Panasonic RF-3100 Treehouse DXpedition

Ciao Tom, excellent outdoor experience ... you only worked with the internal ferrite and the receiver's whip ... even a few meters of wire were enough to have more gain ... very nice your Panasonic ... Greetings from Italy. Giuseppe.

I got back into the hobby in 1982 when I purchased the Panasonic RF-3100. I had an old tube radio back in the 60's, so this was an improvement. It wasn't a DX machine, but I did log (and QSL) FIBS from the Falkland Islands on 3958 kHz as well as many other stations from around the world, I later moved on to Kenwood, Icom and Drake receivers. But the RF-3100 was a great radio.

A really cool setup up on the tree, with perhaps no or little interference. If you could set up an antenna up there, like the MLA30, SW would be booming..!!

Try it in the nighttime to get better reception. I wish Panny would bring it back.

I got one of them radios for a low price but mine drifts a little lots are up for sale on ebay but for silly money i got a grundig satellite 2100 no ssb but the shortwaves are verry good on it i like to listen to the broadcast stations on am sadly its not like the 70's lots have gone

Tom - What an excellent way to go on a mini-dxpedition! I like your RF-3100. I have one, too, but it’s been on the “injured list” for a couple of years. The FM and SW bands suddenly stopped working - ouch! However, the MW band still works! Hmmm … Even though my preferred DX band is the MW band, the radio takes up too much desk space for just one band. So, I’ve stowed the radio away for now. I’m looking forward to your video showing your upgraded local DX retreat (AKA backyard treehouse)!!
