I actually came across Dupree on accident in the original. Would make more sense to put him on the way back from Flurrie’s once she joins rather than to put him out of the way of the main path.

It's a little cheesy, sure - but the original drop of the Secret Entrance actually being labeled as such, despite Punio's claims it clearly wouldn't... it got a good laugh out of me. Kind of a shame the Thingy(tm) can't be put back, and that flashing sign will just always be there. Maybe they'll redesign it, since that metal door doesn't go away, either. Not like the Punies have access to/anatomy to use the tools to dismantle them, anyway... ... On that note, it's interesting - supposedly, there's a subtle hint of "Nature vs. Technology" going on here. It's not as blatant as some other stories, but the coloration of those doors, and the general theming of the X-Nauts + Chapter Boss is a deliberate choice to contrast the visuals and designs of the rest of the Tree + Boggly Woods. Exotic gram-negatives and unique, curling shapes giving way to a stark, pastel-red door... I wonder if it was meant to characterize the sort of "evil" the X-Nauts as a whole are, them being generally indifferent and uncaring to anything aside from their goals, and eagerly plowing through anything that gets between them. I don't know if that really deserves any kind of kudos, since it's debatable and... not really stated. But if it's meant to be a subtle start to their greater antics (especially considering the sterilized, high-tech look of their lair, devoid of anything natural), then it is certainly interesting at least...!
12:53 - The way Puniper keeps flipping back and forth for a bit as we prepare to Tattle him is a phenomenon that happens to a lot of NPCs across the game-might be whenever you approach them from behind. I'm guessing it's just some slightly janky NPC behavior code, but it's just so...odd. Kinda bothers me a little, to be honest. Mostly because after you notice it once, you notice it _every time._
Probably coded to turn whenever Mario's close enough for the prompts to show up, but then actually tattling makes the game not run that code anymore so he turns back?
@@Skawo Yeah, I was actually just about to make that observation. It looks like any NPC is made to face you when the Talk prompt appears while you're behind them, but _anything_ that makes said prompt go away (Partner Ring, partner abilty, etc) will cancel that behavior and make them go back to their default orientation...only to turn right back around AGAIN as soon as the prompt reappears. Doesn't make it look any less jank, but at least there's a logic to it :V
Sometimes it's the pointless, weird, silly characters and events in videogames that are the most wonderful and memorable. After all, that's something that games can get away with that movies cannot. Nothing in a game is ever really pointless if it's fun

I just realized a bit of an odd thing: so, Crump isn't actually sent to the Boggly Woods before the end of chapter 1, meaning that all the Punies are... pretty alright before then. So why does Punio appear in the sewers as early as chapter 1? He wouldn't really have any reason to be there since, well, he doesn't need help yet at that point.
I would think the search effort in Boggly Woods was already in progress long before Crump was made to join it. Otherwise, that's some mighty impressive tech-door-speedbuilding skills the X-Nauts have got there :V
@@ShycoWar Alright, so I re-checked the intermission dialogue. Crump is specifically tasked to _return_ to the Boggly Woods and "hasten the search". This doesn't really change much though. Like, the X-Nauts probably wouldn't have much of a reason to imprison them until they were told to get stuff done with faster considering the Punies probably didn't really do much to hinder the whole operation and going to such drastic measures would just kinda be a waste of time and effort if they weren't getting desperate for answers.

I’ve always wondered, do we ever get any clarification on WHAT the X-Nauts are? Like, I get that they’re (basically) a cult, but are they their own race? Just some guys in funky costumes? The weird ear things on the sides of their heads would suggest the former, but I just don’t know.
Something really silly that that Mushroom Fry email reminded me about is that not only are, as confirmed by the intro, Rougeport and the surrounding areas are under Mushroom Kingdom jurisdiction, but in the ending, Peach says "Set sail for the Mushroom Kingdom". So is Rougeport a Mushroom Colony or something because apparently its not part of the "true" Mushroom Kingdom? Been bugging me.
From what I remember, Peach said she was traveling within the Mushroom Kingdom, and Toadsworth said they stopped in Rogueport to refuel, so maybe Rogueport is just outside Mushroom Kingdom borders, but was the closest port for a fuel stop for some reason?
