As someone who shot film with a DSLR in the 80's and 90's, hearing a top panel referred to as novel vs old is funny. It was one of the main reasons I bought the G9 over the OMD and OM1; that and all the awesome feature's you've mentioned in your great videos. Thanks, Connor. Keep 'em coming - Wes in Wicklow.

When God bestowed his blessings upon a camera he had but one choice... G9. When others tout the accolades of their cameras, the masses replied... G9. And then Panasonic produced firmware 2.0 offering us an even better camera for free... the G9 was elevated to shear legend!!! I have been shooting for a half a century and have literally used every flagship camera ever made, when choosing a “b” camera for my remarkable G9, my choice was so clear... a second G9!!! Welcome Back My Friend 🙏🏻

I've been using a T3i since 2011, and for some time now, I've been itching to upgrade my camera, especially in the 4K world. Well, after about 3 hrs of research, all roads led to the G9, and with the insane 33% off sale, I quickly bought it. I've been playing around with it for the past 2 days now, and I'm in love. This camera is incredible. I just stumbled upon this video today and was delightedly to see that you chose it as the best camera in 2020. Not that I had any doubts about my decision, but it only strengthened that decision even more. Thanks for sharing!

Agreed! I've been through Fuji, Canon and Sony. If you can't get good results from any manufacturer these days, the camera isn't the problem.......but I've never had a camera just "make sense" and be more of a joy to shoot with than the G9. No camera I've tested has better ergonomics, and the results simply speak for themselves. Currently stuck on the Sigma 16mm, what a wonderful lense.

About month ago, was buying Pana Leica 25/1.4 mk2 for my Olympus EM5mkIII, wanted small but weather sealed prime. When I were at camera shop did not have body with me and asked salesperson something to try lens on. He handed over G9. I watched few videos about it, ergonomics, AF etc but when camera landed in my hands I fall in love with it. It is different from my Olympus EM1mkII, I can feel completely different design philosophy but it was so good! So I grabbed both lens and body, it doesn't compete with my Olympus bodies, pure compliment. Every time when I am using it, I feel special joy in it. So, your pick of camera 2020 is right spot on. At least for me ;)

@@CreativeConnor 25/1.4 is super lovely. It is not like 17/1.2 or 45/1.2 Pro (do not have 25/1.2 went to this one instead). Olympus Pro primes from different world, if you try one you will understand. Pana Leica has different DNA, little bit smooth (don't misunderstand, it is sharp, absolute sharp), bokeh is different more like my old Zeiss ZM 50/2. Light, AF is super fast, no complaints. I didn't noticed CA (sorry got spoiled by Olympus and my requirements are pretty high ;)). Only one tiny problem. Hood. It got gorgeous rectangle hood. Looking cool and protecting well but it is not reversible. So, need few more cubic inches of space in bag ;) But as lens - no question, worth every cent. Took it to Malaysia, was there for couple days, rain, shine, humidity - highly recommend. If you want I can send you link to album where all photos are made with it, may be it will give you some idea.

Hello, Connor. I am really enjoying your channel. I've been on the Canon bus since the 20D and marched on through to the 70D for my main cameras. I had the G10 for a walking camera and loved it. It was built like a tank (though not theft-proof). The G-series got progressively plasticy and the video was pretty weak. I picked up a couple of GX85s to make a little talk show for RU-vid. I was really impressed with those sturdy little Panasonics. Canon took also something away from me in the 70D that I just could not forgive them for and was frequently frustrated by; they took away my dedicated white balance button. That doesn't sound like a big deal, but shooting events where I go from indoors, to outdoors, and the sometimes wildly different indoor lighting with some rooms incandescent, some florescent, and some with LED in the mix, I change my White Balance a LOT. I hated having to pull the camera from my face to poke at the touch screen to make adjustments. I happened across a video about the G9 and the preview thumbnail showed the top plate of the camera. OMG a real button for W/B!!! I watched the video and was just floored by the features. They have thought of everything! Right down to changing the size of the EVF for people that wear glasses so you can still see the whole image though your eye is farther away. But, could I really leave Canon? I have all these lenses... Is a white balance button really worth changing systems? The more I looked at it, it was so much more then the W/B button. It was the whole package. IBIS, IS lenses that don't cost $2000 and up, great video features, I'll say again - IBIS, so many programmable buttons... the list of reasons to go for it just kept getting longer, so I pulled the trigger. You know what? I wish I had done it sooner. When I opened the box and put it in my hand, it reminded me of the old Vietnam-era Canon AE-1 that a friend had given me. SOLID, yet nimble. Buttons and dials where they need to be. With a little field trial and error, I have the programmable buttons set up for how I work. The hair-trigger shutter button is taking some getting used to, and I've even had to dial down the FPS to not accidentally take 15-20 shots. (used to 8fps on the 70D) The AF modes are great, and fast. It's not all puppies and rainbows... Shooting without flash at an evening dinner party in an Italian restaurant will make you want to cause harm to yourself and others. I had not purchased a flash for it yet. Lesson learned. (I wouldn't have even attempted this with my unstabilized Canon) However noisy the files were at ISO 3200, the IBIS and OIS lens made possible things that I would have never even attempted before. A great value indeed! Loving my G9.

