Scottish Mike Rides Yer Bike is back!! I seen on Facebook that Harley Davidson were inviting people to take a test ride on their Pan America 1200cc "adventure bike". I've been interested in riding the Pan America for a while now, especially having read so many comments by people online saying it was heavy and slow, despite the Harley having more power than both the BMW GS and the Honda Africa Twin while weighing about the same as them.
This is an honest review where i share my opinion. I have in no way been paid by Harley Davidson or any other company or brand mentioned in the video.

Good honest review Mike. Boy is that thing "fugly"! Harley have lost the plot bigtime with their current range......

Modern Harleys do look pretty horrendous. When you go to the dealer it's a sea of black bikes too! Sad times indeed.

I took it out for a test ride its got plenty grunt for sure ,brakes good .Gearbox was like stirring porridge with your feet compared to others .Comfort is there riding ergonomics are as good as any.Top heavy feel to it ,It's different but not for me for the dosh there's way better bikes in my opinion.On return to the dealer (Edinburgh Harley) mentioned the chain was as dry as a desert,reply was .Aye we are used to belts ...hahaha .Get a Scott oiler on it HD Edinburgh or spend two minutes lubing it. Finish is tacky here and there and could be much much better compared to a GS or Africa Twin especially when quoted by HD Edinburgh a 2024 bike is £23,000 + with panniers etc...

I’m of similar height, and I wouldn’t describe it as tall. I loved the brakes, the engine - but for me the handling was odd and slow….. but I felt I had no presence on the road due to it being so low. Fiddled with everything but couldn’t make it work Got back to the dealer and moaned about the height. “Try it on the centre stand” was the retort! FFS Switchgear just a bit odd as you found, but you’d get used to it. I quite liked it’s oddball looks, as in it’s very different Also sensed the vagueness through the cogs

Did you have a lowered one? I found the seat to be about the same height as the GS until it done the sinking thing. I dunno what they've done to give it the weird handling. The geometry looks on average but they do have that big steering damper, what's your thoughts?

Good review, very balanced, I can’t help thinking that it was styled ? By Stevie Wonder.

I've heard there's a lot of reliability issues with these.

I've heard similar and asked the dealers about it. He reckoned most of it was due to Harley supplying the first bikes with insufficient batteries.

It’s a bike I instantly dismissed as NFI. It’s not a looker (unlike other Harley’s), it’s expensive to buy and parts will be too (like other Harley’s). I assumed it will be unrefined, glitchy, unreliable, and a little thirsty. I imagine it’s like every other Harley, it’s a badge and a fashion accessory first and foremost, with refinement to compete in the European market a secondary concern.

I reckon a test ride would really surprise you. It's a very capable bike, all be it with a few quirks. You're right about it being both ugly and very very expensive though and the reliability issues have been widely reported.

@@yodagoat I actually got into bikes about 16/17 years ago, because I used to watch American Chopper on Discovery, and I really wanted to look cool on a Harley myself. Fast forward that journey to the present day, and I have a Honda Monkey instead !😂😎🛵

Ugly enough to scare a bulldog off of a meat truck! lol My guesses are this: Maybe a different tyre choice would make it handle a little better...? The shifter sounds strange. Maybe there's something wrong with this particular unit. It is a test mule, after all. One bad rider can do a lot of damage to an otherwise good moto. And that weird variable ride height. No way I'd ever go for something like that either, being even taller than you, but my real concern wouldn't be the $700 up front cost, but the possibility of an overly complicated system failing in 20 years. My old basic motorcycles run zero risk of fancy electronic failures! lol Great review, Mike!

Apparently it's the quckshifter that causes the spongy feeling when using the clutch. You may be right on the tyres but I think it was more a geometric/wheelbase thing that gave the odd handling. It may have proven to be very stable given a longer run. I'd recommend anyone gives it a go, it's just not for me. Also there's been loads of reliability issues although Harley said that was down to the wrong battery being fitted.

Given up on attempting to swear less then? 😂 Seems like with a few more revisions Harley could get somewhere with it... if they also made the price attractive.

Its a long low sled of a thing. Stable but not flickable..... It's a festival of adjectives: strange, vague, ugly, weird, stable, Merkin suspension....
@yodagoat
@yodagoat 3 месяца назад
It's regular fully adjustable suspension, I just don't know what they've done to make the handling weird. I reckon it's the steering damper is set too stiff, but why would they do that?? Get a shot of one and see what you think.
