Pastel Drawing - Learn to draw and paint wildlife with pastel pencils +how to use panpastels
Have you always wanted to do a - pastel drawing - well it is not as difficult as you might think. for "pastel drawing" success you need to get the right supplies - but once you have them then it is much easier than colored pencil as you can draw light over dark.
there is a 3 hour video showing this drawing on my Patreon art channel if you are interested in learning lots more pastel tips and techniques.
in this video I also use pan pastels - they are a very highly pigmented pastel compressed in to a pan for ease of use - and they last a VERY long time - much longer than pastel sticks and it is really suitable for wildlife art too as it is easy to get that soft fur look with panpastels.

Hi! Thank you for advising us on the basic materials you use. I have bought several Panpastels, including your color palette, and skin colors. I bought a basic set of Rembrandt soft pastels, and the Stabilo Carbothello pencils. But I never thought of the Conté sticks. If I had seen this video before, I would have bought the Conté Sticks set, for the details that can be done. Well, maybe later, I can buy them. Thanks for everything you done for us!🥰😊❤

Oh I just loved this, it was very helpful! I draw in pencils then I bought colored pencils to do more colored work, it was hard for me to make it realistic because it can't blend, but i'm moving over to Pastels! I'm so exited! THANK YOU JASON MORGAN.

You’ve sold me. I tried pastels years ago and was so disappointed. Of course, I had the wrong paper, too! Same thing with colored pencils. I have a huge collection and I’ve done quite a few drawings that I love, but took me forever. Next I tried acrylics, and I still enjoy them, but I’ve always admired the richness of oils and pastels. So, I’ve joined your Patreon channel! Very helpful.

Thanks Jason for the tutorial. I have been struggling with which paper to use and settled for sanded paper however, this uses so much pastel product due to the course nature of the paper. I have used pastel mat before and may have to go back to it as I did like the results and used less pastel too. Win, win really.

I love pastel pencils!! Colored pencils frustrated me to no end! I've been using pastel pencils for less than a month and it has brought my artwork to a new level already, I knew I was capable of such results, I only had to find the perfect medium. I have Pastelmat coming this week, but I also like the look of pastels on Ingres paper, different surfaces give different looks. I think Pastelmat will help me with photorealism. I have some pan pastels, some soft sticks, no hard sticks yet but I think it's enough to play with, for now :) Great drawing, and keep sharing the pastels love! :D

Thanks Jason, just getting into pastels, from acrylics, wish I had seen this before purchasing products, bought the FaberCastell pastel pencils 64 set , plus a large set of soft pastels , but bought the me-teintes pastel paper ????? I do animal pictures like yourself, will this pastel paper do the job,? or will I have to purchase the pastel Matt paper?. love your work, and the tutorials are very informative, I have learnt so much from you , thanks .

I tested the me-teintes touch paper, it's OK'ish. But not as good as pastelmat in my opinion. - see my Channel for the paper review etc - ru-vid.com

Hi, I just start to learn drawing pastel like a portrait, animals. I had soft pastel stick, and derwent pastel pencils as notice it is soft too. my problem is I looking for hard pencil kind to highlight, work on multicolor hairs, I need brighten and fine line in details. Can you advice me some? which one have you used in your video? is it a Stabilo Chalk Pastel Colouring Pencils Carbothello tin one? or can I use Faber Castell Pitt Pastel Pencils Colour Tin one? i do realistic wildlife animal art too, I'm advanced with my drawings however I'm curious. do i need to purchase pastel pencils that contain 50+ pencils or is just having the basic 12 set suitable for realistic wildlife sketching normally i only use charcoal but lately I've been interested in pastel but don't have the money to invest in a set of 50 colours like you :)

Do you use any kind of fixative after the image is complete? The one I've been using mutes out the highlights and I was wondering if you found one that you like.

I am so discouraged. I am used to colored pencils and bought my first set of pastel pencils. I swear they are so much harder than colored pencils. I can't seem to get the detail and definition that I do with colored pencils. I was under the impression that getting bright white highlights (and other highlight colors) on top of darks and other tones would be easier and more intense. It's probably user error, but I'm lost. I have no idea where to go from here.

hdb80 it has to be correct paper. Use pastel may. I show very detailed beginner lessons. Tiger. On my patreon channel. Many hours longer than I can show on youtube. 4 dollar level. Plus others. And on RU-vid. www.patreon.com/wildlifeart

Thank you. I'm using Canson Mi Teintes Pastel Pad paper and I must say I do not like it at all. I'll get that pad and then start your tutorials. Thanks for the advice!