Hi David! Thanks for such a thoughtful, well-written comment. I loved reading it 😍 The G9 is a special camera, that seems to have almost too much in it for when it was released, with the firmware updates tapping into its true potential it's become a completely new beast in 2019 and I only see that continuing into 2020. Low light needs the fastest glass to make it work. Yet I find the files clean up decently in post-editing and I don't mind using B&W for the G9 low light images to help iron out the noise. I always have the Sony A7iii for lower light work anyway so I guess it doesn't hinder me too much anyway! I'm planning to get out shooting tomorrow around the coastline need my house and I'm so excited to bring the G9 with the Pana/Leica 100-400! Hopefully, I'll catch some nice wildlife. Either way, I know I'll have the best time with the Panasonic on my strap 😎

Funny, same story for me. I picked up a G-85 about mid 2019 while I was waiting for my BMPCC4K and have fallen in love with that little thing. Now I’m considering passing that to my so. As he’s getting to the age where he should start learning it and then picking up the G9 to replace it. It can easily b-cam for the P4K and then do all the other stuff I like to do when just shooting on my own. Great to see these incredibly positive reviews on this camera!

Have been working with large format and full frame (D)SLR's for decades. Experimented with smaller sensors, because I got tired of the heavy and bulky gear on trips. Was very apprehensive about using a smaller sensor-camera at first but decided to order the G9 early just on the specs and was one of the first to get my camera december 28th 2017. Was amazed with the camera from the first day on. This camera made me realize how much BS is published on internet about photo gear and how much of the information is focused on theoretical values and lab measurements. Photography is about doing it and by doing it you experience the real values and virtues of a camera(system). Perfect ergonomics and handling, great performance and image quality that was much better than expected. Sold all my large gear and never looked back. It's my primary camera now for more than 2 years on all my trips. It still surpises me every day. What a fun and joy to work with this camera. It revived my photography. Boy, did they get it right at Panasonic with this machine ....

@@CreativeConnor Mostly landscapes, city-scapes and often in 'weird' conditions (I wait for weather changes to get interesting light and skies). But also street photography. I use the 'old' 7-14mm and a 35-100mm. And weirdly enough I love to use the consumer-grade 14-140mm. I don't know if I got a stellar one by accident, but mine gives very good results. If I compare the results with the very expensive and heavy models I had for my FF DSLR, it outperforms it easily. Lucky I guess. Or Panasonic got that right too ... ? Favourite feature? The crazy sensor stabilization that allows me to make impossible handheld shots.

Just came back from a trip to Africa. Both - images and videos - came out great. No regrets taking it with me and leaving the GH5 at home. Not that the GH5 isn't a great camera as well, but over all the G9 was better for the trip. Also left all my nice and bokeh- rich manual lenses at home. Just used the 8-18, 12-35, 35-100 and 100-400 with me. Actually kind of overkill. But hey: I like to cover stuff... :) Riding in a 4x4 over a really bad road, filming from the front seat: the lens and the body did a great job stabilizing the footage. My whole body was blue, but the footage is great. What a camera.

When I left Nikon for m 4/3, I first bought a used G9, and I thought it was great. That said, I found the auto focus was great with Panasonic lenses, but I would miss shots with other brands. I ended up selling it and getting an Olympus e-m1 mk II, which is also great. I gave up some(a fair bit, actually) of video features, but that isn't something I spend a lot of time on, anyway. I think, if one sticks with Panasonic lenses and/or manual focus, the G9 is probably the best bang-for-the-buck out there. If you want to have similar performance across different lens makers, and especially if you want to adapt lenses from other formats, the Olympus seems to do better with it's hybrid contrast/phase system.

