Motorcycle travel and adventures in Scotland and beyond. I try and do wee reviews of bikes and kit occasionally as well. I ride a Honda Africa Twin CRF1000, a Honda C90 Cub, a Honda Monkey 125 and a Harley Davidson Fatboy. They're all adventure bikes. #motorcycle #travel #adventure #bikes #motorbike #explore
Another great vid Mike, I'm just making my way through all your others now 😂 ..... true what you say about what's on our doorstep (I'm 5 mins from you). I need to shift my ass and get the bike out. I'll look for the group in your description cos you're making me want to BUY an old and slow 'something' now! 😊
We're pretty lucky around here for what we have! If you search for Small, Old and Slow of Facebook you should find the group if you haven't done already.
"Wild camping" means camping out with a campsite. To do it legally in Scotland we should be out of sight of a road or any other building. When this video was made we could get away with doing it like we done on the bikes but sadly that's now changed due to too many visitors abusing the places.
Those Airhead boxers have always appealed to me, even more so since I read Elspeth Beard's Lone Rider. I've got a Guzzi V50 that I really enjoy riding and I feel like they're probably quite comparable machines. Great vid as always!
I’ve been on a bit of a RU-vid break, but so glad my first video back featured two Monkey’s, a Spitfire, what seemed like 6 houses from Skyfall, and a Scotsman waving a can of Tennents around. Viva !😁👍
Ugly enough to scare a bulldog off of a meat truck! lol My guesses are this: Maybe a different tyre choice would make it handle a little better...? The shifter sounds strange. Maybe there's something wrong with this particular unit. It is a test mule, after all. One bad rider can do a lot of damage to an otherwise good moto. And that weird variable ride height. No way I'd ever go for something like that either, being even taller than you, but my real concern wouldn't be the $700 up front cost, but the possibility of an overly complicated system failing in 20 years. My old basic motorcycles run zero risk of fancy electronic failures! lol Great review, Mike!
Apparently it's the quckshifter that causes the spongy feeling when using the clutch. You may be right on the tyres but I think it was more a geometric/wheelbase thing that gave the odd handling. It may have proven to be very stable given a longer run. I'd recommend anyone gives it a go, it's just not for me. Also there's been loads of reliability issues although Harley said that was down to the wrong battery being fitted.
Nice bikes. You're a lucky man to be out and aboot with your dear auld dad. I'd give a LOT to be able to go for a ride with my dearly departed dad... Say, I think you should plan a trip to Tucson. You could make video reviews of my bikes! I have more than I should, and they seem to be multiplying!
As always, Mike- great video! And of course, each one you put out makes me start jonesin' for another Scotland trip. Now I have another event to try to work into a plan. So far, it's the Northwest 200, The TT, the ABR rally, the Sunart Wildcat Rally, and Simmer Dim. How does that sound for an adventure?
I've just bought an ADV150 (with a stage 1 sounds like yours and with bigger injectors/ air filter goes like stink). You must try one! (160 even better but cant get in NZ). Went through Glencoe in 1978 on a CD175. Pissed with rain and couldnt see anything. Done it a few times since but still never seen the sun.
Sadly we don't have the 150 here in Scotland. You guys get some interesting bikes and have great roads in New Zealand. Glencoe and Rannoch Moor can be pretty wet at times! Usually it's still pretty scenic though.
Another great Yodagoat film, thanks for taking me along Mike. Good to see Mikey and Andreas. You feel you know the guys you see on your films. It's over 40 years since I camped with my brothers in Glen Etive when I thought I'd do all the Munros. Forgot it's so stunning. You've given me ideas for a trip. Agree entirely with your view on the tourists coming up here and not following the rules for driving single track roads. I went to Skye on Monday and was held up for miles by a slow moving car that wouldn't let me past. I'm looking forward to your and Mikey's trip in September. Thanks again Mike.
£15 a night, expensive lol. Here in Northern Ireland it's usually £25 a night, virtually no facilities, nothing to do, nowhere to go and surrounded by cow fields.
That doesn't mean that £15 a night for camping is cheap, it's just that you guys are being ripped off. I think £15 for the Red Squirrel isn't bad, it's a good site but at the top of the campsite scale here price wise. Try a trip to France. Campsites there are pretty good and usually only about £5-£10. Phenomenal scenery too.
Great Craic :) Jeez sooo crowded compared to when I used to scoot aboot up there ! what's this nonsense of folk in T shirts etc on the bike, as an ex theatre nurse, I can tell you that having gravel out of your skin with scrubbing brush and Iodine is NOT to be recommended, THEN there is the skin grafts, they should show this to silly Billy's like that
I was pretty surprised to see the guy riding like that to be honest. I've not seen that before! To be fair to the Red Squirrel that was it full. Back in the day they'd just keep ramming folk in like a festival at busy times.
