Hiya Harry. I am in love with my set of 10 Pan Pastels. I've not been able to watch many videos lately. We had several big health scares with my tough as nails 93-year-old Granny. So been trying to spend more time with her. She fell, broke her femur bone. Then while in rehab, she had a massive Heart Attack. Then another less than a month later in her Dr.'s office. Thank god she was at her Dr.'s Apt. Or we would have lost her that time. She's doing much better now. Hope all is good with you & your family. I wanted to add the way I blend colors is by using the larger, flat sponge & one of the stick type applicator to pick up the colors. It seems to do a good job. But this is Dede Willingham's technique. I learned it from her. Thanks for all the great content. Have a wonderful day. TYFS
Not sure if you know of the Golden Gesso & Grounds , it's an Acrylic Ground for pastel. I put this on my mix media journals first and once it's dry I can use the pastels on them. It works really well.
Harry, thank you so much for this review, as always you give an unbiased review. I've been using PanPastels for quite a few years and I seriously recommend these to anyone who is wanting to get into pastels. It's like painting with wet paint only its application is dry. Yes agree, these are terrific for blocking huge areas quickly, but with the right techniques you can takes PanPastels beyond that too. Thanks again I learn heaps, and heaps from you!!!!!! :)
They seem to be mind blowing: great saturation, endless possibilities, and great blending as well. I personally love pastel pencils and pastels in general. Your drawing is just fantastic, keep it up! P.S. I haven't seen your videos for a while, but now I see you have reached 8000 subscribers and you are on the road for 9000 subs! Congratulations! Hope your channel will grow more in the future
Pan pastel artist make such lovely things. Someday I’d like to get some and learn to use them. But for now I’ll stick with learning to use watercolors and mix my markers in with them. Awesome job reviewing these by the way. You’re always very thorough 👍
Thank you so much mate. I just learning to use them myself mate, the work I can do with them is nowhere near my Colored Pencil and marker work, but with a bit more practise I’ll get there. As always mate thank you so much for your support.
Great review again Harry. Have you seen videos by a professional artist called Les Darlow. He's an expert with them, watched him do a demo last year at Huddersfield art society. Worth watching some of his videos
I have loved using them and I can see so many awesome potentials with them. I am still only learning so I have a way to go before my Pastel work looks like my marker and Colored Pencil work. But I look forward to learning so much more about the medium.
The Art Gear Guide It won’ take long Harry, pastels are one of the easiest and forgiving mediums and look how great you did with the apple you have done. I use pans for backgrounds in colour pencil pieces and backgrounds and under paintings in pastel pieces, finishing off with soft pastels and pastel pencils for the fine details. Your art will be awesome with these.
Thank you so much May, I love seeing your comments on these video reviews, you are amazing. I have so many wonderful amazing people who come back time and time again to watch these reviews and support me, I know just how fortunate I am to have so many wonderful people support the channel. The Modernist Colorists channel is excellent, I have watched his first video goodness knows how many times. I thought I had a lot of colored pencil sets and marker sets, that was until I watch that video lol. Thank you so much May you are amazing.
Gosh Harry, we come back time after time, because you are awesome. We love your reviews, and we are always on a look-out for what to get next. But we dont hate our money, so we do research, and you and your channel, have become one of the first channels we check out. To see if you have a review on it, and what you think about it. You are very tidy, systematic and you show us the use if it, like a everyday man. Without lots of technical terms, codes and pigment numbers. But with information we need in the daily life. That's why we come back. :D And that is why we support you.
Oh Harry no, no , no. I managed to resist watching this when you did it because I wanted them lol, but I think that this year I will be falling into temptation lol again. The only temptations I have nowadays are to do with art supplies and I fully hold you and Jon responsible lol. I only watched this because I want to do a soft pastel landscape today as a change from Jons canal scene, which is going to take me a long time. So when I was up in the night I looked at some videos about how to get a musty effect that I wanted, which I found but I made the serious mistake of looking at the artists other videos and lo and behold pan pastels came into the mix ! Do you know something with all this versatility there aren’t going to be enough hours in the day, perhaps it’s just as well I’m an insomniac lol
I certainly will, I have a few reviews to get done but I’ll try a panpastel and colored pencil drawing. Thank you so much for the request. I love people asking for specific reviews or drawing types.
Jennie Fiedler they are great for doing backgrounds in combination with coloured pencils. I have even used them when doing ‘colouring cards’ for birthdays etc. Makes a world of difference. Just make sure you buy a sealer spray to ‘set’ the pastel colour after applying. I take the finished picture into a spare room with the windows wide open, and give it 2 light sprays 10 mins apart.