So glad to see this video ... I've had a G9 for over a year now and really did love it for all the arguments for Micro 4/3's and overall user friendliness of Panasonic. I about lost fell out of the chair when I saw the firmware update - mind you, I get it, Gh5 still has more powerful video specs, but still. I don't use it for work work (maybe a side gig coming up), but can't wait to push the new video specs. Anyway, I love the G9, feels amazing in hand and you're spot on about IBIS, hard to go back from that. My biggest question/issue so far since I've been shooting a bit in 10 bit is how to deal with these files on my MacBook ... I can't even preview them with Quicktime. Maybe I'm doing something wrong or need to fix a bug. I'll also be doing some proxy editing, I suppose. Thanks for the video and great to see ya up here!
@CreativeConnor
@CreativeConnor 4 года назад
Hey Justin! That's what I'm saying the video. It's all down to that LGOP format. It's a resource hog because of the way it's encoded. Proxies will help a lot. You should be able to playback and edit fine then. I can edit the LGOP files on my PC (12core 64gbRam 1080tiGPU). I think it just brute forces it. The GH5 updated the LGOP codec to ALL-Intra and that was night and day on playback. ALL-I is so easy on the computer. I edit in resolve 16 studio and have premiere too. I mostly use the Media Encoder from Adobe to re-encode files. It's a pretty simple way to make proxies or convert your LGOP 10bit files to quicktime/mp4

The G9 is indeed a fabulous camera, and now costs approximately half what I (happily!) paid for mine shortly after it was launched. So it is, by a country mile, the best value, fully pro' spec camera available in the UK, especially when Panasonic have special promo' deals, and the most versatile too, even before firmware v2.0/2.1. As soon as I picked one up for the first time, it felt 'right', and is probably the best handling camera I've ever used (my other contenders are the Canon T90 and Nikon F5, so thats a while back!). It just does everything well. Factor in the known pro's and cons of the MFT format sensor, and the G9 is a camera which isn't 'old', it just hasn't dated. It's still utterly competitive, and a bit under-rated. Enjoy yours!

Hi Connor, greetings from a fellow Dubliner! What's the craic? Thanks to you and your recommendation, I got myself a G9 today :) I have been a Canon shooter(EOS M series) for a long time and soon to be a Fuji shooter (yes, I've pre-ordered X-T4. yay!) however, when I watched this video, I had to get my hands on the G9. It's only been less than a few hours but I'm really happy with this beast so far. It's nice to see some familiar places on your video (Dublin bus, camden street, howth). Keep up the good work :)

Just came across your channel. Too bad I didn't a few days ago or you would have got a kickback as I purchased a G9. Gets here today. I have a A7iii with the tamron 28-75mm f2.8 and a Loxia 21mm f2.8 for Northern Lights. I used to have a Sony 55mmf1.8 ( awesome lens) but sold it. If this G9 takes decent photos I have a feeling I will sell off my barely used A7iii. I came from Fuji which I miss but 5 years ago I had a Olympus OMD Em1 (16mp) and said then I would never go back to Micro 4/3rds. But this G9 is drawing me back. I also just purchased a Fujifilm X100V which makes me so excited. Cheers from Canada. I went to Ireland in 2016 and loved every second of it. I have a friend who lives near the Waterford area.

Hi Connor! Yes I have a G9 and I love it and I have no inclination to change for the foreseeable future. I agree with you that it is incredible value for money considering what it can do. My use is actually different from yours, in that I use it mostly for travel photography or for recording what I see when I'm out and about in the mountains or at sporting events and for filming sporting events. Generally good light situations ... where I'm looking for something reasonably lightweight but with good handling, usability, functionality and stabilisation at a reasonable price. My most used lens is the 14-140mm which I'd recommend to anyone for travel photography in conjunction with a small fast prime (such as the 15mm or 25mm 1.4) for any darker/indoor shots. I use the 100 to 400mm that you have for wildlife/bird photography, and the 42.5mm 1.2mm for gigs/concerts, so the one body with various lens combinations does what I'm looking for in a range of situations. Like all cameras, it has its weaknesses and compromises, but for my main uses its close to perfect. Like you highlighted, the menu system and button/dial customisation functionality is second to none and the grip seems perfect for my hands. It's not the right camera for everyone of course, but for what I'm looking for I'm not aware of a better value for money option available in 2020. 🙂

I agree with the title. But in terms of value depreciation, G9 hasn't held its value the best: G9 cost $1700 at the time of release and is currently $1k and $800 used. You'd never see that big drop on a popular FF body like A7iii.

