Hey I definatly won't be buying this camera, initially I instantly thinking this is perfect. Until Gerald undone disclosed Panasonic is allowing creators to keep the camera and lens for free!!! (Now no hate or critisim to the creators, they didn't ask to keep the cameras it was Panasonics decision!). Therefore all of my critisim is leveled firmly at Panasonic and not at any content creators!. I refuse to give my hard earned money to a company that just gives out products for free and then expects customers to pay for them!. Therefore I will now purchase the song A7S3 because Sony required all A7S3 and even the much cheaper ZV-1 to be returned after reviews had been filmed, Sony knows it alienates customers so they don't do it neither do canon with the R5, R6 etc!. I will never purchase another Panasonic product ever again! Out of principal I'd rather spend more with Sony, it's a better camera also of course but ya nope unless Panasonic want to send me one free also I won't be buying one.

uh oh. there is story by F stoppers that Panasonic is telling regulators that its camera division has lost so much money, Panasonic is considering doing an "Olympus" get out of business move. If true, Panasonic camera is going belly up, not just 4.3 but the entire division.

I think they are not far off in price. e.g. The Sigma 24-70mm f2.8 L mount is the same price as the Sigma 24-70mm f2.8 E mount. The Sony FE 24-70mm f/2.8 GM Lens is MUCH more expensive than the Panasonic Lumix S PRO 24-70mm f/2.8 Lens depending in where you buy.

I’m keeping my GH5 too or switching to Sony. The Sony 50MM 1.4 is like $1498 VS the Lumix Brand 50MM 1.4 which is $2298. I hope Panasonic comes out with a GH6 soon. There is hope though there was an interview recently that indicated there will be a GH6

buy an adapter (with VND) and you can use other lenses. I'm planning on buying this S5 together with the fotodiox VND EF-L adapter and a 24-70 Sigma EF lens.

I know that canon has been known for their really good IBIS. Yet I've seen terrible wobbles on the new R5 and R6. Although we have to keep in mind that these are fullframe cameras, I think this S5 and panasonics IBIS holds up way better! I barely noticed any wobbles in your tests at 6:35

good review. and yes, I don't think i'd jump into this without first seeing what they're going to do with the gh6, and i'm a gh5 owner. the record limitation in 60 is a problem for me since i record bands and they tend to go 40 minutes for a set, minimum. as for low light, hey I got lights for the gh5 when there is that problem, generally. the gh5 as you said has more choice with codecs and unlimited recording, and stabilization is actually a tad better. the micro hdmi is also a negative. as for AF. well................I've found that its a problem for 24 and 30 but when I shoot 60, 8 bit on the 5, the AF is much much much better. I'm not so sure the FF sensor on the 5 is really an advantage overall for video. Stills? wow. I bet this guy shoots great dynamic range stills, and that would definately be an upgrade to the gh5, which does okay with good glass, but it's not awesome. the FF on the S5 probably makes the camera a great all around machine. that's a definate improvement, but as you pointed out the glass, at least now is BIG, expensive, and Pan needs to vastly improve lens size and choices. the L mount "alliance' so far ain't all that impressive. I'm going to wait and see if they come out with a gh6, which is rumored to be announced soon. Based on what that turns out to be (41mp 4/3 eensor, time of flight AF, etc rumored),a gh6, and able to use all the 4/3 lenses we've invested in the past 3 years? well.......................it's a tough choice. by the way your baby daughter is absolutely soooo cute. You ought to enter her in a baby contest and win. LOL. thnx Marty of Marty Sender RU-vid. ps grew up in California, not there now, on E Coast, so nice to see the shots. I think one moonlit night I caught Grunion fish at the place you recorded.

Best review for someone coming from GH5 video, clearly raising exactly the 2 concerns I intuitively had: crop mode on 60p (my favorite in GH5, you can decide to slow down in postproduction) and the expensive lenses. Would be interested to get some more info how to deal with the Aps-c lenses. Also read that Panasonic is going to sell line of 1.8 prime lenses (24mm to 85mm, first to come in November) Do you have any idea of the price range?

Hey Jeven - first of all, absoltuely amazing quality you are pumping out! Love it! :D I am thinking of swapping from Sony a7 III to a sony a6600 with sigma primes, but this has caught my eye too (or the s1, not sure). What lenses would you recommend to pair with it? Do I get it with the kit lens? Or try to adapt prime lenses from another system? Really just looking for a fantastic content creation camera that will be a great investment. A bit about my story - I was going to downgrade to the a6600 with the sigma trio of 1.4 primes as that would give me sharp video - but the Panasonic options tend to have a better video quality to them (due to the 10bit), but the problem I'm having is lenses :D

(3:53) The S5 is a stills camera that can film video well, whereas the GH5 is a video camera that can take fairly good still images. I am guessing, unless Lumix comes out with an SH5, I don’t think full size HDMI is in the cards. It has more in common with the G9 instead… …

Hi when I film in C4K the file does not open in my editing timeline whereas when I film with S&Q mode it comes out normal

Jordan at DPreview mentioned that after the 30 min limit, he was able to shoot around 40 min in the sun. I wonder whether you can just constantly repress the record and without worry about the overheating like the gh5 when you are in a normal situation. Did you use a VR/OIS lens for the canyon walking shots?

