You could also use the jack that comes with your car and press the bushes out/in against the frame of your vehicle. Bit of messing about to get it all where you need it but does work 95% of the time

so my GU spat that bush out whilst 4wding so i had to bush mechanic it to get her home. used a roll of cloth tape to make a bush by wrapping around the crush tube until i had a tight fit. drove it like that for 500 km before i replaced it.

So, the 92 Maverick (GQ) has the death wobbles , thought I’d start with the first and what I thought would be the easiest,change the panhard bushes ,haven’t tackled this stuff before but I can swing a spanner and watching Byron’s video (great vids mate)with the various ways to remove and fit ,got all the little gadgets he had ,so shopping around for bushes ,come across these SHELLED TYPE PANHARD BUSH KIT GQ Y60 GU Y61 SERIES 1 FITS NISSAN PATROL,which are apparently an upgrade version. So got them, got all my gear together got the panhard out ,all good, and the bushes in there seemed fine couldn’t see any signs off splits squashing etc, any since I had the above thought I’d change them ,got the old ones out easy as. So with the ones I ordered with the steel out shell,I was worried about how I’press them in, noting I leave in an apartment and I’m doing this in my car car space . So with everything I had there was no way I can press these in ,tried pullers, the bolt idea, vice, G clamps, rattle gun, could not keep them square or have anything with enough force to press them in. So unless you have work shop press etc and the proper sleeve or other item to fit on the outer steel rim of these type bushes ,buy the OEM bushes, these bushes are obviously size for size press fit and I tried all sorts of ways but ended up giving up. Sooo I have now ordered the OEM bushes ( which I should of done in the first place) and the OEM Will go in with the gadgets I have. Hopefully this after all this will fix the wobbles. will post an update when I get the OEM bushes. If this doesn’t fix the problem does any one have a suggestion on the next step, cheers guys.

Hey mate I would advised replacing all 4wd bushes with rubber where you can. Im guessing youve checked wheel bearings and tyres first then moved on to the suspension and steering.
@simonstewart2764
@simonstewart2764 2 года назад
@@downtheshedwithbyron mate thanks for the reply, re the wheel bearings had the rig in for some other work and when it was on the hoist the guy noted there was some play in the wheel bearings ,he adjusted them ? and interestingly I didn’t notice much if any wobble prior to him “adjusting” them it was after that it seemed worse , since then I’ve put it up on stands and I can’t feel, get any wobble from the wheels. Yes totally agree with all OEM rubber bushes ,I’ve ordered OEM rubber bushes for the Panhard and I’ll take the hit and ditch those stupid Steel outer steel bushes I ordered,,of note one of the drag link rubber cover,caps looks pretty shit ie, grease coming out and there is a lot of play if I grab it and turn roll it fwd, aft if you not what I mean ,no movements if I try pushing it up as such . I thinking I will upgrade to a Heavy Duty Drag link anyway and at the same time I will get , need and alignment and wheel balance and rotation ,I’ll hit it all at once then I know where I’m at. Additionally the guy said he checked the King pin bearings etc for play and he said there were some shims in there. when he said that I thought he messed with them but he just checked them wouldn’t of been happy if he pulled bits apart etc without speaking with me. so that’s my plan my he said he adjusted the wheel bearings and didn’t take the wheels off ,I ask him how he did that as I have lock nuts on them and he said oh I just took the hubs off, can it be done that way ? .any long story, thanks again for all your info ,will post updates. 👍

Thanks mate, good to know re adjustment of bearings with wheels on makes sense ,to check play and spin the wheel, yeah it was a new place I was trying thought he might of being having a bit of a test of me and what I knew etc , mate I’m just annoyed I can’t at this stage do all my self ,getting over shoulder surgery etc and only have a car space to work within , any how will crack on and get it done ,cheers again mate.

