Today we take a close look at my two original tow hooks, one an S-hook, the other a C-hook.

That got me hooked! Interesting to see both types together and how the c hook functions. I bet that was handy when the towing cable slackened and it didn't unhook itself. I would hate it to run up and down a towing team all the time to sort this.

Fascinating video, again. Nicely explained. You are certainly lucky to have a functioning C-hook; German engineering on display again!

The museums also tend to use modern C hooks to replace the ones they don't have or can't get their hands on. But want to have one in place, as well as one handy for use (specifically the ones that take their tanks for a spin).

So cool your C-Hook works so well, and that you have a clamp for the S-Hook.

What a surprise. Multi kinds of hooks with many different sizes and an over engineered hook . Well we are talking German tow hooks so, I guess it is not a surprise. Thanks for the post, I did not know how the C-hooked worked.

Yeah, I would presume C-hooks were never fitted on Pz III since Pz III hadn't been in production for a few months by that point. I have seen StuG III that are early (built during S-hook era) with C-hooks mounted on them in the tow points though. As usual, things get updated and I imagine the locking mechanism was appreciated.

Hey man, you found your way over to the scale modeling ghetto. Thanks, I collect tank parts, tools, track links and other various Panzer stuff. I really do love your channel btw. All the best.

@@AdamMann3D I've actually been subscribed to you for years! :) I have just been very poor at commenting - not only on yours, but on many other channels. I usually watch the videos on my phone or on the TV, and I have way too big hands for trying to respond with anything more then klikking on the thumbs up when on the phone XD. Although in the end, that is really nothing but a bad excuse. I really appreciate all the kind words, constructive criticism and input from viewers on my own channel, so I thought it was about time to give other content creators the same love and recognition that I have recived from my viewers - never too late. ////// Thats a very cool "niche" within the wide range of "niches" in the gigantic hobby of militaria collecting. I actually find everything equally interesting, but one would never be able to nether know or collect everything - so I really enjoyed watching this video. I also really really love your models, they are epic! Keep them videos coming my friend, Best regards from Norway :)

Technically it's easier to manufacture the S hooks as flat/square bars. The halftracks have thinner hooks because the hook is intended to break before anything more expensive or harder to replace does instead. Halftracks tend not to have the horsepower of the bigger tanks too meaning they don't even need to be as strong in the first place either.

How many pieces away are you from being able to assemble a complete tank of your own?

Super-informative, thanks! Am looking to scratch build 1:76 c-hooks and was wondering if you have measurements (or an "educated guesstimate) for the larger (Panther/Tiger) c-hook you mention in your clip. Just a measurement along the line between the two points of its overall length (where it is longest) would be useful (but any other dimensions would be gratefully received). Thanks so much!

Hi Adam, a quick question, these tow hooks, in particular the C-type, would they have been painted Dunkelgelb, dark black-grey or left in their original steel colour? Many thanks.
@AdamMann3D

Dunkelgelb as far as I know.

Where do you get this stuff....Months ago I ordered a Panzer IV track from somewhere in Europe for 120 bucks....because of the virus bullshit it never arrived....bummer...
@AdamMann3D

Don't give up hope, I've had tool clamps "vanish" only to randomly show up. Imported things have to sit in customs for months sometimes. I hope you get it.

@@AdamMann3D On a side note...love your stuff! Thanks...esp the wire cutters...! "What color are those things?" Everyone has an opinion but to see the real things in their true color is awesome info. And...I am color blind,so I go by other builders and what they use other wise the cutters would be purple ...!

@@Misitheus always glad to hear people like my weird stuff. I had colorblind students when I was a 3d art teacher. It was shocking how many UI elements in software rely on red and green. Thankfully we were able to customize the UI, but you never think about issues like that until you have to. Let me know if that link shows up.

@@AdamMann3D I wouldn't trade it for the world...I see things other people don't...camo doesn't work..I read that german tank crew would try to have one man who was color blind...Use to do a lot of hunting when I was a kid. No one else would see the deer...now...don't ask me to pick out a tie...
