This is the basic pandesal recipe with butter, olive oil, canola oil and vegetable oil. I hope this will answer your questions about the type of oil that I use for my pandesal recipe.
The goal of this video is to show the similarities/differences when using different oils for pandesal. Find out which is the best oil for pandesal.

Pandesal Recipe:
1 cup of flour (+ a little extra on the side)
50 mL of evaporated milk
50 mL of water
2 tbsp of sugar
2 tbsp of canola oil
3/4 tsp of yeast + 1 tsp of sugar
1 tsp of salt
1 egg yolk
This is our daily bread. Our spiritual daily bread is:

Sir malalaman mo ang difference after a day or so, if the pandesal is still soft or not...Ksi may pandesal na after a day matigas na.

para sakin V good for health 😊mas softer and matagal shelf life compare sa B , pero malasa din naman sakin un B medyo mas mataas lang yata sa cholesterol kaya minsan lang ako mag kain 😊 thank u po for this video.

Magandang araw po! Ang galing naman, upto 3 days malambot pa? 2 days lang ang pinaka matagal saamin, kasi ubos na. Di ko pa nasusubukan to go beyond that. Interesting po ang sabi nyo, nakaka tuwa naman. Salamat po and God bless!

Kitchen sir,i did double your recipe kaya marami kc mahilig kami sa tinapay we dis have a small bakery business before sa pinas naclosed na dahil kaming mag asawa nag abroad na una sa saudi wala na magdala but i dont know how to bake when i was in saudi thats the time i learned baking then nagmigrate kmi sa canada then i started learning back in baking til i was watching chef Rv manabat and your channel and the rests of the posting from other chef.Tjanks for sharing tour recipe sa lahat ng pndesal sau na recipe ang masarap at malambot khit3days na i did tried that.

Wow. New subscriber here. You really take the trouble to show the difference. Also seen the other video between Bread Flour and All Purpose Flour. Also the video on the Mini Toaster Oven was very informative. I have one that have no temperature function, only heat from top, bottom and top with bottom. Don't know how to use it. Burnt my bread the first time I used it. 👍👍💞

Try Pandesal test with and without tangzhong paste (45g flour + 125 ml water in pan).

Nice test. I use primarily V. I’ve tried B but preferred V. Have you tried making Pandesal with baking powder or baking soda instead of yeast? There’s a shortage of yeast in our area. Salamat ulit.

Hi! Can you test what temperature of butter suites best for bread? (Softened butter, melted butter, or brown butter)

Magandang araw po! It really depends on what you are trying to make, some recipes call for softened butter, some call for melted butter. But for this pandesal recipe, I found out that softened butter works best rather than fully melted butter. I am not a pro, but that is what we find best for us. God bless!

Yes po, sometimes I do that kapag nauubusan kami ng fresh milk. Minsan naman evaporated milk, half evap and half water, pwede din. For the proportion, nilalasahan ko ang mixture, kapag nalasahan ko na ang gatas, ok na sya for me. I don't know the exact measurement dito pasensya na po. God bless!

Butter will always win when it comes to taste, especially if you use european butter (80% fat). Using oil will change the texture a bit with no significant change in taste, it's also very cost-effective. Traditional pandesal is made with lard and has the best texture. I suggest you use both butter and lard to get the best balance of texture and flavor. Stay away from using shortening or some margarine since it has the most unhealthy fat in it.

Magandang araw po! I have read bad things about margarine, so we do not have those at home. We only use butter or canola oil in baking bread. Odd times we use lard/shortening, but normally we use canola. Tanks for the tip, I will definitely try to combine butter and lard when I have the chance. God bless!

