Bought this 3 years ago. I used it to shoot in the rain. It’s full weather seal. Perfect to used without worry in the rain. Video quality in 1080 full hd is stunning! Only downside is the low light performance, well at this price point we cannot expect too much. Overall it’s a very good camera especially you like to shoot outdoor in the elements.
@@xstrange_potret indeed, weather-sealed. That was the main reason why i bought this camera, to take shots in a dirty, dusty and sometimes rainy outside activities, especially tractor pulling.
Almost 10 years later this camera is still a powerhouse, which frankly baffles me! So I have a new one arriving today so I can see firsthand how a CAD $700 camera can have a 600mm IS tele @ f2.8...it really seems to be a do-it-all-well camera which has not existed on the market for years, so thanks for this detailed review, can't wait to try it out. We had a big pro bike race here in Montreal yesterday, would have loved to have had it!
Thank you, I have watched a lot of RU-vid trying to learn more about my camera. Your voice, pace, explanations and family background noise is second to none. I will be bookmarking this to watch again. Thanks!
I love this camera. Have it. Lightweight, fun to use. Glad I bought it 1 week ago Touchscreen as you said, is super bright in extreme sunny days. Good video
Hey I have seen birds , animals pics with background blurred effect! But not a single background blur effect portraits of humans.. Can u show few human portraits with background blurred clicked by you on Lumix fz300..?
I like mine too! Quality pictures and video. Great camera for many people, newbies and pro's using as a back up. I use mine mainly for references for my oil painting, also love playing with videos but nothing serious.

I bought one last week and took it out for a trial run. The picture quality was nothing special but the 4k was utterly horrific. Not to mention how unnecessarily complicated it was to do things like shift the point of focus, which is rarely something I need anyway. It just looked terrible compared to my gopro10 footage, which has such amazing stabilization u can walk with it and hardly notice any up down movement. Plus it was massive and heavy. I usually use my gear for bike packing. This is way too big. I've decided to go for the Sony zv1 which light years ahead of this relic of the past. Having such a small sensor on such a big camera just doesn't make sense these days. Maybe good for extreme close ups/ wildlife. That's it.
Outstanding review and knowledgeable commentary. I am considering this camera because I am a hiker/backpacker/filmmaker. Thanks for your excellent input, it has really convinced me to go with the FZ300...
Every December, a local model railroad club has an installation in the conservatory at my local botanical garden. Over 10 years, I have used every Olympus 4/3rds lens I own up to a 300-600 equivalent. Last week I did my first shoot with my new FZ-80 and I found out that I used a bunch of focal lengths from 20-415mm (equiv). Once you are free of any limits, you can find out what focal lengths are useful in a particular situation. BTW, outdoors everything I shot was under 120mm except for a large egret size bird which I shot at a little over 500mm equiv.
Got this cam for like 5 Months and loving it! Videos and Photos are really sharp and have awesome Color as well specially i like the 4k Picture mod! When we have Thunderstorms here in Germany i try my best to capture 4k Lightning Pictures. ;)

Thanks for posting. This is exactly the sort of information that me as a beginner is looking for. I'm now looking to move from cheap cameras / point and shoot compact cameras to a bridge camera. The modest price and relatively simple features really attract me to this camera.
This camera would be good for vlogging and RU-vid. Getting the camera where you can change out the lens for desired effect would be good for the field as you said. Thanks for this informative overview.
thanks man nice video thanks for explaining the functioning of the buttons some people like me are new to photography and I dont even know what the buttons are for

What really holds me back from buying this or similar cameras, is the open zoom mechanism. I usually take pictures outside in the nature, and i'm worried about getting dust or anything in it. Old Lumix cameras were a bit shorter in zoom range, but the whole optics were in a closed tube. Much more healthy, in my opinion. Do you know any kind of solutions for such cameras? To keep the moving parts as closed as possible. Or just an other brand which takes this problem differently. Nice review btw, thank you for your work!
György Mohl all bridge cameras like the LUMIX, jvc, canon and Nikon all have the lens going on and out. Never seen one that doesn’t extend unless it’s a expensive, detachable lens.
This camera is said to be water and dustproof which is unique among the bridge cameras. I've seen another review where there was a comparison table displayed which showed that feature.