When I first tried a G9 in store I loved it, better hand grip than the gh5, nicer EVF better IBIS, etc. The video abilities let me down though and I was set on buying a gh5 instead. While I was waiting for a used gh5 to pop up at a good price used in the local camera market firmware 2.0 was released and I immediately decided to buy the G9 at full price brand new with 2 extra batteries. Absolutely amazing camera and kit. It's so good it is even hard to rig up and take out my bmpcc4k anymore. I've relegated the 4k to just professional use and the G9 is my do everything camera now.

Nice to see you in front of the camera again, hope you’re feeling better. So last Autumn I sold the GH4 and that half way funded the purchase of a G9 body (I was shocked at how much the GH4 was still worth). I still have the GH5 (they both have the battery grip attached) and a collection of lenses going back about 8 years: 100-300, 35-100, 12-35, Nocto 42.5, Leica 25 & Leica 15, the 45 macro and last week i got a used Samyang 12 for £150. I bought the G9 (pre version 2.0 firmware) to use predominantly for photos and as a back up video camera. I haven’t bothered buying the V-log upgrade yet (I remember the bloody palaver I had upgrading the GH5) but I will do if I get a gig where two cameras are sharing the load!

Yo Colin! How are you? I'm doing ok.. it's complicated but I'm in a good place at the moment. Thanks for asking!! 😎 PREACH! The vlog upgrades such a nightmare experience for the user. I have to say I won't be bothering because of the HLG profile! Love the look from the camera with it 🤓 That lens collection is wonderful. I think I'd like the 8-16 to complete my set.. The widest of the wide and the longest of the long haha a rather bipolar combination 😂

Connor Dunne Im grand thanks. I have never tried the HLG on the GH5 as I got the V-log and apparently thats a wee bit better. But I suppose I should try out HLG on the G9 to see how close it is to V-Log when imported into FCPX. In other news, I just bought this Gimbal Extension handle but I tried mounting it straight onto the G9 and it’s like halfway to having a cage! fotowelt Universal Ronin SC Gimbal Handle Grip Ronin S Extension Bracket with Hot Shoe Mount Compatible for Zhiyun Crane 2/Smooth 4 /Osmo Mobile 2/MOZA AirCross/Smartphone Gimbal www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B07Q5D4HN6/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_tai_vlDpEbZ3XXGYF

Connor Dunne I tried it out indoors yesterday and it’s nice to have the wider grip and a Left handle plus I can still use the LVF (which I can’t do with a Top Handle fitted) . I was thinking that would be useful for the times when I don’t want to be arsed/restricted by setting up the gimbal. But anyway it improved the handling of my Gimbal (which was the original purpose) and it was only £30 so any other benefits will be a bonus! Take care!

0:07 Exceptional it is. I bought mine in Jan/2018, a short time after it was launched. I purchased the G9 along with the P/L 8-18, 12-60 and 50-200 lenses plus the TC-1.4 over the past 15 months. I could not be more delighted. I also picked up a Sigma 16mm f/1.4 for low light situations which I also like very much. The TC-1.4 is not available for purchase new by Panasonic in the US so I got a used one from MPB. It gets me out to 280mm at f/5.6 (560mm FF equiv.) on the 50-200 and only weighs 4 ounces more. This whole kit weighs only 55% of my similar D750 kit. I intended the kit for travel but I have found I just don’t reach for my D750s much anymore. I am interested to know if you had any issues with dust with your 100-400 as I am aware that initially some people were having issues with it and Panasonic would not or could not repair it. Under warranty they would replace it but after the warranty expired it would be problematic. My travel photos rival my D750 images so I am very pleased with the kit. Thanks for the video.
@CreativeConnor
@CreativeConnor 4 года назад
Deadly Gary!! hows that 50-200?? I've never used it 😍 The system is brilliant and I look forward to many more years of use and joy from mine 😇 I don't have any dust in the big zoom. I know earlier productions certainly had a few issues and zooms tend to suck stuff in with the negative pressure inside the lens but mines been fine! I've heard some funny stories about the mount breaking but again not sure how people treated the lenses to have that happen. I never leave mine on the body while in transit ever (with any lens and camera). I adore the lens though! It blows me away😃

@garydubberly6608 4 года назад
Connor Dunne The 50-200 is a pleasure to use and produces beautiful images even with the TC-1.4 attached. The stabilization works very well even at the max distance of 280mm (560mm FF equiv.) At this point I don’t see a need to get the 200mm with my current combination working so well and of course the 50-200 is much lighter. Thanks for the reply.

