What began as an attempted quick repair on this little Panasonic R-111 transistor radio, is not turning out so quick. Found in the trash, and at first glance, thought it was an old CB Mic., battery case, or something. Instead, it was a small transistor radio. Began just trying to power it up, & bring it alive, solely via. the topside of the board, without disassembly, in hopes, just to hear it play. Made it past the faulty on/off power switch, only to find the radio is still silent. The audio section however, is working. The oscillator appears to be running, when "beat" against another radio. This is becoming more likely due to battery corrosion. The leaky Duracell AA found inside, was dated 1991, so it was working prior to the battery leakage. Suspect more trouble around the IF which runs right alongside the leaked battery cell itself. This radio runs on only one single AA battery. This radio is very tiny, & components are crammed tightly. At this point, disassembly cannot be avoided & is going to be required, if ever to hope to be able to get this to tune stations again. Hopefully, in the future, with a part 2 of this video, that can occur.

Blue Panasonic Carbon Zinc cells or rechargable. There is not a single decent brand name or off brand Alkaline battery I trust my stuff to. I use the blue panasonic CZ batteries. They are dirt cheap and they don't leak.

Battery leaked on circuit board and may have ruined the connections to that IF transformer. You must take the board out of the case to confirm this. It may have eaten the traces around the area in question. This one won't be a real easy fix.

DuraSwell ....yes indeed they use to be quality and would rarely corrode, but that's not the case these days.

Radio Shack alkaline batteries at the end were made by Eveready.

Yes, agreed, & they never leaked. Was odd to see a leaky RS AA. These particular ones mentioned must not been Eveready.
