just bought the G9II next to my OM1 - I spend all my spare time in the wild - sold my Nikon Z72 - with the pro glass of Olympus both camera's work great - have the G9II for video and the OM1 for photography - the G9II works great with the OM-lenses even with both the 1.4x and 2.0 teleconverters - oh eh and you nailed it here 👍

Yep, I think it is a great camera. I just with Panasonic viewed things differently to reach their customers. Enjoy your G92 I am sure it is a great camera.

I haven't used a Panasonic camera much, but I have similar story with Pentax. The K3III was coming out and I was excited. Pentax hadn't released much information on it except a couple of silly things with the viewfinder, and if you can believe it, the middle finger area of the grip! Anyway, it was finally released, and I went to the 4-5 guys on RU-vid that review Pentax...and nothing. A couple of videos surfaced from reviewers that I had never seen before. The regular Pentax reviewers were neither sent a camera nor given any consideration at all. These no-name reviewers said, "wow the viewfinder is great," and "wow my middle finger really feels comfortable on this camera." That was the last time I looked at Pentax, and my middle finger has never felt so good.

Yes, this is exactly what I am talking about. There are a few real Pentax Shooters on youtube but they have smaller channels. So basically Pentax ignores them and goes with the more known channels that gives them a quick overview and says yea well the camera does not suck but its no Nikon either and the camera gets returned and that is the extent of their marketing. ohh well, relating to the G9ii has any more wildlife guys switched their gear to the G9 from nikon or canon ? I have nto seen any more usage since its release still only 2 guys out of 100 that I follow. Yep same old same old.

100%. I used a G9 for motorsport. Hillclimbs and sprints, speedway etc. I was starting out and bang for buck it fit. But the AF was... well it left a lot to be desired due to no phase/hybrid. I learned my tool though and got good results. Then I tried a friend's X-H1. And it blew me away. The glass is better, and the AF was waaay better. Yes still some misses, but a lot more usable. So I looked at the price of the good glass and it was comparable between the Panasonic and Fujifilm. So I sold up and bought an X-H1 and a XF50-140 and worked from there. If I knew a G9ii was coming with phase af, I may have stuck around. The size is a massive win for the reach, noise with the smaller sensor isn't really an issue. In fact some of the images I took prior to my G9 when I used a G85 are my favourites still. G9 was amazing. All they had to fix was AF. To date it is still thr best feeling camera in my hand. Oh well.

I agree with you completely. I personally felt that the prices of Panasonic cameras fall pretty rapidly just within a few months. I'm a proud owner of multiple Lumix cameras but these days I'm not thinking about upgrading because they don't keep up the value as others. RU-vidrs who talk about these cameras are always low compared, they just put statements with a question mark like "is this the best full frame camera ?" They don't give a judgement but safely act. So that other brands can continue to send their products to them or pay. All these RU-vidrs are just gadget reviewers and not real photographers.

Hi, I do video shooting only. Although I have a Pana 50-200, until now I have never taken it for wildlife shooting. Since I'm in my way to sell my GH5 II to go for the G9 II, I was interesting in watching your video. From what I understand, what doesn't match your own expectations concerns Pana Mkg Dept and the misstreatment current G9 users get. The Engineering Dept did such a great job + the advantages MFT format brings to travellers who want to take good quality video and carrying low weight, I would not be surprised that your prognosis is wrong... So we'll see.

Very true, they are very good, capable and versatile cameras but the marketing is inferior. Lucky I was accidentally introduced into Lumix back in 2018 looked for 4K video compact camera and bought the TZ100 since then I have bought many Panasonic Lumix products and replaced my Canon and Sony gear. One downside is accessories from Panasonic are absurdly priced, like 1.4X, 2X for both full frame and micro four third systems. I am waiting for upgrade to their in camera image computation algorithm and a compact version of G9 ii

I am going to replace my g9 by its successor. I definitely do not shoot a lot of wild life. You can do much more with this camera.Its a pity that it took Panasonic so long to come up with it.