My gu patrol was leaking axle oil so I just did a full wheel bearing and swivel hub rebuild. I changed the king pin bearings and used some new shims, I then used a scale to correctly pull the knuckle to the spec stated in the manual to get it to move. Which was 0.5kg to 1.5kg. I did this both sides and I now have the death wobbles at 80kmp. I had slight wobble before doing this job but no where near this bad. I don’t understand what’s going on. Could it be that I have put too many shims in or could it be that I have done the job correctly but now the swivel hub is tightened to spec it is now put more force on the bushes that maybe wearing out causing the wobbles. I don’t know where to start, your advice would be greatly appreciated

Need help. Ok team, so an update on the Pan hard bush replacement, got the new bushes in, refitted the pan hard rod and torqued to spec,obviously there was some play in the old bushes as they were squashed, fitting it all back it pulled the steering wheel off centre a smidge, on driving there was still some slight wobble, took the MAV in for a wheel alignment and wheel balance,rotation, the wheel alignment pulled the steering wheel smack bang back to centre, on a drive to melb from syd all was sweet as no wobble or vibrations at all sat on 110 no worries , then the shit hit the fan,so sitting on approximately 60 at night I hit a pothole hole I couldn’t avoid ,left front hit pretty hard ,the Mav went into a huge violent shake through the whole car ,thought the whole front end was collapsing,tried slight braking made it worse had to roll to a stop using hand brake. checked over everything and could not see anything broken or bent. Test drove for a few Ks and checked all, all was good continued on , to melb on he return trip to syd all was completely fine as per the drive down No wobble, vibrations etc wheel align still tracking straight, sat on again 100 ,nervously, is all good. Got back to syd took Mav in just for a confidence check to a suspension,steering specialist to be sure nothing broken, bent etc, he says all good , nipped up on pan hard bolts,Fair enough . Told him a torqued to spec,all good he also said he’d adjusted, nipped up on the steering box, so here’s the thing the steering now feels totally dead, as if I have flat tyres or lost power steering? Unless it’s meant to feel like this and I was used to it being more responsive, nervous,or direct as I called it. He says truck safe to drive all good . So trip to Albury all good sweet. coming home sitting on 100 kms all sweet hit a rippled section of bitumen on the fwy and all shit broke loose same again massive vibrations thru the whole truck. Never had this prior to changing the pan hard bushes , just had the wobble at about 70- 80 Ks, which the new bushes etc fixed. I’ve had the wheels bearings checked, the king pins are apparently ok , I’ve had it on a jack and checked all myself and can see nothing obvious. I am now concerned about driving it. Any ideas would be great guys, cheers

@simonstewart2764
@simonstewart2764 Год назад
@@downtheshedwithbyron hey mate thanks for the reply , it’s strange as it runs as straight as a die and no vibrations at all until I hit the random bump etc and the it uncomfortable. 50mm lift , always had and been great, factory pan hard new bushes , 31 “ ATs always had . I hv doubts on the drag link , as you mentioned in an earlier reply I’m going to go thru all now Starting with the drag link tie rod and sway bar bushes , and I guess I won’t know it’s fixed until, when I hit a random bump again which I hope I don’t , the guys that did the wheel alignment said the front suspension felt soft ? They are Aussie ryda comfort shocks, might go back to the mob that fitted suspension and get them to check the shocks can apparently be re valved , mate if wheel bearings or King pins were. U/S surely it would vibrate, wobble all the time wouldn’t it , as I can sit in 110 not that I do that all the time and it fine ?

@@downtheshedwithbyron it’s just frustrating as I’ve had it to 3 places and all said all good. oh yes will probably replace steering damper but everyone says that will probably mask the real problem but hey I’ll try anything and yes radius arm bushes I felt a vibration, knock right under my feet so that’s exactly where the rear end of arms are , mate thanks for the advice, info

But only when I’m at 60 & up k’s & the road is bumpy & the it’s like wheels get carried away & it wobbles Violently 👊 😳 gotta come to a stop & take off again. I got a very slight wheel bearing slop, maybe it’s contributing to it wobbling.. Sorry for my long babbling rambling but what brand rubbers or nylon did you use? Was it Pedders? Nylon.
