Internet and not having a public Rd that gets plowed are two of my biggest problems living in the middle of nowhere. It's really hard to do much of anything with 3mbps down. This is a huge increase and is extremely impressive. If this gave me just 10 more Mbps it would be worth it. I just ordered one today, it's pretty much my last hope.
It will make a difference for you. You will want to aim it carefully. Take your time to aim it. Try every direction; in 10 degree increments. Good luck!
I'm thinking of getting the stand alone version of this that only includes that left most bracket shown at 0:45. You think that bracket would allow the antenna to be mounted to the side of a trailer and tilted up a little bit? Their many large trees around where I live and I think if I aim it up slightly above the treeline I would be good. If i go out side I pull 20 ms ping, 3 ms jitter, up to 140 mbs down and 20 up so aiming at the tower should maybe pull in 150+ which I would love then I can ditch then stupid overpriced DSL that is only 13 down and costing me 65 a month...absolutely terrible considering at my old apartment I was paying 70 a month for 120 down. Also can the antenna be rotated right or left with that bracket I speak of? thanks!
That bracket in the top left of the video would work. I don't use the J-pole parts on my installation either. You need the U bolts of course. Sounds like your area has excellent potential to benefit from the external antenna. its line of sight to the towers so do several trials with aiming it at various angles and directions.
Looks like if your pointing a particular direction your upload speeds are better but your download speeds decrease. If you needed it, you could set the pole to spin to designated spots for either purpose. It would probably be over the top to make some sort of automated switch to do ot for you, but just as easily as marking the pole/stand for desired result.
good idea. even better someone could write a small program to auto "point" based on need UL vs. DL. could also find the perfect direction and recalibrate every few days.
Hey Danr quick question 🙋♂️ I’m in the same situation as u in the boonies surrounded by cedar trees I have a signal booster that does really good for my cell service but my internet needs suck I barely get .80ish down and .20ish up do u think it will shoot thru trees I’m 6.5miles from a tower also I have a Verizon jet pack is that what you use
Hi Lag, I use a Netgear Nighthawk M1 LTE device with the external antenna ports. I think you will want a Yagi antenna and will want to get it up as high as possible in the air. Tree blockage can limit reception but if you just have a few it would not be a limiter. The yagi antenna would be very directional and high gain; it is your best option for 4g or 5g.
