What questions do you have about Palia? I'd love to hear them and share my excitement and curiosity with some of you! If you're interested in signing up to have a chance at playing the pre-alpha, don't forget to do so at Palia.com!
All we know is that they're doing a closed pre-alpha this summer. That's all they've shared. They make it sound like it's close-ish to being done though, but I'm not sure.
Will there be an option to play the game offline and solo? I'd love to get this on my switch, but I don't use my switch often enough to pay for the online play subscription.
The first survey on their website is one of two surveys you must fill out in order to have a chance of getting in the pre-alpha. You have to join the discord for the second survey. There are no emails sent if you get a slot. All communication is through the discord.
I concur. This game sounds like a dream come true. :D EDIT: I just found out that the devs managed to raise 16.5 million dollars in 2019 to fund this game. Quite a nice sum to work with.
i hope this ends up being like My game that i can get cozy in for years to come. the ones ive had like that up to now have all been kinda to very competitive and that always was the biggest flaw.. im so excited to try this
This is literally my dream game!!! I hope they don't push microtransactions on this though :( I'd really prefer a once off payment with options for cosmetic/story dlcs
I'm in the same boat as you, but the amount of money there is in the cosmetics market is insane. League is one of the top grossing games of all time and all it has are cosmetic microtransactions. We'll just have to wait and see!
I don't mind microtransaction if it's pursuing a model similar to the Warframe economy. If you don't play Warframe, you can basically buy premium currency, called platinum, with real money. But you can acquire platinum by trading with other players the rare items you got via playing. And it's in a balance where it's not P2W at all while having a decent amount of players who pay with real money. Some players usually pay to reduce the grind or just cosmetics. And then players who don't pay at all can instead trade to get those. The trading there is very active and there's no shortage of people who you can sell your stuff to or buy off of. If Palia manages to pull off an economy similar to that then I actually think it might make the game even better. But that's just my opinion. I just think that a trading mechanic that depends entirely on the players is awesome for a game like this.
Who hacked my brain?! This is my dream game... but its real! Thank you so much for putting this on my radar. Now i just have to suffer until release (assuming i dont get into the pre alpha).
@@DoctorDDub Some of the artwork showed oxen-type animals on a bridge, and one was being ridden. Mounts of some capacity are almost definite, especially given the speculated size of the world itself. Mounts to the extent of the number in World of Warcraft? 99.99% unlikely.
Haha, they have said they're able to run it on pretty potato specs at the moment. Keep in mind they've got developers from Fortnite and League, both super lightweight games. Fingers crossed thar translates over to Palia!
I just hope more games don't use gtx1060Ti something for *any kind of recommended graphics quality, nowadays even a 2D-esque game would ask for this spec!
Annoying, yes, but it's the way the industry is moving. It'd be like an artist getting the highest quality paints and being asked to use finger paints instead. They have access to the technology - they're going to use it, lol.
@@toshj177 Its worth it to just spend money on a gaming pc or computer. You have it for years and can literally just upgrade your parts as time moves on. This is the new age of gaming...no one wants to sit on a $100 laptop playing solitaire no more. LOL. A HP Pavillion laptop would run this game beautifully they cost around 800$ which is nothing for a nice gaming laptop or if you prefer like me a desktop.
I have such severe social anxiety that even in MMO's I avoid interacting with people. No chat, no guild, no raids, no PVP. I basically spent 10 years on WOW collecting things, like mounts, tmogs, titles. So a game where I can collect skills, outfits, and furnishings, all the while avoiding everyone, and building my dream hermit house sounds like heaven🧡
Haha, I mean, there will be some that no-life this game so hard, it'll be like they basically do live in it :D Please don't let that be you though. Outside is good :D
Awe man I'm really excited for this game. There's a few games you've shown that I really want including sunnyside and coral island. Looking forward to seeing more about them and playing them when they release.
Haha, you're all over these comment sections, aren't you, Emily?! I love it! And haha, yeah, this game looks like something incredibly unique. I'm excited to learn more about it. And I'm glad you're enjoying the games I'm covering! You could say I have a "type", lol.
Ah dude, your excitement and interest in your voice is brilliant. This game is so promising and I really hope it works out well, such an interesting idea for an mmo.
Thank you so much Lexii! I do genuinely enjoy making these videos, and make sure to only cover games I would really enjoy playing. I've passed on covering a few games that some devs have requested I cover because I know I wouldn't be able to get behind them fully. I'm glad you're enjoying and I too hope that Palia is everything we hope it will be AND MORE!!!
