@@erikcasella4826 EVH didn't play a half-acoustic. At least not in the early days when Panama was out. He always used to play his stripy strat, where in interviews he insisted it costed no more then 600 $.
He was already beyond his dad when he joined Van Halen, Eddie knew it and bragged about it. It's just now that we are starting to see the brilliance come to light in his own music. I can say with confidence we haven't seen the best of Wolfgang Van Halen yet.
I'm glad Wolfie is doing his own thing and making his own music. But then he can come out and rip through something like this and tribute his dad like NO ONE else can. Awesomeness
I will never forget when Wolfie was a kid and Eddie announced to the world that Wolfie had rhythm. He was super proud of that fact, almost like he didn't care if Wolfie ever played lead, didn't matter to him, Wolfie had rhythm and THAT is what mattered to Eddie. Of course we all know that all great lead players have great rhythm at their core, and Wolfie has turned out to be one heck of a lead player as well. 🤩
But Wolf refused to take over his dad's spot and play with VH so VH disbanded. He said you can't have VH without his dad. And he refuses to play VH songs in his band. But, he played a few Roth era ones from 1984 at the Taylor Hawkins tribute concert in Sept 2022. Like Panama and Hot for Teacher. That was probably the only time he would play VH songs. I personally don't care for his own music in Mammoth WVH. It's different than VH. More modern 2000's rock like Creed or Nickelback. One of his band members is from Creed, later in Tremonti.
Just found this, I cannot describe how good this makes my 56yo heart feel. I know he has to do his own thing at some point but the fact that I never thought I’d hear that guitar sound again live is wonderful!! RIP Edward, just know you left “it” in good hands!WOW!
Jesus christ man goosebumps wolf sounds more like his pops than anyone could ever imagine!he just has his father's rhythm and lead style every nuance is completely identical its unbelievable!
Forget the DNA connection, for the moment: this kid's guitar teacher was Eddie Van Halen! Why am l still so amazed he can play without looking and it's just no biggie to rip like that?
He plays well for sure. In reality any good professional guitarist can copy a song and play it note for note with the proper tone etc. BUT everyone can’t create and write the music. Eddie did.
He finally did it.......omg........must say i got a bit teary, closed my eyes and it was like Eddie was playing........WOW WOW WOW......Wolfie you are a freakin legend, Eddie would be so proud.
I still don't understand why there has been no tribute show after EVH's passing. But I'll always see Wolfie as a class act... he put his own music out, respectfully made it clear he was NOT standing on his Pop's coattails. Then, at the most appropriate time, absolutely KILLS playing his father's music for a very worthy cause. This truly is a tribute to Edward.
Dave up there on bass...I know what he was thinking, "There's no 'effin way I'm gonna miss out on this jam. This right here my friends IS rock N roll history !!! 🎼🤟
I think all of us are finally starting to understand what we have in Wolfgang Van Halen....WOW...that dude is insane! Would love to meet him! Awesome musician...and an awesome dude!
I saw Wolfie play bass with Tremonti. When he was introduced they asked him to "do that thing" and he played a quick finger tap technique. It was a total tease as it lasted like 4 seconds tops. Total badass player. He is one of the greats. I know that Eddie was and is super proud of his awesome son. Looking forward to everything you do, Wolfgang.
@@EmmyG7 yea cause 100m record and hordes of loyal fans who have named their kids “Eddie, Mike, Alex, and Dave” that they’re a crap band. VH are probably the best American rock band of all time all things told, and the only other guys who are in the convo are the Eagles (also fantastic).
Can’t stop watching this video for the past days.Always coming back to watch Wolfie. Indeed, he shreds like his Pops. Rock on Peace Eddie and Taylor. Legends! 😎
This is what happens when Amazing bands collaborate!❤ I'm so proud of you Wolfgang and lil hawk👏 both of you and your fathers are truly blessed to have had that musical bond. Keep up the amazing work and thank you David for making this happen. 👏 rock on....and on
At the Smithsonian interview, Eddie told EVERYONE that Wolfie had some incredible stuff coming. Who knew at the time that it wasn't just a proud Dad talking about his son? He was right. Wolfie is incredibly talented - he plays several instruments and plays them well. Like Grohl, he played everything on his first album. His band is awesome AND he can play his Dad's stuff. And what a badass name - Wolfgang Van Halen. It fits...perfectly.
*THE WOLFMAN SHOULD LEARNED FROM DAD, AND LEARNED TO BE THE FRONT MAN. TAKE SINGING LESSONS AND GUITAR LESSSONS. WRITING SONGS IS WHERE THE TRUE MONEY IS AT. AS WE HAVE LEARNED OVER THE YEARS. ROCK ON WOLFMAN*
@@robkrasinski6217 My guess is that the name selection was probably purely musical - an homage to Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. Ironically, they both started playing at a high level when they were both young. Mozart wrote his first composition when he was only 5.
@@robkrasinski6217 Their father was dutch and their mother was Indonesian. Their parents faced so much discrimination in Holland as a mixed race couple that they left for America...then faced more discrimination for awhile.
I saw Mammoth on stage in Paris 2 weeks ago. They played almost the whole record; but seeing this, they could have played the entire show with EVH stuff !!! but Wolfgang left some time for Halestorm and AlterBridge, which was also a total BLAST !!!
He makes that guitar sound just like its supposed to in this song. Go Wolfie you are awesome. You were taught by the very very best. This made my jaw drop. Sounds so much like Eddie was playing. Like father like son.
This morning this was the first video I watched and it made me cry.All you guys go man .ROCK THAT SH*T BROTHA!! I’m gonna rock with Ed on the other side and we all will someday .Until then, slam those strings wolfie and Hawk on fam.✌🏻
As an old guy of 63 years young. I feel sad that we are slowly losing our Guitar/Musician of the 60’s-80’s Greats. I’m so blessed to have been apart of those Awesome eras! I wouldn’t change a thing in my life even if I had a chance to do it all over again!
@@datapusher- simple to explain. the floyd rose popularity has a lot to do with eddie van halen (if you’re older than 50 you could see the whole evolution with your own eyes). it’s awesome how wolfgang plays panama and hot for teacher without a fr and you won’t never miss it, he emulates it with his fingers (like phil x, jake e lee and other greats). the sound, the feel… just perfect! why? because he’s a f…ing talent!
Golfgang you play like just your Dad. I would have loved to see those practices that both of you had together. And you play so many other instruments. You are a pleasure to watch and listen to. God bless you and your family.
I was at this show (section 214 row 6) and this performance was so great!!! You were right up front which I'm sure gave the performances a whole different perspective.
Hopefully Alex, Wolfgang, Michael, Dave, & Sammy does a tribute to Eddie concert like this soon while they’re still around! Taylor is probably jamming w/Eddie & other great 🎸s like Hendrix in rock n roll heaven! May they all RIP🤙🏾