Excellent and very informative review! I recently got this camera after using the FZ70. So I really a newbie regarding it's features and operation. Your video confirms that I made an excellent choice! :)

Good details on the workings of the camera. From the video and photos you have, I can get the the same quality (probably better) using my iPhone XR. Thanks for the review, your son is very cute with my iPhone XR videos and photos
@@therailrangervmtg8658 Hi! I have yet to use it actually. Also, the battery life will depend on how many photos or video you take so, couldn't really tell you even once I use it. Best of luck to you. :)
Graham Houghton has a few instructional videos on this camera. The first one teaches about how to set it up, everything from how to put the battery in to how to set up the menus.
This is not a camcorder or dadcorder, because the zoom is not moving smoothly enough but it's the best we can get and it's weather-sealed. fz1000 and fz2000 provide better images and video but are not sealed and are bigger
the most important thing in a camera is the viewfinder because is the eye of the photographer and nobody who do reviews tells anything about it, the quality and the size/ range of wath you can see
Great overview of the FZ300. I am a hiker on my 3rd bridge camera. Replacing a Fuji HS 50 EXR (42X 24-1000mm zoom) because the LCD screen broke & costs $200. for Fuji to repair it. The Fuji has such precise composing because the focus/zooming ring is on the lens itself, as if it were a DSLR. How accurate is the composing when using a zoom button? Do you find it frustrating?
Mike Buccola the focus wheel is a fly by wire....so it’s not as precise and fast as a good manual lens. It’s not for run and gun focusing. It works well when you need manual focus on a pinch. I use the autofocus 98% of the time.
Hello Tim. I was wondering if you could comment on how this camera would be for taking video of flying model airplanes. I am interested in taking video of them flying, zooming in to get a close up video as well. I am interested in how well the image stabilization works and how well the auto focus tracking works for something like this. Thanks.
ripper9111 it should work well if your using a tripod. Any camera may struggle trying to track small objects like birds or model planes. If the skies are clear it should work ok since it uses contrast detection for focusing vs phase detections. If it’s a cloudy day contrast focus could struggle. Look into getting a tripod gimbal to help steady your shots as well.
Kathy Hougum it’s called the Panasonic Image App and it’s great for transferring photos right to your phone for on the fly editing and immediate uploading to social media platforms. Thx for the comment. Cheers mate
Hello,I have this camera and I think whether to take some gymbal, maybe you have experience with it,and which gimbal would be the right choice for this weight and size of the camera, every suggestion is welcome, thanks in advance.
I bought this last year and I think I bought a dud. Soft at all focal lengths and so much noise and the jpegs are terrible regardless of the amount of processing used. I have two other bridge cameras and both are much sharper with less noise and they were cheaper too. It's a really great camera feature wise and ergonomically and I'm sure most are great. I read a post on dpreview where some guy had the extract same problems. I just couldn't get a good image from it.
Looking to purchase this....what's the opinion on a 12 megapixel camera in 2021 vs something possibly with more recent technology? Also does it take fast photos, like of kids running around, current problem I have now is my old camera is slow and creates blurry pics of my kids running around when I try to capture the shot...would this camera help eliminate that or should I find something more recent?
Hi, can you tell me how you transfer photos and video to your computer with the supplied USB cable? The only cable I received was an AV/Out USB cable and all it did was transfer BMP files. I don't see a port for micro-USB. All my other cameras transfer just fine and are recognized.
I don’t use a cable. I plug the SD card into my computer. You can purchase an SD plug in that connect to your computer via USB is your computer doesn’t have an SD card built in. Hope this helps
the sensor in the FZ300 is 1/2.3" This is one of the smallest sensors used in mirror-less cameras and is NOT ideal for low light conditions. with that being said...it has excelled in every other category for me. i love the fixed apeture F2.8...so it is a relatively fast lens with decent shallow depth of field. the 600MM zoom gives good reach to practically touch the wildlife. it utilizes 4K burst which i personally used to literally freeze humming birds in flight. the 4K is tack sharp. i heavily use the internal time-lapse all the time. this is by far the BEST consumer camera for the money. it is ideal for a person looking for a good, universal camera for all occasions. thanks for the input on the bulb. i would not personally use this for astro photography or night time-lapse...just not the best sensor for those occasions.
Would you suggest this camera for concert photography? I can't take my dslr with me this time so I was looking for a cheap alternative, even if I'll have to work a month on the photos to make them look professional. Would you suggest that?