This feels a lot like an MMO I used to play as a kid called Free Realms. It got shut down a few years back, but I’d love to play something similar to it once this comes out
Will there be microtransactions and/or will they be just for cosmetics ? After years of playing MMOs, the genre definitely has made me burned out . But, this looks/sounds interesting so far ! Sometimes you have no choice but to solo, so I'm glad that solo players won't be at a disadvantage for the most part ( if I understood correctly). So far the games that I'm looking forward to are : * Coral Island * Paralives * Sunnyside * And now Palia 😍 *I would love to see cross-platform and cross-progression options for these games .* Hopefully they all will have an awesome release and be successful 🥰😍🤩❤❣ Thank you for the awesome videos, as always ! Keep up the awesome work ❣❤
Hey Hannah! They haven't said anything about the pricing structure yet, but my guess would be yes. In a game where cosmetics are such a huge factor, I would guess that there would be microtransactions for cosmetics, but I'm hoping it doesn't extend beyond just cosmetics. And lol, I'll be covering 3 of those 4 on the channel :D Cross-platform is wanted by the Palia devs as well, where possible. Not sure about the rest - it's all still early days for all these games. You're welcome though! I'm glad you've been enjoying!
@@DoctorDDub My apologies, I meant I look forward to the videos for all three games that you will be covering😄. If you want to review the cosmetics, that's cool too 😆.
@@DoctorDDub Because it's not mainstream. Sadly nowadays Devs hardly ever leave the beaten path. And that path includes PvP & highly sexualized content (but of course only the gear for women).
Am excited about this game. Often when I was playing Portia I thought "This would be an amazing MMO!" then I hear about Palia. Not stopped smiling since. Regards pricing I would be happy with a box price and then a cosmetic in-game store. I don't want to see it F2P my experience with that is F2P meaning "Trolls welcome.". With this being a community simulation game trolls would destroy it no matter how robust your system for dealing with them but, if you ban the trolls and they have a box price to get back they will think twice. There is an audience waiting to be tapped. Harvest Moon, Stardew Valley, The Sims, and Portia to name a few. Do us proud Singularity 6. Registered for pre-alpha now crossing everything!
You're probably right about the barrier to entry being a good thing for the trolls out there. I can't argue with that. The pricing question is definitely a big one. But yes, there's definitely a market for a game like this. I haven't really gotten into an MMO since WoW in high school, yet I'm pumped for this. They're clearly doing something right.
This feels a lot like Eco in some areas. Lack of death, working on projects together, ability to master skills and build communities, etc. There's no fantasy element but it might be a good fit for people who are interested in that kind of gameplay!
Thank you for your detailed explanation of what they plan to do with this. I was a beta tester for Landmark and had high hopes before it went the way of the dodo. This has a similar vibe (minus the amazing voxel building). I'm now looking forward to it!
Glad to have you back with a new video, Doc! Thank you so much for showing us Palia. So far all your games that you played or introduced to us have fit my taste 100%, so i'll give it a shot!! (AND YES, SOMEONE SHOULD START SPONSORING YOUR VIDEOS) Best wishes, your Algorithm warrior!
Haha, it's good to be back! Hello again, Ramona :) I'm glad to hear you like Palia! Have you signed up for the pre-alpha? And lol, I'm still small time - gotta have a bit more influence before sponsorships can easily happen. I appreciate you thinking so though!
@@DoctorDDub i was already a bit worried when I noticed you didn't post anything for a while. Glad you're okay! Yes of course, before I even finished the video! That's how much i trust you ;D Well, I hope that you can get some connections with Devs of Alpha-games and they can use you as a platform for recommendation, updates, etc. They would surely benefit from it if you present a game from alpha already until it's released. Imagine the detailed review you can give AND you can be a filter for feedback to the devs. I think you add a lot of value!
gunna play the hell out of this when it drops, this is my jam, the art the community building, having your own land plots, some of which are static in the game is going to be just *chefs kiss*
Haha, you're welcome :) And you bet I did! Minutes after first watching the trailer. I also filled out a separate survey for content creators. I'm hoping that ups my chances but I doubt it, haha.