Should I get: A7RV + Tamron 50-400 =1.878kg, or XT5 + 18-300 (27-450) =1.177kg, or G9 II+ Leica 50-200 (100-400) =1.313kg mainly for photo, + Panasonic HC-X1500 25-600 camcorder + Zoom M3 mic for video + iPhone 15 13-52 for pocketable pic&vid? Like: A7RV: 4 ways screen, croppable XT5: dedicated dials experience G9 II: 300 fps slow motion, my favorite yellow color theme in the menu! Dislike: A7RV: not all video full sensor readout XT5: try to look like film than real life even the standard Provia G9II: potentially the side way screen for photography Uses: Document everyday, travel, RU-vid, shoot video with the camera mostly when I need to, shoot SOOC JPG / HEIF mostly, personal projects include street and mall photography with full body person with blue background, all these super tele can get blur enough to achieve it? Tamron 18-300 can be just one lens to do it all but reviews showed quality control seem not consistent, Leica 50-200 isn't close enough for everyday isn't it, Tamron 50-400 is good but is the weight ok to carry everyday? Should I get ultrawide zoom too for everyday carry or just use the iPhone? Sony 16-35 F4 PZ / 7A 9mm F5.6, Sony 10-20 F4 PZ / SIGMA 10-18 F2.8, Leica 8-18 F2.8-4 / Leica 9mm F1.7. I didn't consider smaller camera because I think better get actual pant pocketable camera like Sony RX100 series or go proper size because camera in between still need a bag to carry yet doesn't have good handling and EVF like the not much bigger size A7RV. I curious about macro and micro world, but I can just google them right as specialist will do that for us and even if I shoot, they will be more or less the same? Does magnification ratio need to multiple crop sensor ratio? If need to multiple, does the object will appear as it's true size no matter if it's full frame or MFT if the final mag ratio is 1:1? Is there a way to make the in camera JPG output colors match Hasselblad Natural Color Science of these camera? Is there a way to change the orange theme to yellow theme in Sony menu, with accessibility functions maybe? Is the Zoom M3 mic good? What's the best way to get surround sounds audio and mono shotgun when I want to? To get stereo but the sound in center screen clear, better have a 3 channels setup where 2 for stereo and 1 for mono shotgun? Or 4 channels with 2 points forward and 2 point backward? Sennheiser MKE 440 patented stereo mic marketed as it make the sound from center screen clearer, is it really only possible with it or just adjust stereo mic at that angle will get same result, that mic is just more compact and one piece V shape?

They are all good cameras and with some work you can match colors to other cameras but you will find color matches changes with lighting conditions so you can get close but its always a bit off. Wish I could be more help... Those are all good cameras. If it was wildlife id say g9ii or sony r5... Landscape Sony, youtube G9ii, street Fuji.... Compromises man wish you the best.

I don't think the average type of person that gets a m43 camera cares about the latest and greatest camera. They WILL get the G9ii at some point but are happy with their G9 or other APS-C/FF cameras they may have right now. I don't plan on getting the G9ii until after the first big price drop around the Holidays next year.

Sadly time is running out for panasonic and the m43 mount. It only has 2% or maybe 3% of the market for this type of effort. A drastic change is needed. Olympus as well. I mentioned this about Pentax years ago how they are loosing photographers as their marketing is probably the worst out of any existing camera brand. TO make these camera viable you need large sales. I just do not see that happening. … They will sell a few but existing photographers much like Pentax see the writing on the walls and not repurchase. Shelf space is so limited on cameras now, Pentax does not exist and panasonic just a super tiny fraction.

I will say, I've watched a few G9II reviews and it does seem like a perfect camera for me. I'm an ecologist and usually shoot while carrying other equipment so space for a full frame 150-600 is just not a possibility. I'll definitely be buying one, but I agree that the marketing push has been pretty bad. I like a lot of the m43 creators that I follow, but most of them are pretty mediocre wildlife photographers at best. I think there's going to be a big wildlife focused push in the next couple of days when embargo lifts on the PanaLeica 100-400mm MKII (teleconverter support!) but from the shots I was seeing in the G9II video I doubt it will go any better. Shots at a zoo or with no inherent drama in the image seem like the norm. What's worse is that a lot of them actually look unsharp, or lack contrast in a way that I know isn't the equipment's fault - I'm using the G9 MK1 and Lumix 100-300mm currently and getting much better results. Hearing someone say this is an amazing wildlife camera while a reel of fuzzy shots plays is not a good look.

@@MAKE_PHOTOGRAPHS_ANYWHERE The guy of m43 rumors complained that they didn’t got many pre orders using his link. This tells you 2 things, the camera is not selling well and second all this You Tubers are simply undercover sales man running a business. The issue with this camera is that the m43 users interested in photography already moved to OM-1. The Panasonic social media video crowd from GH4 era moved to Sony for better AF in video after Panasonic kept pushing their DFD autofocus. Tony Northrup, Gerald Undone, Max Yuryev, Patrick Tomaso and many others moved from m43 to Sony for their You Tube videoing due to AF and maybe also getting free stuff.

I disagree, you like many others overestimate the enthusiast market, this is not limited to cameras but also applies to wristwatches, automobiles, and much more. Niche enthusiasts/qualified buyers will do the homework, you don't have to chase them with marketing, you appeal to them with objective specs. They're baked in, they'll go into the spec sheets and know what to look for. Broad marketing should be used for the general/casual consumer, those are the buyers you need to convert into new sales.

