All in all we love our new Panga but, as first time builders we made a few mistakes and would do some things differently on the next one. We can change some things, could use your help on others, and will just have to live with the rest.

Guest seating... A simple way to get around this is to use a Bean Bag Chair. This has become very popular in South Florida. They can be placed anywhere on the boat or left at your compound when not needed. Fish Box Drain... maybe you can build the fish box floor up higher to force water to drain towards your through hull. Center Console Too High...raise your console chairs or convert to leaning post/bolsters Fire Extinguisher... if your boat catches fire that extinguisher is too small to be effective unless you catch it early, start swimming. I have been to Loreto several times in my youth with my father on fishing trips. We have stayed at the Mission Hotel, the La Pinta Hotel and The Oasis Hotel. This was before they built the small boat harbor and the expansion of the malecon. Probably around the early 1990's. We had such a great time there catching Dorado, Yellowtail, Cabrilla, Roosterfish, Triggerfish, Sailfish, Yellowfin Tuna and giant Humbolt Squid. Ahh, the memories! Believe me, your Panga is far nicer than any Panga we ever rented in Loreto! Good luck with your modifications. TIGHT LINES

Thank you for such a great comment and great ideas! I never thought about a bean bag!!! We could probably raise the seats a few inches and still be comfortable...I may do that. It was cool to hear that you have been to our little fishing town. You would still recognize a lot but, much has changed as well. The La Mission Hotel did a complete remodel about 10 or 12 years ago and now is just beautiful. The shopping and availability of goods and services is much improved since we moved hear in 2006. Thanks for taking the time to comment, we really appreciate it! All the best to you and yours. Buenos Suerte Amigo!

Taco marine I think makes a recessed pop up cleat, your drain in the fish box could you drain it in the center back part of the box and into the bilge with a thru hull fitting ? I didn’t notice any floor drains a thru hull fitting recessed in the center like I said in the fish box and drain into your bilge and pumped out , as a boat builder I was cringing watching your guy build your panga but this is the difference between a top of the line and a family friend build your dream , over all your boat is done and you can now enjoy it , enjoyed watching your journey 👍🏼

Here in Australia we have a rod holder that fits in your existing rod holder that can be adjusted to any angle any direction. You can get them with multiple extra rod holders.

As for the rod holders, maybe get some that mount to the top of the rail and angle directly out on the stern or use the t-top and attach the rod holders to the sides as we used to do that for large fish in GA and Florida.

After couple years of hard fishing you can correct all those little inconveniences. Your panga is the best boat for your area of operation. Over the course of its lifetime you will make it perfect. Enjoy the summer Cap

if you want more rod holders you could put railing on the sides then use those clamp on rod holders that look like the ones you purchased. 7/8 to 1 inch should work great for you.

Have you thought about increasing the seat high for visual improvement over the center console ?

I agree a flush casting deck is very advantageous, especially when it gets bumpy. Anything that minimizes tripping hazards is a plus. A layer around the hatches of a lightweight foam coring material with glass on top might be able to get you flush without too much added weight. You may be able to raise the bottom of the fish box the same way. As for rod holders, check out the "Down East Salty S-11" series rod holders. They aren't as low-drag as your flush rod holders, but will allow you to use the gunnels you have without modification and get a good bit of spread as well. If you have plenty of room overhead between your head and the t-top, I have seen where people use a stretch-netting to stash the throwable or life jackets .

Some great advice there! I love the foam idea. I'll check out the rod holders. Not quite enough room for the netting under the t-top for our panga but, an idea that might help someone else. Great comment, glad to have you here! Take care

Look at kayak rod holders. You can install a rail that fits all kinds of attachments including really secure trolling rod holders. And guest seating. Many charter boats in Florida run with giant beanbags. They pack down into hull holds once you’re fishing.

Adapter insert that set your rod on a better angle

Go with a vertical flush rod holder and then and the angle with the stainless rod holder insert. Or go with the vertical flush mount and a bent butt rod .. lots of east coast guys use them. Big fish no problems at all.

Since releasing the video, I found some Scotty's flush mount rod holders that could work...thoughts?
@dcbz6596

This may be a bit late to be useful to you, but I highly recommend Scotty's flush mount rod holders. I use them to troll with my center console and they have never failed me when a big striper hits one. They are easy to adjust both the angle of a rod to the long axis of the boat as well as adjust the angle of a rod to to the horizon. This is the second boat that I have owned that I rigged with Scottys and they have served me well.

I would slap about six rocket launchers on the side of your seat/tackle box for quick clearing of rods when fighting fish. Knee-high access and in the center of the boat so no interference at the rails.

Put fire extinguisher on front of console horizontally mounted to T-top

If you have easy access to the battery, why not get a RULE pump and clip it to the battery with a small hose and pump the water right out. Could be used for the water at your feet as well. Used to do that on my river boat and worked awesome.

Make a half-elliptical cut on the bottom of the gunnel to where the rod holder fits.

You wouldn’t be able to walk by, but you could put some rod holders in the center console angled out much further. There looks to be plenty of room for that.

I've worked on boats and I've built boats. From the get go, it was rough. And stayed rough throughout the entire process. Thats what you've got a rough boat. Interesting none the less.
@MultiObeone

It's ok, just cut the inside out where you need it wider, without cutting the outside hull. Build a small box that fits the rod holder and fit it in the opening you cut out.

Don’t mean to sound mean., but sell the boat you should be able to make a good profit on it and build a bigger and wider boat now you know you’re mistakes and what you need and what you want in your next boat., and maybe even find a used boat that needs new power and get new engine., 31 Bertram time 🌞🛥️🎣🦞