I also hope theres no microtransactions im okay with dlc expansions stuff like that but not a fan of microtransactions personally i am same as u i would loveeee if it had bunch to explore and maybe secret puzzles? That get u special items similar to breath of the wild and the temples
There are aspects about this that remind me of an old MMO called Free Realms, only for an older crowd and with a better graphics/mechanics. I really like the look of it.
They've said they plan to release it as many places as they can, including mobile, which would include Switch. Right now only PC is 100% confirmed, but I can't see them NOT releasing it on the Switch.
Hearing about all the cosmetics scares me a bit. I get that cosmetic microtransactions are mostly accepted now, but I miss the days when cosmetics were something you worked for an unlocked instead of something to be paid for. These days I'd much rather just pay a monthly subscription, and be able to enjoy the game without having to worry about some cool item, cosmetic, or mount, being locked behind a pay-wall.
Looks beautiful, a friend and I have been wanting a relaxing fun game like this for awhile. Questions: The preview shows a fantasy world, will this have any magic or potion crafting aspects? I saw cute little creatures, will there be taming, or buying of pets? Is there a community market system like most MMO's? Are their different housing systems or will each house look almost the same in their neighborhoods? And finally I would want to know can we set up a neighborhood anywhere or will there be designated plots of land? Looking forward to more information and previews. Thank you :)
I'm personally sceptical of how freely we are able to customize our characters, but aside from this detail, I am very excited for Palia. It honestly sounds like my ideal game, like, an MMO sandbox in a way?? I wonder if weather would affect the environment in anyway, such as puddles and water level increasing when it rains, a lack of rain causing water to evaporate to a certain degree, wind knocking down trees, shaking up things like ornamental charms and such. THAT would make for a neat game I love the artstyle, and architectural style though, so pREtty
That would be really cool! I highly doubt rain will have any effects like that, aside from watering your plants for you. Knocking down trees, while cool, wouldn't really go well with the super chill vibe they're going for, in my opinion.
This makes me incredibly happy almost emotional, because this reminds me Of an MMO i used to play as a kid/young teen. Except significantly better. A more grown up version but still very playable (seemingly) for most ages. This is a game excited to keep on my radar.
@@DoctorDDub haha embarrassingly it was a game called Free Realms. Definitely targeted towards 12-mid teens. The game doesnt exsist anymore though. I think blizzard was some how involved in it. (Could be wrong) it was mainly by sony though.
the rp potential is immaculate, imagine a neighborhood of hippies, just vibing together. Then on the other hand a neighborhood of pure warriors, killing and trying to fight everything that moves
I know - if RP servers exist, I really think I'd enjoy playing on one. Especially with how much of a person's personality is probably going to bleed into the game with how casual it is, if that makes sense.
I like to play WoW and SWTOR simply for the reason that having other people around and doing things makes the world feel more alive. I’m a bit of a loner so I don’t do group content, but seeing other people, even just in passing, adds a quality that you can’t get in a single player game. From that standpoint, this sounds like an awesome game. I hope it does well. Definitely going to check it out. Thanks for the video!
I am so with you on that. It's nice to know that you're not the only one impacting the world. It's a feeling only an MMO can really give you. You are most welcome though :) I hope you enjoyed!
Definitely a game I'd be interested in. Small question: From the way you said it, it seems like you can only cheat on characters but not be polyamorous? I don't expect all dating sims to include polyamory but this is an odd choice imo. Just a nitpick. Looks like a great game so far!
@@anthopanino2255 Well that's the thing. It's weird to me that you can _only_ do it unethically. I would expect ethical non-monogamy before cheating. At least in this sort of game.
I wouldn't. Yeah, from a social aspect, that would make sense, but we're not the ones programing the game. "If player is dating X, have Y react negatively" is WAY easier to code than "If player is dating X and Y, have Z react like this, H like that, and B like that, but if they're also dating Z, then B will react differently, C will react the same..." and so on. It's massively complex, and I know for SunnySide, another game I just covered, that's their primary reason for not having polygamy or polyamory. It's freaking difficult!
Of course! I've seen behind the curtain a bit having covered as many indie games as I have. It's not a perspective that's often considered. You can get much closer to the devs than with AAA teams.
