My parents owned a paint store for decades, and I remember the primer as BIN (not B-I-N) Primer/Sealer. This must have been before Zinsser was involved. I only used it once when I was in college to paint over a terrifying clown my first roommate had painted on the inside of our door. I have a dresser I want to paint, but it has a high-gloss veneer top. Unfortunately, my parents passed away ~ 25 years ago, so I can’t ask them. I LOVE your refinished dresser. It’s a work of art!
This is exactly what I was looking for to paint a piece with PLASTIC wood base! So, I'm sure sanding won't work but I'll put the Dixie Bell Slick Stick to the test! Love the Conch color. Your tutorials are so precise and not long. Good job!
hello my friend..nice to see you here! 🤗The Slick Stick will work great. You just have to give it time to cure overnight, check, and the put another coat on, wait and check. Nothing should come off when you do the scratch test! :)
I truly love this color, it really made that piece look completely different. The hardware was also so out of the box and they went perfectly at least in my opinion. I also just want to tell you thank you for all these amazing ideas plus of course showing me this primer. I actually used to just use the spray and it would constantly bleed until you introduced me to B.I.N...thanks again for sharing and your knowledge and I look forward to the next 🙂
Awesome piece! Love it. & the memory of the conch shell really hit home... I have the same memories... now I'm wondering if my mom still has that shell 🤣🤣🤣
This was very helpful I don't have a sanding machine. What kind of grit sandpaper strength when doing it by hand do I use for a high gloss dresser furniture or from doing it by hand? Thanks liz
Excellent video, as usual! That color and those drawer pulls are magic! One complaint: I would have loved to see a photo of the whole piece, legs included, at the end. You stopped short of showing the legs and I felt cheated. LOL. But oh, is that piece gorgeous!
You probably need a combo filter for your respirator of organic vapor/HEPA instead of HEPA only. That’s a great filter for particles when sanding but may not be sufficient for painting vapors. Just a suggestion. It mainly depends on the paint being used. Refer to safety data sheets. Thanks for the video.
Super tutorial. Love your clear instructions. Can I ask where do you paint your pieces? I'm just starting and painting in my garage..not ideal but any tips on what to use behind items when spray painting so the paint doesn't go everywhere?
My entire basement has been turned into my painting studio so thankfully I don't have to worry about paint on the walls or floor. But you can buy painter's plastic at Home Depot or even the dollar store. Super easy to hang or spread across your garage floor. :)
The Silk All In One Mineral Paint I used is self-leveling and looks GORGEOUS when using a paintbrush as well... so you don't need a sprayer to get this look. :)
