I’m trying to decide between Panda & Kumo rice cookers, but I find no comparison review. I like the idea of lower carb setting on kumo but not that bothered, the panda has a timer which is appealing for having porridge ready for breakfast. What other plus or minus between the two, I want something that is easy to keep clean, dishwasher safe parts?

Hi Richard, Please see here for a comparison of all the rice cookers we sell: yum-asia.com/uk/rice-cooker-comparison/ You can also compare specific cookers on our websites using the compare function to help you with this. Please note that none of our rice cooker parts are dishwasher safe. They are for hand wash only. The inner bowls are ceramic coated and very little sticks to them. Usually all that is needed is a wipe with a damp cloth to get it clean. The other parts are handwashed very easily too. Regards Yum Asia

Hello :) it says in the manual guide that I should expect 40 mins cooking time for the long grain function however the 10 minute timer starts after just 10-20 minutes of cooking. Is the cooker adjusting automatically or is something wrong?
@YumAsia
@YumAsia 2 года назад
Hi, the cooking times in the manual are approximate times - the actual cooking time is calculated by the fuzzy logic once cooking starts. The cooking time is influenced by several factors like how much rice is being cooked, how much water is in the bowl, how the rice absorbs water, ambient temperature etc. What you describe is normal because each type and batch of rice is different. We have more information about countdowns and displays here - yum-asia.com/uk/displays-and-countdowns/

Where it says ''10 minute countdown timer'' is that the total time it needs, or it just counts down the last 10 minutes?
@YumAsia
@YumAsia Год назад
Hi alaska, Panda countdown is for the last 10 minutes. The rice cooking time can take anywhere from 25-45 minutes depending on how much rice is being cooked etc. You can find out more information why we do a 10 minute (and not full) countdown here yum-asia.com/uk/displays-and-countdowns/

Hi! I'm planning to get this rice cooker. Does the porridge function work for congee? :)
@YumAsia
@YumAsia 2 года назад
Hi Sunko, the porridge function can be used for either congee/rice porridge or oat porridge. There are recipes in the manual for both

Are you supposed to leave the 'steam vent cap' on or take it out whenever making rice? It's removable, so I assume you remove it for reason(s) ?
@YumAsia
@YumAsia 7 месяцев назад
Hi. No. You only remove the steam vent cap to clean it (not during cooking)

Hi, I just received my rice cooker and I used it. But for my first use the rice was too soft. I put one cup of basmati rice and I use the graduation for the water which is 1. I guess I have to put less water next time. Can you give me some advice please?
@YumAsia
@YumAsia 2 года назад
Can you email us with details of the rice you are using (exact type and brand), if you washed the rice, what setting you used then we can help you further. It's very difficult to give support via you tube comments but it does sound like your rice needs less water or maybe it's already partially precooked/easy cook.

@@YumAsia My guess is, there is too much water. I used the long grain option. It's a French brand for basmati rice. If I need more specific advice I will email. Thank you for the quick answer! Very good product btw.
@MysteriousBeingOfLight

Do NOT ever use the graduation. Use a ratio of 1:1 and 1/2 cup for rice always.

Yum Asia, could you kindly please answer a question for me, about this panda model and its capacity, thanks. Is the 3.5 cups capacity also correct for white basmati rice, and they don't overflow the bowl/pot, since they expand more(grow longer and need more water than e.g jasmine white rice). I don't have a rice cup(180ml), but from a normal 500ml measurering cup and a scale, then found 180g uncooked basmati white rice is roughly 210ml in volume, which means a capacity of 3.5 rice-cups of 180ml (630ml total) is around 540g white basmati rice max, do you think that is correct for the panda i.e that it can cook roughly 540g white basmati rice? I need 500g capacity of white basmati rice personally, and don't know if can get by with the panda, or instead need e.g Sakura, as my first Yum Asia purchase. Thanks alot in advance.
@YumAsia
@YumAsia 2 года назад
Hi Martin, sorry RU-vid didn't notify us of your comment. The capacity of Panda at 3.5 cups is for any type of uncooked white rice. Basmati rice doesn't need more water in our rice cookers, there is one water level for white rice and this is used whether you are cooking jasmine or basmati rice. Rice cooker capacity isn't measured in grammes because different types of rice weigh different amounts, this is why a standard volume measurement is used so the rice volume and water volume match. I'd say from what you've described, you are right on the edge of Panda's maximum capacity and this doesn't give any flexibility for if you need to cook for other people.

At Sakura you point out in your advertising video that the inner lid is made of stainless steel, this is not mentioned in your video about Pandan so I assume that it is not stainless in Pandan, what material is it?
@YumAsia
@YumAsia 3 года назад
Hello Deje. Thank you for your interest. Panda's inner lid is made of coated aluminium. This coat is an inert clear silicon layer applied over the aluminium. The inner lid is thereby perfectly safe, non toxic. Most other rice cookers have an aluminium lid but only ours have this special coating. A stainless steel inner lid on this size design simply cannot work due to the weight of the steel.

Thanks for the answer, why do you write that you have free shipping to most countries in the EU, when there are only 4 countries this applies to, it feels like something you would find on Aliexpress, not from a serious trader.
@YumAsia
@YumAsia 3 года назад
@@dejedejsson Shipping rates are fluctuating wildly at the moment due to Covid, Brexit, exchange rates and vessel delays. It's almost a daily change. Please see our delivery page here www.yumasia.co.uk/delivery for the exact rate for shipping to your country. We have been established since 2006 and are certainly well recognised as having exceptional service and prices. Google is your friend here where you can find our very favourable reviews and historical service standards. Thank you again for your excellent questions and interest in Yum Asia!

How can free shipping fluctuate in price?
@YumAsia
@YumAsia 3 года назад
@@dejedejsson We offer free shipping to some European countries. The countries which we can offer free shipping to depends on the price at which the current rates are provided by couriers. Each country has different rates set by the courier and these rates fluctate between 10 euro and 50 euro depending and sometimes fluctuate on a weekly or even daily basis. If the rate increases too much it is simply too much for Yum Asia to absorb the entire cost. This is the way all businesses work. As explained in our last reply, logistics and shipping are incredibly variable at the moment because of a multitude of reasons which the industry has never in history experienced before. We continue to provide excellent prices to all of our customers across the UK and Europe and we hope the situation normalises to a more stable situation soon.

Hi. Is this good for one portion of rice for a meal. Whats the minimum amount of rice I can cook in this? I’m on my own so don’t want to buy a rice cooker if its too much rice.
@YumAsia
@YumAsia Год назад
Hi, it really depends on what you view as one portion because everyone eats rice differently. We advise you take what you usually cook and put this into a measuring jug and see how this corresponds to the 180ml cup size. You can cook a minimum of half a cup of rice which is 90ml.

There's an awful lot of cleaning to do once the rice is cooked, and not just the bowl. Surely the stainless steel steam vent on the lid will need cleaning else mould will grow?