When the GH5 came out there was a lot of hype and I bought into it as well as many lenses. Unfortunately I could never rely on the autofocus. Then I started taking pics of birds around our country property. I jumped to a R7 and it has been amazing with the animal detection and eye detection. So much that I got a R6 mark2 but it has not impressed me for birds (great for video and portrait though). The extra megapixels of the R7 really shows through in the details. That being said the G9mk2 is tempting because of my m43 lenses but I have already seen that 25 megapixel can be disappointing and already being burned once by panasonic also gives me hesitation. I suspect I will wait it out for the R5 mk2.

I'm not so sure. Why don't we see more videos where they concentrate on the photographic element and even ignore the video side?
@MAKE_PHOTOGRAPHS_ANYWHERE
@MAKE_PHOTOGRAPHS_ANYWHERE 11 месяцев назад
@@rayjennings3637 Ahh so Panasonic came out recently with a post indicating that their cameras are really really focused on video. They feel that photography as we know it is dying. I am not kidding you, it was a post they had about 1 year ago. They indicted the growth is in video content creation as their GH6 camera was SUPPOSE to be sellling well. The G9ii I thought was dead, but I think they realized that the GH6 is not doing as well as they wanted. Also THEIR full frame systems I think is where a majority of their effort will be in the future. This might be the last shot at the g9ii but from what I tell they really want video focused cameras with photography taking a slight back seat. Either way they have kind of squandered the BIG acceptance that they needed. I only see one way out for them and that is to do what Olympus is trying to do but on a MUCH BIGGER Scale. Olympus only had like 1 wildlife guy putting out videos now their are probably 3 or 4 but the partnership is somewhat very limited. It is an uphill battle for Panasonic as they only have 1 to 3% of the market.
@GregBrammah
@GregBrammah 9 месяцев назад
I worry, being an m43 user both olympus, my preference, and panasonic with the g9 mk1, that the g9ii will actually kill off m43. My preference is the em5 series from Oly. For me it's about size and weight. This is the m43 advantage, surely. Highly specified cameras and quality optics in the smallest lightest package possible for the win. The em1 and g9 series have limited use cases for me, at least, and while useful with larger lenses for sports and maybe wildlife, they are not the cameras I pick up as my edc. So, to my pessimistic thinking. The om5 was a missed opportunity and highlights a lack of forward thinking by OM Systems (really JIP). It was probably already in the pipeline, as was the Om1 when Olympus offloaded the camera division. Thus, very little r&d required to get to market. Unless an om5 mkii turns up soon with Om1 innards or an Om1 revision, the writing is on the wall and we'll find JIP we're not the leopard that changed their spots. Panasonic meanwhile make yet another full featured oversized m43 flagship that now favourably competes not only with the Om1 but also cannibalises and confuses their own gh line. I'm guessing that many m43 users with em1 series cameras that were dithering over the Om1 and not leaping to it because they are worried obout the longevity of the company selling it, after seeing their second camera the om5 as such a backward step. (good little camera that it sort of is) may now get the g9 mk2; having the perception that it will be the safer bet. However, many like myself will be seriously considering alternatives in the fuji x series lineup. Currently the xt-5 for edc and xh2 for sports and wildlife are extremely serious competitors for my money.

ahh but as a non trained eye it appears these guys are talking wildlife but they are most likely not wildlife photographers. Sure you can get a general feel for the camera but I do wildlife and the 100 guys I follow do it extensively but 90% will never see, pick up or promote that camera. Go back through their channel and look for actual wildlife photography like how they work in the field, not the zoo but in the cold in the rain. I have so far only seen maybe 2 guys get the camera that I respect as a wildlife camera the others are good CAMERA REVIEWERS and will talk a good game but give them 1 month and they will be on to another camera review with the G9ii as a memory. @@user-rj1hx5jz1n it's not the form factor (the shape; the size does matter) that makes a battery better, it's the materials used and the production quality. They could have, if they wanted to compliment their trusty G9 owners, made a better battery in the housing of the G9's original one, but they probably want to create an illusion of overhaul, an impression of a step up, and increase the sales of their accessories.

I feel you but a good friend shoots only Wildlife.. and he already invested in Canon and he is locked in making his money.. (he’s not going to disrupt that to test a switch and have to sell off much of what’s working. I think Panasonic understands the wildlife shooters that are like you will do their research and make that huge switch if they are unhappy but Panasonic has no fake dreams that they are going to convert to Panasonic after people are invested in Sony and Canon, lens and all. I feel they want to get in the biggest pool so the newer shooters understand who they are. I came in the game with Canon and never thought to look to entertain Nikon or Panasonic so I get it….they have a dilemma of getting more familiar to the masses like Sony and Canon already have locked. We can’t forget these releases are still super new releases. It’s a tough choice, talk to the niche shooters that are loyal but stay fairly unknown to the large pool currently owned by Sony. I have to admit the new LUMIX line is spectacular it’s just a tough call to make.