I love my G9! Panasonic's menu system is head and shoulders easier and better than all others. I shoot real estate mostly and find it so easy to carry to a photo shoot. Some shots can only be hand held, so the superb image stabilization comes into play. The dynamic range comes very close to the best aps-c cameras from Sony and Fuji! Neither of which are as good with video stabilization. Yes it is 2 years old, but still great in 2020!

I'd never say the dynamic range on the G9 comes close to any Fuji or Sony APS-C camera, in fact there's a whole world between them. I am currenlty using the old X-T2 and I can recover an underexposed image from -4EV without any issue (low noise and still very good quality), while my G9 (which overall is a superb camera) at ISO 200 struggles even with moderate shadows and the result is noisier and less detailed.

I’ve just bought the g9 with Leica 100-400 a few days ago, my first m4/3 camera as I’m on sony a7iii for portraits and events. Just wanted to go intro wildlife photography in my spare time and I had a choice to make, sony 200-600 whis is double the weight and size or a m4/3 system with a bit more reach so here I am with a g9 for my wildlife needs. Playing around with it for a couple of days, here are my thoughts: ergonomics are awesome, buttons, ease of use, customisation , gorgeous eve, fully articulated touch screen, stabilisation and the af is pretty great also. The 100-400’s zoom is quite stiff and I don’t like it, also quite soft at 400mm and g9’s iso performance coming from a full frame camera isn’t great… i really want to love this system for wildlife, but I’ve paid £1670 for body and lens and i can get the sony 200-600 for £1400 so now I’m thinking of returning them to get the sony even though is heavier and bigger. Wise words, well said. Having switched from Canon FF to m43 about a year ago I first went with the GH5. Just wanted to do "more video". And never did 😂 But great lenses and size/weight/price performance was unmatched so I sticked to the GH5 happily. And then the G9 FW2.0 came and I couldn't hardly believe. Panasonic almost upped the formerly photocentric G9 to the level of a GH5 and even improved AF... So guess what? Picked up a G9 for a ridiciously low price and ever since I'm asking myself what to keep the GH5 for 😂... (I know: unlimited recording times, waveform, synchro scan, etc.... Great for the pros, which I'm not...)

@@CreativeConnor haha, gotta be creative with the naming.. ^^ Appreciate you took the time to respond 👍 you're right, although a lot but still the G9 can't offer everything. Me personally I very much enjoy the G9s HighRes mode, especially in conjunction with the bright and superbly sharp Oly 8mm/f1.8 lens. Defished and cropped in post, based on 80MP raw resolution, this combo offers such a variety of use cases at a brilliant noise and dynamic range level (due to 8 stacked images!). Keep on enjoying your equipment as much as I keep on enjoying your channel, good on'ya mate 😀👍🍻

I have a G80 and love it, I want 4k 10bit but I'm not in a rush. I have the 45-200 but would like more of a "super" telephoto lens for wildlife shots so would be spending on that rather than a new camera body. If a successor to the G9 comes out this year I might get it next year when the price has dipped a bit. Panasonic cameras are incredible value. For the price of a G9 it's very hard to do better, and at the cheaper level I think it's very hard to do better than a G80 with the price they're going for on ebay these days

I had a G85 and sold it to get an XT3 for the excellent video and eye AF. Was thinking about selling it to get the G9 with Leica 12-60. I really like the video quality on the XT3 but it bothers me that they dont have any parfocal lenses unless you go with the Cine line up which is too much for me. With Lumix they have the 12-35 and 12-60 at reasonable costs.

I just picked up the 12-60 leica panasonic lens and it's really great! Build quality is amazing and the parfocal nature is such a bonus. Not sure they meant it considering it wasn't marketed as such but a class end result for the users!!

Bought the G9 in anticipation of the 2.0 upgrade and, like yourself, got a great deal... but still very much learning as my original camera was a Nikon D800 and I want to make videos in a better way. I (think) I love it, but it's taking a while to understand the new terminologies of sound and moving vision. Regarding further upgrades to the G9's firmware... given that this camera is now as 'old' as it is and having this great new upgrade, do you really think it likely that there'll be any further goodies like 2.0? I'd love to think there might be, but I suspect new models are more likely than firmware upgrades now. Not a cynic, just a realist. Thanks for posting this, it's nice to have my choice validated! By the way, you didn't mention the G9's unparallelled customisability in both video and stills modes. Just saying, like. :-)

Late to the video, but am checking out the G9 simply for pricepoint while waiting on the A7IV to drop. James Popsys has long been a G9 herald (also using the S5). Thanks for the review... will probably hold out for the Sony with the Tammy 28-200 or snag a used A7RIII, but the G9's form factor is so outstanding. Wish they'd move on from DFD.

