In this video I give you my take on the G100. Many reviewers are comparing it to the excellent Sony Z-V1, which is understandable as Panasonic are promoting this camera as the perfect vlogging camera. I think it has more to offer and in this video I highlight why.
You can view sample images I have taken with the G100 here: www.flickr.com/photos/avpstud...

As another ZV1 and G100 user I agree totally with you. The G100 is an incredible and versatile walk around and creative content making camera. The ZV1 is better as a talk to camera about products sort of camera, but interchangeable lenses and the larger sensor and the EVF take the G100 to another level for anything else. The ZV1 behaves like a compact camera, but the G100 behaves more like a smaller version of a larger camera. Panasonic made a mistake in marketing it as a direct competitor to the ZV1 because in many ways they are different sorts of cameras that each shine in different situations. However RU-vid influencers also did a hatchet job on the camera. They decided ahead of time that they wouldn’t like the camera and instead of testing the camera’s strengths they merely highlighted its weaknesses. For a start they should have immediately thrown away that terrible kit lens and put on a better MFT alternative, a faster and wider lens. That is where the camera starts to shine and does things the ZV1 user can only dream of. I can do fisheye (I have the Olympus 8mm f1.8) The Laowa 15mm shift lens, true 1:1 macro lenses, and super telephoto. I can use f0.95 lenses. Power zoom lenses. Creative lenses from Lensbaby or Lomography. I can adapt Canon and Nikon lenses. I can use Speedboosters, use bodycap lenses, use weird apertures, and use filters. With the G100 the creative sky is the limit. The ZV1 is limited to just glueing on a Ulanzi wide adapter and hope it doesn’t fall off at an inopportune moment or wreck the lens motor because of the extra weight. There is a lot to like about the G100.

I totally agree, I have no idea why this camera is pushed primarily towards vloggers, it has so much to offer photographers as well. Thanks for your feedback.

@@AvpStudios Panasonic makes great cameras but have a lousy marketing department. Sony also makes great cameras but their real genius lies in their marketing prowess. They stroke RU-vid influencers like they are pet kittens, and the reviewers purr like crazy. I love the ZV1, but its only real innovation is the product showcase mode. But so manyRU-vid reviewers got sucked into the gimmicky background blur button as if it was a new thing when all it is is a shortcut to open the aperture by going to the darkest ND filter. Something that is readily available to anyone with an RX100 V, or any camera with a filter thread to take an ND filter. Unfortunately Panasonic marketing had so much ZV1 envy in their mind that all they did was try to show how much like the ZV1 the G100 is instead of showing us how it is better because it is different and can do things the ZV1 can’t do. I love my ZV1, I think Product Showcase is a stroke of genius and should be in every camera, but the G100 is a far more useful camera over all, and gets used a lot more than the ZV1.

Underrated comment,yes indeed, what an amazing camera,might be because im not a vlogger,but wow this camera makes me so happy,i think exactly like you,the main issue is that this camera got reviews only made by vloggers,and maybe it's not the best at it,but as value,i think there is no camera out there better than the G100 ,all the features that has,the sharpness,i am very happy for having it .

Good insight into a great little camera. I’ve had one for about a month now. I bought it as a back up camera to my G9, and asa a camera I can take anywhere- and I love it.

Detailed review! I am amazed by how good the images are. So small yet has convenient dials on the outside of the camera. Directional microphone actually works well. I am using it as a carry every camera.

Thanks for you very friendly review with masses of sensible comments on this camera's functionality. (I have had a Canon G5x as my go everywhere with me pocket camera for the last 6 years and it is showing it's age now after being dropped a number of times) I have been looking for a successor for a while. The fact that this camera has an EVF is, as you note , a must have for taking photos in bright daylight. Another important factor here is the price where Panasonic cameras are much cheaper than Sony and every bit as good. The enormous range of MFT lenses available for these cameras is not to be missed either! Thanks and Keep up the good work!

I own the g100 ,and live in Spain(always sunny) and i never use the EVF ,the screen is just amazing.I cannot see myself using the EVF .Maybe if u want to keep battery,that would be the only case that i can see for using it.

Very helpful. Enjoyed your photos. They illustrate the quality well. Could you list the lenses you have used for photos? Am curious about the longer ones. Just got G100 and was initially surprised when Input my 14-140 on it. I thought is there a point to this when I’ve got my G 95 and 7. The G100 is much less light with these longer lenses and the grip is smaller. So I am wondering do I have a use for it. Not sure yet. Thanks! Very informative.

