat carriers or cardboard boxes for the trip, and voila! Remember, many MANY chickens live in cages too small to turn around in for their entire lives. A cardboard box like a banker's file box is plenty of room for a day or two of travel. Or you could 'loan' them to the new owners so they can see if they like chickens. Then you build a proper coop and such at the new place, then retrieve your chickens. If the new owners decide they liked them, you can tell them how to get their own. If not, maybe help them take out the coop from inside the barn as a thank you for taking care of the chicks? I just hate the thought of you losing them after so much work GETTING them!!

Good job and you did it yourselves. For serious ceiling stains I spray on some varnish to really seal it to prevent the Kilz from being absorbed into the ceiling material and below the stain surface.:Let it dry overnight then your sealer will do it’s job. The blue painters masking tape is much easier to apply and remove. Way to go.

It does look really sharp and clean now. Great work! And I would never accuse you of stalling. You have had so much to get done, don't blame you saving the least enjoyable job for almost last. That last clip of Maverick was so funny, he is such an animated little guy.

Those are smoker ceilings. Bet it smells better as well.

To keep from getting the poison ivy take a vinegar bath as soon as you get done working works everytime for me and I’m highly allergic!

If you hang your chicken food from a hook and some sealant in the hook hole so you don't get water in , you won't get as much wasted food from the chickens scratching as they can't do it if the food hopper is suspended , it only needs to be up about 3 inches or so , but it will stop them ( and save food ) ~ your welcome LOL

Looking good! One thing I see that I would do is add a handrail to the steps and landing. They make them to match the ready made steps you have. Hope it sells quick!

The ceilings turned out great! In our last mobile home we had the same type of ceilings and the painting made the bands (the thin strips) contract and pull away from the other panels. I think it was because we had really cheap paint and didn't prime them first.

Kilz orginal primer is a tried and true for water stains. It's great for so many things but that's one of it's first uses, if you don't want to use Kilz as your primer you can use it on stained areas and you're good to go with usually one coat coverage of the stain. Just a tip I've been using since 1994 and still works better than anything I find today, but only Kilz orginal, be careful not to accidentally get another version for stains, tried them and never again. I guess I'm an almost old painting veteran ;)

You guys are doing a great job. It's hard to keep motivated when you won't be there to benefit personally from your improvements and the work may not add actual hard $$$$ to the sale price but it will certainly appeal to buyers and help with the sale. You have taken all or any doubt as to what they are buying as everything is in place working and looking smart including the chicks (you can't leave them, surely).

1" 2 " 3 plus is what I used in my home it's was great covering up old water markes from the old roof. I think your flooring will look look great you picked as long as the kitchen roof is white. It will help to brighten up the house too.