When they started discounting mid-November, I made the leap and got a virtually new G9 (boxed completely unmarked sub-1000 actuations) for £719 with full manufacturer's warranty. It is markedly better than the Gx8, both in terms of IQ and useability (comfier grip, easier to use for longer periods despite being 170g heavier, great adjustable evf-glasses wearers rejoice!)

I use the G9 with the Panasonic-Leica100-400mm lens. I have not yet updated to firmware 2.0 but plan to soon. I also concluded that a full-frame Sony A7iii, A9 or A7riii with prime lenses might fill out my creative program needs....... I own different size screwdrivers and hammers, too.

LOL! William, you're dead right with that last point! It's the truth. I think people get themselves stuck on particular brands and don't look elsewhere! They all have pros and cons and if you can mix and match you really do get the best of everything. It might not be within everyone's budget and I appreciate that. But for someone looking to cover all bases going with a setup like this spanning different manufactures, sensors, and glass is a brilliantly powerful kit to build-out

I'm torn between the G9 and G90/95. The G90 ticks almost all the boxes but it has this 4K crop. On the other hand it's a lot cheaper where I live and as I'm not sure how often I would use it maybe it's the right choice. But then we have the firmware update that makes the G9 an even greater camera for the money that is hard to resist. What does worry me though which relates to both cameras is that it seems difficult to achieve a decent shallow DOF. Is that because of the sensor? The scene where I intend to use the camera the most does not allow long lenses.

Hey! It;s a marvelous camera but if you need more reliable focus try find a camera with phase detect & contrast auto focus... Sony, Fuji, Canon and Nilon all have better performance. Hey Alistair thanks for the comment! Getting a G9 is just such a good investment. The output is Fabulous. That ain't going to change anytime soon. Even if Lumix brough out a new m43 g10 with more megapixels I don't think it'd be enough to make me consider upgrading. You're in fine hands with this system and the value is incredible currently. If video is your main concern the GH5 is a better bet. If you will be doing any stills at all as well then the G9 is best and does the video excellently. The only issue I have with the G9 slowmo is it's camera controlled, the GH5 lets your control shutter, iso and picture profile settings.. G9 won't.🤓

Excellent video. Kind of the reverse of my own "progression" from m4/3 to Sony full frame but with zoom! Do you find the 10-bit codec in HLG makes a difference? Why the 55mm f/1.8 versus one of the various 50mm f/1.4 lenses, seeing as you picked the best wide and portrait lenses?
@CreativeConnor
@CreativeConnor 4 года назад
Howiyah PJ! "reverse of my own "progression" from m4/3 to Sony full-frame but with zoom" - LOL 😂😎 I do find the 10bit files substantially better to work with.. hard to get it across on youtube with the compression. And the lenses for my A7iii: when I bought it originally the 24mm wasn't released and the SIgma was really hard to find in Ireland, so I got the kit lens and the 55 so I had a fast prime for interviews. Then I fleshed out the lineup. I also have the Samyang 35mm T1.5 manual cine lens that I rig up with a follow focus when I need to! What do you use?
@pj_mckenna
@pj_mckenna 4 года назад
@@CreativeConnor I use(d) Panasonic G80 (!) and various mostly Olympus lenses. I was dissatisfied with the low-light results and I found it a bit difficult to decently pull focus reliably and continuous AF was painful. I was torn between the G9 and trying out what Sony had to offer. When the A7iii and Tamron 28-75 f/2.8 combination appeared it seemed like a good bet. If only I could merge the Sony sensor and AF with the rest of what the G9 now has to offer I'd be content. At the time Olympus seemed intent on addressing a market I wasn't part of - the value proposition just wasn't there. I really need to rationalize my setup. I have done recordings in theaters etc that were so dim as to need the larger-aperture m4/3 primes but so often you can't choose where to place yourself that I end up working around the system's limits more than I'd like. No matter how good a f/1.2 m4/3 lens is, the value argument became less convincing.
@CreativeConnor
@CreativeConnor 4 года назад
I get you PJ! The lens can best as fast a.9 but the sensor needs to help it out. The thing I think is good to remember is that tech in sensors will improve for light sensitivity over the coming years on M43 so a good lens will last a few bodies. Even with the A7iii and 24mm f1.4 there are still limitations and nothing is better than good lighting.
