Do you know what a Bridge Camera is? Let Joe Herman tell you in this review of the Panasonic Lumix FZ2500, also known in some countries as the FZ2000. It's a very special camera, and quite possibly THE BEST camera value for those who want to shoot great professional video, make creative low-budget movies, vlogging and be able to take amazing photos as well.
The FZ2500 is a bridge camera, which means that it has a fixed lens. In this case, a 24mm to 480 lens. It is a high quality lens and it could be the only lens you'll ever really need whether you are shooting wide or telephoto. That is what a bridge camera is all about. If you don't plan on buying lots of lenses, Simply get a bridge camera and start shooting.
However, what makes the FZ2500 really stand apart is its amazing professional video and filmmaking capabilities which include built in ND filters, DCI 4K, true 24p as well as the ability to shoot in Log-C for advanced color grading capabilities. The camera also has clean 4:2:2 10-bit HDMI out for recording externally.
There is a lot more that makes the camera great, such as a high quality OLED touch screen that can flip out and turn 180 degrees, something critical for vlogging. Whether you make videos for RU-vid, are a photographer or want to make your own movie, the Panasonic Lumix FZ2500 is a camera you should check out.
It's also a great choice for animators, visual effects artists, motion graphics artist or experimental filmmakers.

Sounds like a good one for the bucks. The only drawback for me is that I need an ultra wide angle (at least 16mm ... preferably 12mm) to shoot interiors of homes for real estate. Do you know of a wide angle converter available for this that would do that? Thanks, Chuck : +)

Hi , Thanks for the review. Years and months after how do you compare this camera with other rivals in the same 1"-20MP Sensor - Bridge/Superzoom? Can you make a review comparing features, video and stills quality for: - Canon Powershot G3 X (it's a mark II is coming?) - Panasonic Lumix FZ1000 mark II / Leica V-Lux 5 - Panasonic Lumix FZ2000/2500 (3000/3500 soon?) - Sony RX10 Mark IV (Mark V soon?) Do you know if other companies like Nikon will upgrade their offer with cameras in the same range? Like a Nikon Coolpix CX (1" sensor), or a coolpix B800 CX sensor? Other companies see to have give up for this segment : Fuji, Pentax, Olympus... Thanks.

Hi! Can this camera record while using the clean HDMI OUT? I'm asking this because the Panasonic FZ 1000 and FZ 1000 II, when you connect it to a monitor or video mixer (using its HDMI connector), the cammera cannot record on the SD card in the same time. Thanks!

Enjoyed your video. The English fellow's name is Graham Hutton. His teaching videos have helped me a lot. My interest is more with the stills side. My hope is that Panasonic will soon come out with a future Fz2500 mark 2 that has a lens equal to the Sony's Zeiss one on their RX10 bridge camera. Keep the ND filters & the internal zooming & articulating - integrated touch screen. Pull some of the features off of the G9 - like 6K photo modes, accessory eye cup, weather sealed, keep the play-back on the right side . . . well - Panasonic just contact me if you need any more specifics.

Graham Houghton does brilliant in depth reviews and tutorials on panasonic cameras. He deserves the shout out you gave him. I have the FZ 1000 and 2000 (as it is called here in the UK). Any news on a FZ 2000 mk2? The 1000 mk2 is a big disappointment... actually I thought the FZ 2000/2500 was the replacement for the 1000 (apparently not). And why is it the FZ 2000 or FZ 2500 depending on region but only the FZ 1000 despite region? lol.

I am seriously thinking about buying this camera in 10 days. At 6:02, what are the icons on the left side of the camera dial for? What do they do? 3 questions: 1) Can I manually focus the lens? 2) In the P mode, the camera will automatically adjust the aperture and shutter speed, right? 3) using this camera for nature photography, if my hand accidently presses a button on the back, all I have to do to fix it is shut the camera off and turn it back on, right? Thank you.

Hi there and thank you for your questions. Sorry for the delay. Information about those icons can be found here: www.manualslib.com/manual/1220379/Panasonic-Dmc-Fz2500.html?page=113#manual 1) Yes, manual focus is available. 2) Yes, you are correct. 3) It depends which button. Most of the time, yes. However sometimes you need to go into the menu settings.

"bridge camera" as it "bridges" a regular film camera with the crazy "digital as film" mania...both with interchangeable lens. Love my FZ-80. This is a nice step up once you start learning about all that digital can in fact do. I think in that sense it is a "bridge camera" as well meaning it's an entry into the seemingly infinite possibilities of digital camera work making such work far more intuitive and simple and yes, perfect RU-vid Camera as well.

