The people of Kashmir wanted to accede to Pakistan. And they had every right to as they were majority Muslim. They did not want dograh rule, and when they saw the rajah hesitating, they rose in revolt. The rajah asked for help from nehru, who along with mountbatten was already planning to take Kashmir, hence the accession of Muslim majority districts in East Punjab to india, which had the only land route to Kashmir at the time. India would never have let Kashmir stay independent as the maharajah was dreaming.

My grandfather knew him, this uncle was a good man but he is saying a lot of wrong things here. First of all, the Maharaja was hated by the majority Muslim Kashmiris because he pushed laws that alienated Muslims in their own lands, he allowed Hindus and Sikhs to keep firearms but banned Muslims from holding any hence wanting Muslims to be powerless in a state that consisted of majority Muslims. Also Maharaja was always pro India and would have eventually ceded to India in the long run even if Pakistan did not take action, that's why he was quick to replace his PM Ram Chandra Kak with an Indian named Ghansar Singh. He had already started to fill his cabinet with Indians so it was only a matter of time he would cede to India voluntarily. Also this uncle is wrong about Nuclear weapons as well, just because you have a nuke doesn't mean it's meant to use in an offensive, nukes are a deterrent to a war so that a powerful nation can't bully a weaker nation with invasion. Nukes are meant to safeguard a weaker nation's sovereignty against potential wars. Ukraine gave up it's nukes and look what happened to them. So Pakistan without a shadow of a doubt has to have nuclear weapons to protect and defend itself considering the neighborhood it's in.

Guys telling the truth but 1965 and 47 In 65 defended our major cities and halted the main offensive and then India proposed cease fire , we invaded the Kashmir side which is not considered as an act of war because of the disputed terriotary.. In 47 there was a skirmish resulted because of the confusion of the new boundary India also proposed cease fire .. 1971 we never should have attacked Indian bases thus we started it and yes we lost Kargil also we invaded through fences and w r seen as an aggressor My facts are accurate and u can even search bout it but if u respond from an Indian source then i don't know,,, Man U dumb !
