I've never planed to get 24mm prime, since I prefer zoom for wide angle, but this 24/1.8 color looks glorious and weather sealed. Sigma 28-70 & two 24mm primes are not WR, and Panny's own 16-35mm & 24-70mm are too big/heavy/expensive. Regarding all Lumix primes, perhaps I may get 24-35-50mm.

Hey Richard, thanks for the video. Would you advise for this combo for live streaming (with OBS) especially in regards to autofocus/locking perf (AFC also)? I was looking at the A7c but it seems to be artificially castrated feature-wise. Also, can you have controls from the smartphone and at the same time AF working?

Hi Richard, I'm loving my S5 with 20-60 and 50f1.8 but recently felt I needed a bit longer range for my portraits and landscape. I'm not sure if I should get the 24-105 or the 85f1.8? What's your thoughts? A sigma 100-400 is also on the cards if a good second hand one pops up and funds allow. Thanks, love the videos, great to understand with quality content!

great video, excellent lens! I can appreciate you also providing comparison to other lens in a similar class with sharpness and colors. It really helps as these lens are quite similar especially in size. As far as the lens manufacture, it doesn't feel like the community is being heard or listened to. The price of lens seems out of touch and not to mention the size of lens is so much larger than it has to be. It's slightly saddening that they are pricing it this way especially when the auto-focus system does not hold a candle to other focus systems. We hope they will continue to improve their algorithms to take advantage of the new technology. However for this 24 and the short comings of the L system, the $ of lens is far out and doesn't match what you receive. I thank you for making this video and look forward to future videos!

Hi Richard. i have the same plan. I've the 50mm F1.8 and thinking of getting the 24mm F1.8. This covers my needs.

I was wondering. This series you can use without re-balancing a gimbal. Is it also possible to combine the 20 to 60 until 24mm in combination with the 1.8 lenses without re-balancing the gimbal? The size and weight seems to be more or less similar. Has anyone tried this?

I’m trying to understand why it cost so much more compared to the 85mm and the 50mm. They’re all turning out to great lenses.

for videos at my desk , like vlogging. do you think the 20-60 vs the 24 prime? Price wise i can pickup the 20-60 for about half the price. I own the 50mm prime already. So do you think for half the price the 20-60 is worth it or better off spending the extra for 24mm? thanks... ps or any other lens close to 20 ish mm range suggestions. cheers

I have the 85mm will buy this one and 35, I already own the 50mm pro.

I’ve been using my Canon adapted EF 35mm F2.0 IS lens. It to has a filter thread of 67mm. IMHO the IQ is quite good.

I am enjoying the Pana Prov50mm f1.4 wide open on my S1r much more than the S 50mm f1.8. I have the 85mm and it resolves well; but would like a Pro copy. However, if I chose to abandon my M43 system for the S5, then these primes would bd the way to go for size, wgt and ergo. Chromatic issues are there and I’m not much of a post pr’ so I appreciate in camera correction and good glass. I am disappointed at the price of the 24mm didn’t yield better performance at f1.8. Perhaps COVID pricing finally caught up with lens retail. Look to adapting Canon EF 35mm f2 IS lens. It resolves well for the S1R and AF w/o hunting.

Good review. Would a landscape shot be better for f1.8 corner sharpness test instead of a closer brick wall, just to avoid defocus effect vs unsharp @ 1.8

Currently have the 50mm. Had the 85mm but returned it because I didn’t like the IQ.

I plan to get the Panasonic S5 II bundled with the Panasonic 50mm f/1.8 next month (buying it like this makes the 50mm lens cost just 200 Euro which is more than 50% OFF) I have the 20-60mm f/3.5-5.6mm from my S5 I and the 35mm f/1.8 which I like very much. Since I want to take photos in a nightclub scenario where I need the f/1.8 and wider focal length than 35mm I plan to get either the 24mm or the 18mm f/1.8 I can not make a decision yet. Hopefully Black Friday discounts make it easier for me lol If you had to take photos in night clubs and you already had the 35mm which one would you chose? The 24mm or the 18mm?

Panasonic does not meet deadlines. They announced a year ago and no lenses are available for sale. Only for RU-vidrs .... What about the 35mm 1.8? thank you for the share

the 24 seem soft compared to nikkor lens :( make me hesitate between lumix s5 and nikon z6

For the price, the distortion and center sharpness wide open are definitely lacking. Especially the distortion. I can understand if a zoom has this amount of distortion at the wide end, but a prime at this price point is unacceptable. LoCA is definitely disappointing as well.

You could try tracking mode (tracker) for continuous AF while vlogging. That AFC mode works really great on S series Panasonic cams and GH5S.

Did u shoot this at 24fps or 30fps? Looks like 30

it seems you are pushing this codec to its maximum in grading..the sky/clouds got patches everywhere :/

At 5:00 the distortion is massive. I would hope that is getting corrected in the camera in video mode? EDIT: OK, the answer is at 8:20. Maybe reverse that order in the next video to address distortion first so people like me aren't wondering. ;)
