This lens is in my wish list for when I can afford to upgrade to a Lumix. Great focal length for an everyday carry around. Right now I have a sigma 17-70 f2.8 macro that lives on my Nikon d3100. Unfortunately they don't make that kens in L-mount. Tamron has one, but without the macro. I find myself mostly shooting in the 17-23 or 30mm range.

Hey Devon! This Video made me rethink this hole system as I am switching from MFT to Full Frame. It's so insane what you can get with this "ultra wide" lens. Just imagine: If you use an lets say 24-70 lens you can crop apsc or pixel/pixel aswell but you'll never be able to get that ultra wide fov as with the 16-35mm. If the 16-35mm werent that expensive though :D Maybe the Canon 16-35 with an EF-L Adapter would be an cheaper option

Hey! I have just got a used copy of this wonderful lens from B&H, but I wonder: The front element wobble a little bit. Is it normal on this lens? Best regards from Norway.

Nothing should wobble on the physical lens. The in camera ibis will make the corners of the footage wobble if you walk with it so definitely shut it off and stabilize in post for that.

What I ment was: the front of the lens feels a little bit to loose, not precise, but I know that this is normal (different construction methods) for some lenses. Like I said, I bought a used copy of this wonderful lens from B&H. It looks great, with no sign of use. But I am a little bit conserned. What do you think?

It’s not hard, just go in the menu select super 35 / apc in video. Or you can shoot 4k 60 and it auto does it.

Hi, i love your videos, great job. If i am not missing something completly and understood correctly what pixel/pixel does i think the crop factor of 2x you are talking about is wrong. With a 6k sensor its more a 3,13 factor (3384 / 1080 = 3.13). To proove that i did a test with my S5 and the 24-70 Sigma lens. I get the exact same field of view when i am using these settings: 50mm in apsc mode and 24mm in pixel/pixel. 50 mm in apsc with a factor of 1.5 is 75 ff eqv and 24mm in pixel/pixel with a factor of 3.13 is 75 ff eqv as well. When i am in ff mode and zoom all the way in to 70mm the field of view is slightly wider than in pixel / pixel and 24mm. That matches because in my calculation 24mm in pixel/pixel is 75mm as described above. If i am not wrong this would make that lens and the system itself even more versatile - 16mm to 109mm depending on the mode you are using.

Thank you firstly :) That could be the case, I remember being told that it uses a micro 4/3 size but never did down to the wire testing it did look pretty close to 2x though. Good findings if you are correct.

That Footage looks amazing! Which profile did you use? So far from what I've seen the new Cinelike D2 footage looks amazing. How does it compare to the "old" version on the S1?

luisneumannp It’s a mix, The opening sequence was shot all in V-Log C4k then I color graded it. Me talking was in Natural with contrast turn down in 1080p all-I and then graded. All the comparisons were shot in natural with the contrast turned down with no grading.

Log for the intro video with grading 400mps All-i C4k 10 bit 1080p natural with color grade on the talking. natural with contrast down by 5 on all the test shots.

Point was unless you needed the drop to F2.8 you actually get a 24-70mm in this lens when you shoot super 35 mode

Thanks for this video! I have a custom button set to my favorite record formats so I can punch in real quick like this. Is there a way to punch in (or set a custom function button) for photos, not just video shooting?

Jason Rankin negative, though the sensor is effectively using less mega pixels when it crops in. Just cropping a photo in post is kinda the equivalently this, there is no way to do it in camera to my knowledge.

Allen Alcantara A few questions and I can better help you figure out that answer. How important is autofocus to you? What projects projects can you product yourself doing in the long term and short term? Example: Real estate, weddings, ect...

The Raven Studio autofocus is important! I do a lot of run and gun doc style video work + portraits on the photo side. Was thinking the 16-35 would be good for any vlog style content and the sigma 24-70 could be a good work horse lens, but I’d prefer just to have that one lens lol. I also have the 20mm kit lens that came with the S5 which is good enough for getting wider than a 24. THANKS FOR THE HELP

Allen Alcantara I feel this, so definitely aim to get all of the Lumix Lenses if you want the best autofocus. Then decide which lens is going to help you make the most money. While Vlogging isn’t ideal one the 24-70 it is doable especially if you go with a more of a sit the camera down kinda style. At the same time as shown in the video as long as you don’t need crazy reach with 60fps you can use the crop factor to your advantage on the 16-35mm. But money wise 16mm is only making you money if you are selling landscape at a high rate or doing real estate.

Same field of view unless you shoot 4k 60 or 1080p 120fps then it goes to Super 35/ APSC crop. I'll make a new test soon.

I'm a GH5 user and the 4K 60 APC crop in the S5 put me off migrating to the Panasonic Full Frame models. To be clear, using the S5 with the 16-35mm lens in 4k 60 (with APS Crop will represent 24mm ) and will therefore be equivalent to using the GH5 in 4K 60 with the MFT 12mm lens?

Mighty Tripod Acting Studio The S5 is very interesting, though I would say if you are evenly split between event photography, and Want to have a cinema Esq, camera the SH1 is where it’s at. The S5 can definitely do it, but the burst rate on the photos it’s great for a lot of motion, and there are a few limits in video that are nice unlocked on the S1H. That being said if you need some good glass as well from what I can tell the S5 isn’t a bad option.