Well this is far from appealing for me, but when I see all the positive comments saying " it's my dream game" I'm so glad that some developer finally done a MMO Triple A which is at the opposite of other MMO. Good on you guys hope you gonna have a great time, you deserve to have a game like that :D
i would honestly love this in a form of an actual mmorpg, so essentially you can either go the fighting and adventuring route or you can go the professions route like blacksmith or cook, i really do think this type of game would be great since it targets essentially 2 demographics
@@DoctorDDub It's a novel from Korea. Adapted into Manhwa (comic). Have a read for a few chapters, you might find the concept interesting. Hope that our technology will advance to that level soon!
this game is gonna be so big considering that they are getting ideas from the most popular and profitable games, especially if they released it for mobiles.
While I've never played an MMO like this, this has always been how I've played MMOs. I was absolutely addicted to things like WoW fishing competitions and WildStar's housing
I didn't know about this game but now I can't stop thinking about it. It sounds like all my favourite games mixed altogether. A dream, truly. Please don't give up on the game devs!! 🙏
I know they've mentioned the possibility of private servers. How those will be handled, I have no idea, if they'll even exist, but that's a potential option - create a private server and don't invite anyone to your server. OR join a discord server, make some online gamer friends, and there ya go, you've now got people to play with :D
This sounds incredible. My only hope is that they add taverns along routes and have some distance between cities or whatnot. It's always been my dream to have a game surrounding the idea of the silk road.
You could sell everything to me and i would buy it. Your voice and the joy how you talk about every detail is just perfect. I have a long afternoon watching your videos today.
Haha, that just brought a smile to my face, just(so)youknow ;) Thank you! I only make content on stuff that I, and thereby hopefully those that watch my videos, would enjoy, so that helps. I hope you have a wonderful afternoon!
@@DoctorDDub gosh i'm a sucker for those puns xD I'm sure many people that don't comment really love your videos! Hopefully your channel will grow and all this hard work you put into videos pays off, like literally ;) (you made a new international fan, I am from Germany, so pls excuse any mistakes)
Hello from Texas (United States), Germany! Happy to make a friend :) Thank you for your kind words and I hope to see you in the comments (or discord if you use that) of future videos!!!
This sounds like several other games that have been scams or were terribly managed... but this one seems like it will actually happen and has big name studios with tons of experience pushing the project... EXCITED!
Sounds like a game with 0 conflict... interesting. And fair warning to everyone who still haven't learned their lesson: DO NOT GET HYPED FOR UNRELEASED GAMES.
This feels like the ideal game man, I’m not really a animal crossing person so imma hope it at least there will be more combat inside soo it doesn’t make it too peaceful.
This sounds like a really cool game to play with friends although I do question the choice of making death near non-existent? What is the point of cooking and stuff if not for hunger or to replenish health? What benefit would it have? What benefit is having a high skill or level in something if it's not to get stronger? How will combat be exciting if the threat is non-existent as well? I fear that will take the immersion and excitement out but I do have hope! I'm glad I found this channel, I've been looking for upcoming games like this and others you've shown and i'm really excited for them!
I share your concerns, but I'm trusting that a team with former Blizzard devs who (I'm assuming) helped work on WoW know a thing or two about making a fun and engaging MMO. Maybe despite there being no "death", you can still get knocked unconscious, which would effectively be the same thing, just with no other consequences than you're out of the fight until someone picks you back up or something. No idea, but I'm excited to learn more! And thank you very much! I'm glad you're enjoying yourself :)
WTF! I just suggested making a similar game to my friends in the programming department hahahahah Its like programmed for me personally. I can't wait! Also, thanks for the video. Listening all of those details from you is really relieving. Good luck with the upcoming content. In addition, if you get a beta key please sell it to meeeeeeeeeee!
Honestly I really like the idea. I used to love playing Ultima Online on heavy custom full-time roleplay servers where some of us were into hunting monsters, exploring dungeons etc others were into having a farm or a profession, and others (like myself) were into thievery and scamming both adventurers and business. I really miss those days and I totally enjoy the idea of mmos having a place for everyone not just raiders and end-game players
@@DoctorDDub Yeah, depending on how much custom they allow for server creation that could be something interesting. Ultima Online didn't had a skill cap but roleplay servers used to put them in order to create "classes" so it was helluva interesting to a point where, in the gold ages of the game, our entire economy was player based with NPCs only selling basic stuff that was inferior to player made stuff and it was incredible, if a blacksmith wanted to make a sword he would need buy the metal from the miners and the grip from the carpenter who had to buy the wood from the lumberjacks... Who had to buy the hatchet from the blacksmiths. It still amazes me how a game from the 90's was so interesting and free in therms of customization and I really hope this one can get us near there
