A paracord pet leash is a great project for those of us with pets…we have 2 dogs so we keep multiple leashes around. We also have many friends with dogs, and we like to give our leashes out to friends and the local animal shelters. This pattern is for a 6 foot dog leash, you can shorten or lengthen as necessary.
You need 40 feet of paracord of each color for 80 feet total, scissors, a lighter, a tape measure, and I purchased a using a swivel bolt snap. I purchased mine at tractor supply for $2, but I have seen them at lowes, home depot, pretty much any hardware store.
Here is a link to the one at tractor supply.
www.tractorsupply.com/tsc/prod...
So First Step, you will hook the paracord onto the swivel bolt..the inside strands should be 6 feet if you want a 6 foot leash..you can shorten or lengthen as necessary. My outer 2 strands of cord are 34 feet and I wrapped them into bundles and fastened it with a rubber band to help hold it together while weaving.
To build the body of the leash, we will do a cobra stitch. Basically, 1 strand makes a P shape (in the pic below that is the green and red one), the other strand (red)goes on top of the 1st strand, then behind the 2 middle strands and and through the loop of the P and then you pull tight.
That is the pattern…so you just continue for 6 feet.
Now we will make the handle.
I loop back about 15 or so inches of the cobra weaved leash and we will do MORE cobra weave, but this time we are weaving over 2 already weaved pieces making it a KING COBRA. Sounds cool eh??
All this does is make the loop in the handle..so continue the KING COBRA weave until you are out of paracord (I think I got about 10 stitches before I ran out of paracord, and that is plenty to hold it.)
Then you trim the ends of the paracord, singe them with the lighter and press them into your work to finish it off.
Now to take my dogs out for a walk!

Best one I've seen 👍. But towards the end, your hands went out of focus (out of the camera shot) but I got the jist of it. 👍👍👍

Hey Wild Wolf! Don't feel bad! Videoing is quite hard! You're right, a lot of steps are repeated. But some feedback, when you took the end of the leash before doing the king cobra, I wish I could of seen more. Such as did the ends go through the leash somewhere or was it just weaved on by the king cobra. This video was helpful though! Keep at it! :)

Hi and thanks...yes, I probably should have included more about how to attach. The ends did not go through the leash (although that would help to secure it more, so it is a great idea). I just folded the leash over and then did the King Cobra weave to hold the 2 leash pieces together.

Alright! Thank you for replying and explaining what you did! :) Keep it up! I'd love to see a full king cobra leash tutorial! Just some unique video ideas! :)

he layed the short cords (inner cords) overtop of the weave when he bent it backwards to make the handle, and then he used the long cords (outer cords) to weave the same weave (cobra) overtop of the inner cords and the existing leash to secure the handle.

It’s a demo vid but when it came to the handle couldn’t see what you were doing as hands were just out of shot and camera

Really curious on one thing... when I did the pattern it began to twist. Is there any way to stop that or no?
@zoeysoost3213
@zoeysoost3213 6 лет назад
Michael Medeiros that means you might be doing something wrong in the pattern. And doing a wrong step that might not have noticed. That's the only reason I could think of that could happen.
@michaelmedeiros1587
@michaelmedeiros1587 6 лет назад
@Zoey soost. It keeps doing a helix twist when I get further down in the leash
@vaiisgod8
@vaiisgod8 6 лет назад
Your not alternating your loop from side to side every time if you repeat the same side it will twist

C. Smith omg thank you I could not figure it out for the life of me
@MarcPosselt
@MarcPosselt 8 месяцев назад
@@michaelmedeiros1587 This means you've used the wrong strand to do the next weave. to keep a straight pattern, always weave the opposite direction as your last one. if you look back at your pattern you will see that the "looped" parts are on the same side, rather than opposite ones. hope that made sense

Wondering why it says that you need 80 ft of paracord, but it shows 34 feet and 6 feet at the beginning. Exactly how much do I need to make a 6 ft leash - 40 of each color, or what?
@rickcompton8495
@rickcompton8495 6 лет назад
Marilyn Campbell yeah I think 40 of each and 6 ft down the middle of on color and 34 for the working cord and I think the same for the other color
@missybaltimore1374
@missybaltimore1374 5 лет назад
i think it was 6 doubled and 34 doubled --- add that and you get 80
@grantaustin2421

I make these all the time. I always did 1 foot of cord for every 1 inch of finished product, plus however many inches you want the leash to be. For a basic 6 foot leash, like most standard leashes come in, you'd need 6*12=72 inches of finished product for the leash, plus remember the 12 inches you need total for the handle, making 84 inches of finished product. So you would need at least 84 feet of cord. Remembering you have to still add another 7 feet for the cord along the inside of the knots and another 5-ish feet so you can do that double back section where the handle is secured back to the leash, I would use a 100 foot rope for each finished product. If you're not doing it in one color, but two, use 50 feet each of two different colors.

I followed all measurements to a tee and my leash came short
@MarcPosselt
@MarcPosselt 8 месяцев назад
the weave length is 6 feet, but once you loop the end back over itself to create the handle, you will shorten the overall leash length. to compensate, for that, just measure how long you want your handle to be, and increase your weave by that amount, so once you make the handle its the correct OVERALL length :)