Nice video... You could use the sigma 14-24 f/2,8 L mount.. that will fix the apsc or ff mode especially in vlogging.... :)

Did you keep the camera for free? I ask because if it's the case you should say it in the video. Anyway I agree with you, the system lens is not mature enough. You will use the a FF camera as an aps-c camera. But to me it's not a bad idea at all. Just with the price of the Panasonic 24-70 2.8 you can buy the whole aps-c sigma line. And you win that the rolling shutter is weaker in S35.

The apsc lenses I used had the l mount so they work natively. Hopefully the gh6 will be coming soon. Not sure their plans with that

I am shooting sports for web, our productions are released in 50P (HD or 1440P) and shot in UHD 50P or 2.7K50 - So, for me the S5 as an APS-C camera... and as such it really doesnt have much to offer that is really better than GH5... Hopping lots of people jump on this S5 so I can grab good deals on second hand m43 lenses haha. and most importantly I hope Panasonic will keep all the pro video features from GH5 to the successor, and add raw output. Camera companies aren't doing good though and i'm affraid panasonic investing so much in FF means they won't be able to invest so much in m43...

3 questions: 1) Does it have a 'Focus Transition' feature like the GH5 has? 2) Does it allow you to set separate ISO, shutter and aperture settings for video and photo? 3) Why doesn't anyone point out the HORRIBLE placement of the headphone jack??? Panasonic could have easily placed it further back so it doesn't get in the way of the flipping LCD screen. Some of their design engineers must be on crack!

No because it puts it into apsc mode. You can't shoot full frame with apsc lenses on the camera

Why would you buy apsc lenses and not just shoot in apsc mode on the full frame lenses? It doesn’t change the field of view by using an apsc lens.

Size and weight. APSC lenses are way smaller and make it a super portable camera. With the full frame lenses you have a much heavier setup and it fills more of your bag. I switched to Sony and they have a series of smaller and lighter lenses that are made for full frame. This camera has lots of good things about it but its not competitive when you put it up against the cameras and lenses that sony is putting out

@@JevenDovey I sold my Sony A7iii and replaced it with the S5 and couldn’t be happier. The new line of 1.8 lenses Panasonic just came out with are nice and small, lightweight and sharp. The colors are far superior in Panasonic in my opinion. All the major companies are making great cameras at this point though.

for me it isn't a FF camera since it can't record 50P in FF... It is an APSC video camera + a FF stills camera in one.

Except the gh5 has far more video features, an xlr interface for audio, dual high speed card slots, etc.....Other than being full frame and having raw, to a recorder mind you, its markedly inferior to the gh5

You can't call something a Full Frame GH5 without adjustment for Shutter Angle, lack of codecs and RECORD LIMITS (30 mins 4k 30&60fps.). The GH5 was and is a full-blown, nothing held back option that gives videographers full access to the hardware. The S5 is limited. I pray this is not the replacement for a GH6 and that you just got title happy again.

Sorry to say that, but I have already watched other reviews about this camera and it seems that on APC mode is where the camera performs its best regarding autofocus and in your tests you're using APC the majority of the time and cutting off the clips not in APC when the autofocus starts hunting.. It seems sort of bias and not honest review to my taste.. Northrup and Gerard Undone were very honest regarding to that and Northrup always let the autofocus hunting to let us see how the autofocus performs... I was one subscriber, sorry not anymore

I’m not so sure I agree that the S5 is the “Full Frame GH5”, I kinda think the Sony A7siii is more of the FF GH5 than the S5. Hear me out...... I currently shoot on the S1H, GH5s, Gh5, and I have a couple Sony A7iii’s for fun. The S5 does not record All-I, has recording time limits when shooting in 10bit, and has a micro hdmi port. It’s about to be 2021, who wants to shoot in 8bit, 4:2:0, an use a micro hdmi? I mean, c’mon! These are features that made the GH5 such a boss! And now you aren’t going to include these amazing features in your new “FF GH5”? Sounds like a bit of a rip. Sony is finally including all this in such a small compact body. The tech exists, it’s out there. The only benefit the S5 has over the GH series is that it’s full frame- everything else about it is “meh”.

The autofocus is just terrible. See the scene when you are with your baby, take a look to the technical panel behind you.... Just so terrible hunting all the time

Thats not really true. Because he has the sensitivity and speed on the max, the AF doesnt stick to him and keeps hunting. Also, you dont need AF-C when shooting studio talking head video. He pretty much set the camera to shoot wildlife, animals or objects that move really fast, so the camera keeps looking for new focal points. Just leave the camera set how it is out of the box, set the AF to eye/face detection and this problem will dissapear. Learn how to operate the camera and you will have good results. I have seen video of the S5 with different settings than his and it was locked on and didnt pulse at all. Also I own a G9 and the same applies to that camera as well.

Not saying you need to switch... just saying that it feels very much like a GH5 with a full frame sensor however there are limitations and reasons why you would stick with the GH5