You do not have to be upset that Panasonic has not gifted you a prototype in exchange for your review. I used to participate in the bloggers selection process, and I can tell you, that your channel with 3K subscribers would not qualify. Camera makers only have limited time on the reviews before the embargo date, therefore they usually deal with a few "ambassadors" who have all the paperwork done in advance, and who have significant audiences. And camera makers usually do not have unlimited number of prototypes to share (could be half-dozen), and prototypes can not be gifted, they are not final, all must be returned back.
@MAKE_PHOTOGRAPHS_ANYWHERE
@MAKE_PHOTOGRAPHS_ANYWHERE 11 месяцев назад
Yep totally get that but we are talking about the long play. How will Panasonic move forward without supporting other wildlife guys. This 1 review hype train will not get them the camera sells they are looking for. They have to change things up with different tactics like Sony did years ago. They are basically marketing safe by doing what other leading brands are doing. Panasonic has only 1% to 5% of the market. Out of the 100 wildlife channels I subscribe to i bet only 2 will use their cameras on a weekly basis if that.

Stafford, you probably know Duade Paton is planning on reviewing the G9 Mk2 and comparing it to the newish OM-1 but I think you make a good point about marketing. Whatever arguments full-frame or even cameras like the R7 can muster against MFT the portability of micro-four-thirds is hard to ignore. Some ads showing the quality that can be achieved with MFT in addition to portability and cost savings could be very persuasive. I plan to add a Mark 2 body to my existing G9 as soon as I can scrape up the change. I hope Panasonic will take your advice to heart.

Bruce, yep a lot of guys will compare this camera to others then pat it on the back saying ahhh it’s great but will these same guys actually use them in real wildlife photography ? The problem with many of the reviewers is that they just move on to the next camera and the g9 ii will be in isolation just like the g9 where only die hard guys know about the cameras capability. For me at least alot of the people that have bought the Nikons say they have watched my wildlife videos to see the results and watch it being used in real world conditions. If there were multiple guys using the camera then newer photographs might say hey maybe that camera is really that good people shoot it over a nikon. Anyway, I will leave it at that lol…. Thanks for watching as always Bruce.

You could also make the argument that the birding people already know what they want. If they're in wildlife, M43 is already on their radar. Who doesn't have M43 on their radar? IMO, general users or noobs.

Yea, sadly the safe bet for all noobs is Canon, Sony or Nikon from the support of bestbuy and other chains which have the shelf space and sponsored employees to help push the brand when they go in the store. Its hard to ignore a sales rep that so heavily pushes SAID brand of camera.

It's interesting to see your video here after I have just come across tons and tons of G9ii reviews that are all from wildlife photographers. More than any other camera to be reviewed I have seen. On my end, how the camera is being marketed to me is all about wildlife and the size/ weight avings you get from MFT...
@MAKE_PHOTOGRAPHS_ANYWHERE
@MAKE_PHOTOGRAPHS_ANYWHERE 11 месяцев назад
Yea these guys are wildlife photographers but do they create wildlife videos with the gear or is it a review of the g9 m2 ? We will see if they actually adopt the camera or they are just a paid 1 video review for panasonic. There is a large difference between doing a review on a camera saying you are a wildlife guy but are they actually making wildlife videos and photos with panasonic gear now ?? Joe Mariano is the only guy that has used them in multiple videos. I myself have my very first video Prarrie Chickens P1000 that I do use the panasonic g9 in that video and about 30% of my photos camera from the g9/om5m2. I am sure there will be a few guys doing a quick cash grab but my thoughts are they will go back to their original wildlife camera unless panasonic changes their marketing. Time will tell….

People aren't stupid,. Panasonic refused to move to phase detect autofocus for almost 10 years. Like an athelte at the start of the 100 meters in the olympics final refusing to get in their blocks. The race started 10 years ago. The runners and winners have better tech, larger sensors , vast ranges of OEM and third party glass - it's over.for Panasonic in both the M43 and full frame IMO. The m43 fans are getting their first phase detect autofocus m43 at a time when the full frame models from Sony are smaller and with new lens that are nothing like the size their were. I might buy the G9 II because I own a lot of m43 but I own Sony A7R V, ZVE1 and A6700 plus many Gmaster and other Sony lenses. Only RU-vids flip flop between systems - the move to mirror less gave everyone a once in a photography lifetime to choose a new "system". They chose Sony. Nikon uses Sony high tech sensors but I expect as Sony have registered 3 new cameras in China, where they have to register anything with wifi in them , we'll see a new A1 and A9 with even more powerful stacked sensors than Sony sell to Nikon. Canon again left it too late and now out sell Sony by numbers but Sony's camera turnover is the biggest. m43 has only one thing going for it, size and if you look at the power of the , for example, a A6700 with a sigma 18-50mm f2.8 dc dn that is both very small and very powerful. The room for a very small m43 might be there as a niche market. Just my opiion of course.