I am thinking about upgrading from my FZ300 to this camera. Is the lens sharper, and is the focus more accurate? Are the photos better than with the FZ300? The FZ300 takes great video but is not that good on still pictures, so with the FZ2500 will I see a difference in the photo quality?
@Joeherman
@Joeherman 5 лет назад
Hi there, i really don't have much experience with the FZ300 but i would assume that the FZ2500 is better because it is more of a premium camera. You can check out the examples in the video and look around to see if anyone has done side by side comparisons. Cheers, and good luck.

Bridge camera is a term that originally was used about any SLR-styled camera that bridge the gap between smaller compact cameras and larger system cameras, also in terms of potential zoom range as well as styling. Panasonic has really been the most dominant player in the market category with the great great great grandfather of the FZ2500, the FZ10, for instance. While they are superzoom cameras, you also get superzoom compacts that are not bridge cameras (styling matters), and I quite like the term SLR replacement or - more accurately these days - system camera replacement, since that is really what it is. With advances in technology, lenses can be made brighter, with larger zoom ranges, and more compact optical designs, allowing for larger sensors than in the bridge cameras of yore (FZ10 had a 1/2.5" sensor, for instance, which in physical size is to the 1" of the FZ2500 what 4/3" is to 35mm full frame). Even if you have a compact mirrorless system with two or three lenses, you are quickly carrying more weight or bulk with less convenience than if you have a camera like the Panasonic FZ1000 or FZ2000/2500, and - if you want something compact with interchangeable lenses, you also have the discomfort of larger lenses not being balanced to the camera body. Bridge cameras with their all-in-one designs and SLR style bodies and generously sized hand grips are well-balanced, and covers most practical uses one might have for a camera. I had been using M43 system cameras basically since they were announced, but at some point I just swapped to a Panasonic FZ1000 as that is so much more practical. Later I also realised it isn't half bad for video, though the FZ2500 is a notch better since the only limit on 4K video recording length is the memory card and not the 30 minutes of the FZ1000. I like recording long videos, so the 30 minute limit actually gets in my way sometimes, but I will live with it until I have to replace my camera, when a used FZ2500 is probably one of my best options right now.

Depends if you want to shoot 4K which can be useful for cropping later even if the final project is HD. (However you will need more memory). Otherwise shoot at HD which besides taking less memory has slightly less crop and offers better stabilization when shooting.

Hi, in 2005 I had my first "bridge-camera" and it is certainly not because they bridge between video and photo, as mine at that time (Sony cybershot f828) had very poor video performance (640x480)! I was for a long time happy with the 8 mp it had, but of course this Lumix is way better!

1. Once the barrel has extended, the zooming is done within it. 2. Although nominally 480mm max it can go to 960mm without loss of image quality. 3 Side entry for the SD card - no faffing around having to remove the tripod fitting.

Extra Optical Zoom can increase the zoom range to 960mm but only with shooting jpeg - not in RAW. Also it only works when the picture size is set at med or small ( extra sensor pixels are then available for enlarging the image )

You're absolutely right to object to the term "bridge" camera -- it suggests that they're "poor relations" to the Nikon/Canon DSLR/mirrorless "aristocracy." Even if my specialty wasn't no-flash low-light action photography -- and even if I had DSLR/mirrorless money -- I'm not interested in swapping lenses. After kicking Nikon AND Canon fixed lens digital cameras (a more accurate term) to the curb, my "mere peasant" of a Panasonic FZ80 and I have been getting along just fine because of its 5-step exposure compensation and 2.8 maximum aperture. Bridge cameras can be "destination" cameras, too!

@Joeherman
@Joeherman 5 лет назад
Thank you for your comment. While I do agree that it is not exactly a small camera, the weight is comparable (if not lighter) than, say, a Canon or a Nikon with a big zoom lens. It is also smaller and more portable than a pro video camera. It all sort of depends on how you look at it.
@rayjenkins2754
@rayjenkins2754 5 лет назад
For my Fz2500 I've built a mini mono-pod that screws into the camera & the length is adjustable. By resting the bottom end against my torso, it takes care of the weight issue and also makes the camera steadier.

4k 60fps would be great! Right now you'd need a G9 or GH5, with multiple lenses and ND filters. The cost would be $2500+. I have the autel evo drone and osmo pocket for 4k 60fps. I'm thinking of buying the fz2500 and a gimbal so I can add different types of shots to my videos in terms of focal length and blurring the background behind subjects. If any 4k slow motion is needed, I'll use the osmo pocket. I'm not spending $2500.

When the FZ2500 was announced, I was super excited by its new features. However to date, I have hesitated to upgrade to the FZ2500 because some reviewers gave it bad press as regards the newer lens. At 9:22 in your footage, the 100% at 4K displays a definite softness at per-pixel level (compared to my FZ1000). Have you found any serious issues in your experience? Does it track focus well throughout the zoom range? I am still drawn to it, 10bit HDMI on the output, touch-sensitive screen and Vlog shooting to name just a few features. I am aware of Graham Hutton's channel, and will revisit it. Thanks for your efforts 👍