Naku ha sir Rich, bumili ako at natry ko na yung pandesal mo na may canola oil. Laki nga ng nabili namin, at marami pang natira. So canola muna ako😂 besides nung ginawa ko nga first time wala akong bread crumbs. Niloko tuloy ako ng niece ko gawin na daw pan de coco kasi nga bilog na pandesal ginawa ko at wala akong bread crumbs then kaya nag mukhang pan de coco yung pandesal ko. Kailangan ko na lang ng filling sabi ko hahaha. Masarap naman nagawa ko kaya naubos din. May natry din akong ibang recipe ng ibang vlogger, may butter naman yung pandesal recipe nya, masarap din. I think basta hindi sunog at di sobrang alat ang pandesal, mauubos ng pinoy hahaha. Sir napurga family mo, may pandesal na kayo for next day. 😂👍🏻

Magandang araw po! Guess who kung sino din ang umubos ng tira tira ng mga bata.... :) Ako ang nabusog dito, right after ng video pinipilit ko sila ubusin kasi sayang kaso ayaw na talaga nila kaya no choice ako, taga ubos na lang. :) parang ang hirap ma imagine ng pandesal na walang bread crumbs haha :) You could also brush it with egg wash para may color ng kaunti. At the end of the day, tama po kayo, basta hindi sunog at hindi maalat, go yan saatin. :) God bless!

Rich C. Kitchen naku sir busog lusog pala kayo after each baking nyo dahil kayo ang taga ubos. Bukambibig ko rin yan ubusin kasi sayang hahaha. Di ko brush ng eggwash pero it could be the canola that gave it its yellow sheen kaya niloko ako na pan de coco daw yun, sabi ko kulang lang ng filling papasang pan de coco sa kulay at hugis minus the bread crumbs. 😂 Congrats sir for your 10k and growing... To more baking and a lot of eating (of their leftovers) 🥂🍾🎊

Pag po nilalagyan ko ng butter ang pandesal mabilis sya maglasang yeast.. e same lang nmn po ng measure na gamit nyo ang yeast na nilagay nmin. Feeling ko po e mas maganda ang oil, canola oil gamit nmin ☺️

Lesley Conchas Hello! Nag yeasty smell or taste if naoover-rise na yung dough. I made a mistake once nag pa rise ako sa oven ng dough, 2 hours sobra na kasi if nasa mainit na place ang dough 1hour ok na. In the end binake ko parin then ginawa kong breadcrumbs.

Si Mahal mas gusto nya ata si mahal dahil wala syang mapili hahaha. I love canola oil. I'm just wondering WHY butter won't make any difference but it looks like it is more softer and stick together.

Haha! Alam na this :) mas malambot sya masahin sa butter, but the end, the tastes are very similar. Kung may difference man we didn't notice. Pero this is for Pandesal only, sa ensaymada and cinnamon rolls I use butter kasi mas malambot sya compared sa Canola. I would love to hear from experts din regarding dito. God bless!

Magandang araw po! Sa garage sale ko lang nakuha ang weighing scale na gamit ko. Unfortunately hindi ko alam ang brand name nya kasi walang naka lagay sa body nya. Saka compared sa ibang weighing scale, ang battery neto is 9V, hindi mga button type batteries kaya mas matagal bago ako mag palit ng battery nya. God bless!

Magandang araw po! A quick Google search shows 50 mL of milk/water is equivalent to 0.21 cups. Malapit na sya mag 1/4 cups, paki bawasan na lang ng around 2 tsp ang 1/4 sakto na po yun. God bless!

Magandang araw po! For 1 cup I knead the dough for around 8 minutes. Kelangan po yun para mag develop ng glutena ng dough. God bless!

Magandang araw po! I only use egg yolks kasi it is made up mostly of fats, which tends to make the bread softer. Kapag hinaluan ko ng egg whites medyo matigas ng kaunti, atleast for my taste. This is my personal preference. I would encourage you to try experimenting between putting egg yolk and the whole egg. Who knows, baka mas ok po ang whole egg para sa taste nyo, and para wala din sayang. God bless!

Magandang araw po! My bench mark is 1-2 hours, pero I don't go by the time, I go by the size of the dough. Kapag nag double na sya ng size ok na, and it usually takes around 1 hour sa kitchen namin. God bless!

Magandang araw po! Sorry to hear that. Hindi ko sure kung anong function ng oven nyo, pero here are y suggestions: Kung pwede, try nyo po ilagay sa medyo mataas na rack ang tray nyo. I am baking this at 160C. Pero sa case nyo, try to lower the temperature to around 140C tapos around 25 mins ang baking time. Baking time will vary ha, once nag golden brown na ang ibabaw, ok na sya.
