Read again the Qur'an. It's if you FEAR to be unfair, then marry one. Allah didn't ordered the husband to be fair between wives, he ordered to marry one if he FEARS to be unfair between them. As long as you think you will be fair, it's fine to marry up to four. Allah also never spoke of any punishment for the husband who is unfair, and there is no hadith about an unfair husband being punished by Muhammad. This shows that if you happen to be unfair, it's really not a big deal anyway, at least it's not something comparable to stealing for example, a case where Allah clearly speaks about a punishment and confirmed by many hadiths.

I see it from a different prospective. Polygamy in a broad prospective saves women rights. As the number of females increases and way more than men due to many reasons. Each woman can have marriage and kids through a proper way. While if every man marries one woman, then the rest of females would either remain virgin for the rest of her life or become a “public property” for other men (adultery). Anyways in the Quran which is the holy book of Islam its permissible to marry up to four wives but in one condition which is fairness in everything. Actually polygamy was not introduce in Islam. Before Islam came, polygamy was already a norm. Islam came and does not forbid it but restricted the number to four and give conditions (being fair, being financially responsible) and encourage the men at the end to Stick only with one wife of he fears to able to meet the condition

You don't need her permission or her family's permission...you are free to marry up to 4 if you are able to be fair and able to spend on them.

However, in serial monogamy, where powerful men marry women during their 'prime years' one after the other (Clint Eastwood, Donald Trump, James Cameron, Nicholas Cage etc.) the sociological outcome is actually the exact same. So I don't see how or why Islamic or Mormon polygamy is 'wrong' when the sociological outcome is no different to that of serial monogamy.

Btw, yours was a false equivalence, in cases of polygamy, all the women will not be able to marry other men throughout the lifetime of their husband. In case of "serial monogamy" as you called it, the women are free to marry other men after the divorce. In a community where polygamy is encouraged there will always be significantly less unmarried women than unmarried men.

She can divorce the husband if so. There are many reasons for polygamy, having children is just one. Men are traditionally the breadwinner and provide for the family. When they can marry more than one, they can care for more women (including widows, divorcees, freeing slaves). Men are also more likely die in wars (or other dangerous jobs they take on), which can make female to male ratio non symmetric. And when it comes to the women, their biology doesn't support it. Carrying a child for 9 months takes time (compared to insemination). Before paternity test, it would also be difficult to know whose baby it is. We got lower libidos, making it hard to please up to 4 husbands. And at last, we are more prone to stress because of higher levels of neurotisism. It would be hard to deal with 2 husbands, each demanding their time. It's hard for men as well, but they are better at handling it. Practically, it doesn't make a whole lot of sense for women to have more than one. Because Islam is meant for all times and all places, it allows polygamy, but not polyandry. But do keep in mind, that mongomous relationships are the ideal and that polygamy is a huge responsibility for the man. There are a whole lot of requirements and he will stand before God for treating the wives differently (meaning he can't jusy get a second or third wife cause he is tired of the wife he has)

There are still places of today, that benefit from polygamy (because of the above mentioned reasons). Some men also can't stay loyal to one wife. That's why you see cheating and serial monogomists in the west. And I'd want to be informed by the time of marriage contract, not after.

You can't just get another wife for sexual purposes, you have to provide all her necessities. The wives should have seperate homes, yet everything should be given equally. If you take one wife on vacation, you have to take the other as well. If you buy a pizza for one wife, you got to buy for the other. It is much easier to be content with one wife and far less risky on the day of judgment (where you'll be judged for treating them any differently or mistreating any of them). You can't just get a second wife you vacation with, while the first wife acts as your babysitter and housewife. There should be equal love. And if you have a favorite, you can't do anything to express or show that. As said, huge responsibility. It is not for every man