I bought a Sony RX100 for street shooting (somehow new earliest models are back on the market in the US) and the G-100 for video. Missing an audio output for headphones on the G100.

Very nice review! I am considering buying the G100 for making movies in tight places, subjects can be 2 to 8 feet from the camera, some scenes inside and some outside. Possibly episodic show or full length movies for youtube. My question is what lens would be best for a narrow depth of field for the blurry background, subject closer would be in focus. I have other video cameras for other scenes. David in Rio Rancho, New Mexico, USA.

Did you purchase ur decision yet ? I'm exploring G100 possibly to replace a Sony ZV-1. The ZV-1 lens is a retractable zoom that is so fragile that mine tipped over forward mere inches out and down from while mounted on one of those mini tripods you see people holding with the legs folded up like a mini selfie stick or gimbal stick etc, and anyway just by tipping forward from a hip bump to a desktop corner, like everybody does once in a blue moon, well poof - just like that the ZV-1's fully extended lens buckled and stuck _frozen_ *bent* like in a dogleg shape. Had to manually pull it free. Got it unstuck. But the zoom motor or mechanism was all out of whack. At startup the lens wouldn't open up unless manually hand-assisted (yanked out by hand). And also, at shut down, the lens wouldn't self-close either, unless...you guessed it - had to give it a 3-stooges-esque bop on the nose to nudge it into being seated in the camera body's lens cylinder base to be recognized as being retracted or it wouldn't shut off. That lasted a few days. Then (now) it just wouldn't turn on. When plugged in the battery lamp indicator won't indicate if the battery is either inserted and the unit is (attempting to) powering up/turning on, or charging (like before), Now nothing. Swapping batteries=nothing. Use of AC outlet with dummy battery=nothing. USB power supply=Nope. Nothing works. It won't even come on. All from a 2 &1/2 to 3 & 1/2 inch frontways tip-over ? Really ? Yep, REALLY. So good-bye ZV-1. adios. And oh by the way, I have a Panasonic Lumix 14mm F/1.2 MFT pancake lens for a Panasonic GH3, that will work for the focal lengths you asked about, that can also attach to a G100 which also uses MFT lens-mount. Just a suggestion and some observations from a fellow actual user. You said you have other cameras for other purposes so it sounds like ur already versed in the lingo. That Lumix 14mm being a pancake lens to me seems an ideal match for the similarly streamlined dimensions of a G100. Hope the info helps, if it was not too late !! -best

Vloggers seem to dislike this camera because it has no IBIS, but it has Panny's AF system and 4K crop. Those time limits are just silly, especially the 1080p limit. It's still too expensive for those who aren't bothered with this or external audio (i.e. those who could use the mic system in it) as well.
@thatdeephouse1207

True,but they could let people know that the camera is amazing,and amazing value,out of the vlogging world,instead,they dont,maybe bc they just dont care .
@oscararrieta326

Silly question, a wider lens like the Lumix Leica 8mm-18mm F 2.8 won't do the job, if you want really light equipment for vloging.
@AvpStudios
@AvpStudios 2 года назад
You are right, that lens is a bit heavy but an ideal lens would be the Olympus 9-18, very compact and not expensive. Not the best lens for image quality if stills are the main objective but fine for vlogging.

@trendscoutplus4584

That's also a great little camera ! 4K with *no crop* ?. In that little box ? *NICE* Being that it's APS-C lens mount type based means that it can swap lenses with an XH2 or XH2S ? Now that's a pretty slick advantage of being within that ecosystem. Fuji's color science is truly uniquely _theirs_ , slightly contrasty but undeniably vibrant. Distinctly cutting edge fashionable, *no doubt* .

Biggest flaw with ZV-1 is a 24mm lens when you need at least 20mm as a minimum

The Panasonic LX10 is comparable to the ZV1, not the G100 because of its ability to change lenses. The Zv e10 is what is compared to the G100.

It is bizare considering the EU have lifted additional taxes on cameras with limits, maybe its to do with over heating?? although the zv1 has no limits an it's smaller
@Luke-vg7ut
@Luke-vg7ut 3 года назад
@@AvpStudios There are plenty of small cameras with no record limits (almost all phones!) - I feel that most of the features these cheaper cameras lack are done on purpose to protect the higher end camera sales. Sony does this too (no active stabilization on sony a7c but they have it on the ZV-1) because the ZV-1 is outside the alpha series it got basically all the features that any sony camera could have as they didnt see people buying a ZV-1 instead of an interchangeable lens camera