Pakito EXPLAIN the only draw back is its low light performance. This camera excels well with a ttl flash like the Godox T350o flash but you may not be able to use this flash at a concert. But if you use the camera with that flash fir everyday use it is awesome. Cranking the ISO won't help because it is to noisy. Not recommended if your using it to make money with your concert photos.
Victor m. Castro Jr. I would only recommend a variable ND filter. I only use an ND filter to get slower shutter speeds for filming and waterfall shots.
Pablo Talavera the FZ300 is better all around. It’s has a 2.8F through the entire zoom range. It’s has a touch screen, the Nikon does not. It has 4K burst mode . It is also wireless to transfer pictures straight to a smart phone for quick uploads. It also has built in time lapse that converts to video internally.
Can somebody please tell me if this camera is better than an iPhone 10 as a daily vlogging camera. I have both of them but I just can’t help thinking that the iPhone is better. Even though this one is bigger, I just don’t know enough to know so with some camera knowledge I’m sure one of you could tell me why it is or it is not
The only con to using your iphone as a vlogging camera is it doesnt have the zoom range as the FZ300. if you want a universal camera system for both photography and video ina small compact package then the FZ300 will run circles around a iphone 10
Trail Aesthetics Thank you so very very much for answering this. I’m really just trying to stay focused on my real job but I really have a interest in making sure that what I do put out is valuable. I realize that I can compromise and use the iPhone X but there’s just got to be something said about having a dedicated camera. I don’t know about sensors or anything but I have a feeling in low light it should be better too. But when I try to do a comparison on since your sizes I’m not sure where I saw it but it looks like the iPhone was better to. But what the hell do I know
well...if you want to vlog with your phone i'm going to give you one piece of advice that other vloggers eff up on all the time. Get a steady gimbal for your iphone so your footage is smooth as butter when walking. i cant tell you how many times i stop watching vlogs because of the vlogger hand holding their phones and everything is shaky. Get a gimbal for the iphone. i would suggest the Zhiyun Smooth-Q 3-Axis Gimbal: amzn.to/2BDY6vT
Youll get more bang for the buck with the FZ300 over the GX85 or GX850. The FZ300 has a range of 24MM to 600MM so you can reach the farthest without carrying extra lens. The FZ300 has a flip out screen for vlogging or selfie mode...the GX80 doesnt have a flip out screen. You will get everything you need for close up shots and telephoto shots all in one. All for $500. its a no brainer..the FZ300 is by far the best value for a consumer grade camera.Panasonic FZ300 4K camera: amzn.to/2BFLeoU
He means its easy to accidentally touch the screen with your nose and mess something up if you are looking through the EVF with your left eye eg. because you are left eye dominant.
Paul Germaine actually that’s not true. There is a sensor that makes the screen go dark when your eye comes in contact with the view finder. Prevents that very issue from occurring.
The Panasonic FZ300 is the perfect consumer grade camera for decent video and photography. It is not ideal in low light situations, so use a good led light or the Godoz 350 flash
@@dragonfist25 The images were very grainy. Especially when zoomed out all the way. It has a tiny sensor, so its not good in low light. I got this to set up as a web cam and the quality of the 1080p video was no better than my Logitech C920. In my opinion, the C920 is trash. My biggest issue was the 4k video looked horrible. That and it only records 4k in MP4 format. My capture card doesn't support MP4, so it was useless to me in that respects. It claims to be 25-600 at an aperture of f/2.8. A 600 mm lens with an F 2.8 aperture would be HUGE. Now, I must say that I am a complete snob when it comes to equipment and my main camera is a Sony A7III. Check this clip out and it can explain the aperture far better than I could in my own words. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-27leThF4uRk.html Its not bad for the average parent who wants to take pictures of their kids playing sports or in a school play. But for anyone who's serious about photography or making RU-vid videos, I'd stay away from this one.
@@GamersOver30 Okay I'm serious about photography. I just started getting paid gigs for portraits and I wanted to start shooting wildlife without breaking the bank. I use a Sony a6000 and a Nikon d3200. It sounds like I would be disappointed in the image quality.. Thanks for replying.
Is there a compatible gimbal for this camera? I have had mine for a year, but my 4k videos need stabilization. See this one for example. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-CAShUQweR6I.html I used it on top of a small tripod that I could carry in that video.
