I been watching another RU-vid Xrissart use make up brushes with pan pastels. It's wonderful how you and others share your findings on how to use these pan pastels in different ways.

Crikey Jason I've been painting with PanPastels for quite a while now and can't believe I didn't think to do that. This will solve alot of hickups. Will definitely try this trick.

This is GENIUS! I love using pan pastel but hate pastel pencils. This solves my problem completely and I actually ordered Gamsol for my oils just before watching this! Your technique is so unique. Thank you so much for sharing.

***** Be careful though everyone - PLEASE do a test on some scrap paper 1st because this does not work on all papers - some solvents and papers don't mix - CHECK IT OUT :O) as I say in my video :)
7 лет назад
I was thinking if mixing with water would solve the problem with some paper like Pastelmat. The drying time might be longer, but at least the water will not melt the paper, if that's what is happening with some papers.

I'm new to these pan Pastels, and thanks to you, for exposing me to them. I had an idea. Seeing as these pastels are very high in pigment, try mixing with linseed oil, or a painting medium, and see what kind of cool stuff comes from trying that.

Jason Morgan - Wildlife Art If you add a solvent, can you still preserve your work with fixative?

Very useful video I am having a commission to do, about a dog having fine lines black o her coat and I was just wondering to solve this difficult challenge! I am wondering if the Paint-Brush proposed by Alyonna for selling the Prismacolor Première is the same product that you are suggesting! Her products are so expensive, that I am was looking fir a solution! From Québec in Canada 🇨🇦 ❤ TKY for ouïr hard work sharing and your impressive talent!

How does that mixture layer overtop multiple layers of pastel and/or can you use it as a base?

Great video Jason! 😆 I've watched videos of a few pastel artists using water or alcohol to "paint" with pastels and I loved the results. I was under the impression that you could use these techniques with all pastels, so it is very interesting that you said pan pastels don't mix with water. I wonder what that slight difference is...hmmm! I will have to check this out with my Mona Lisa oms & pan pastels. TFS 😃🖒

I need to look at those just to find out more. I have only tried stick pastels and I agree with Lisa, I hate the feel on my hands :)

DeLila Bogart Hi DeLila. 😆 The pan pastels are great! I never cared for the feel of stick pastels as well. I alway wrap them in paper towels...lol. The pan pastels definitely work out much better for this and the colors are great. I invested in all the main sets and I'm glad I did. I hope one of these days I can convince Lisa to try them at least for backgrounds. 😉

I thought so too - but pan pastels just sit in/on the water like dust

Wouldn't rubbing alcohol work since it is used with nupastels? Also the oms rejects another layer a bit unless a fixative is used. There are 99% etoh or higher levels of rubbing alcohol also. I mashed a soft pastel and it worked with alcohol. But repeated layering caused me more difficulty with the oms so I resorted to the organic fixative. Very interesting. I use both likewise since I work with colored pencils, wc , pastels and inks. I will have to check again. This was on Fishers paper. Will let you know. Thanks

This is quite an old video @Jason Morgan so wondering if you still do this? I’m surprised that pastelmat doesn’t like it as I’ve used alcohol with pastels as an underpainting. Can’t believe I haven’t seen this video before. Had pans for a while. Been looking for videos to help old mate at my local art society that’s just started with the pans..
