I just want to say thank you for your awesome video. I was able to fix my drive watching you video. Unfortunately the 3D printed tray and rails didn't wok for me. I had to buy a 2nd hand old Panasonic DVD player and migrate the rails and tray from it. I also had the problem that the recommended belt is too loose. What the hell?! I bought a smaller belt. I found an O-ring from an auto part store in my town with the right measures! Yeah! Then I installed a qoob pro and flashed iplboot on it, so I don't need to use the Drive anymore! It's just for display purposes! Thanks!
Good stuff. Glad to hear and thank you for your kind words. Out of curiosity, what is the model number of the old Panasonic DVD player you used the parts from?
@@nermaldigital there is a model on Japan: Panasonic DVD-XP50 which uses the same drive as the Q with minor differences! Retro Refurb doesn't seem to sell these 3D parts anymore =/
Hello, I was watching your previous videos in this series as I was going through the same pain as you and didn’t see you had finished it! Very well done 👏🏻 I still need to go back into mine and finish fixing mine. I’ve added a couple of extra things to mine if you’re interested, let me know
Great video. My PQ needs a service too, what with the rails crumbling away (like vintage cheddar) with each passing year. I have actually changed the laser on a RG-M1 WonderMega, but fear delving into the PQ - given it still works, with the occassional hesitation ejecting the tray. I have found touch up paint for Macbooks (available on eBay) works well for touching up minor nicks on the panels, and then blending that it (gently) using Meguiars Ultimate Compound or PlastX.
Thanks for getting in touch. oooo a WonderMega, what an awesome piece of hardware. I haven’t even got a Multi-Mega in my hardware library and do want one. Thanks for the tip on the paintwork, I will look into this. I do intend to continue the restoration, like replace the cooling fan, new front. Maybe even one day try and integrate the correct voltage step down in the main system. One day though.
@@nermaldigital I'd be interested to know if there's a way to upgrade the stock fan - it's the second PQ I have owned since they launched, and both have had noisy bearings. I remember getting the RAM chips (bank of 2 made by Hynix) soldered into the DVD Board (has the blank space/points for them) to enable PAL DVD Movies on the first machine - a bit of a pointless task these days though.
I felt that pain so much the first time it didn't work. Ages ago I opened mine because I had an scratching disc issue. I fixed that, but the console had other issues afer that. Sent it back to Play-Asia who luckily fixed it. Now, after trying to boot after quite some years, I hope the rubber band is the only issue why the dvd-drive currently isn't opening ^^; (I also still feel the stress and disassembling and assembling a Q, phew...).
Hi Tom. One question. Some Q's like yours have the digital display on top with blue background light to match the blue leds on the controller ports. My Q has a white background light. Do you know if your Q has any blue layer cover on the plastic? Where does that blue color come from? Thanks
Congratulations on getting your Panasonic Q back in fully working condition. I had similar a problem with the drive after I replaced the rails on mine. I actually lightly sanded the rails where the tray slides to remove some of the 3D printed texture and it got my tray working. The belt on mine was hard and I replaced it with a SCX4.6 square belt. Didn’t think about trying a rubber band, awesome idea.
