This is awesome guys, I just finished my very first monkey fist, and using a #18 yarn needle I managed to do the same thing, pulled both ends out the same area. Tomorrow night I will make 2 more, then use a tying technique like Royal Crown Sinnet to braid all of the three together to make a flail.

All your videos are very helpful! but is there anywhere that shows how much cord you use for your projects?

I found that when I first started out, to do test rigs first, nothing fancy just loose runs to see what I'm left with or without. After that you can measure it by eye. Also, best tip is to always have more, It's def better to end up with 6inches spare than missing halfway through.

Thanks Kevin. I was just wondering what is the probability the two strands will pull the slack that is hidden underneath when you swing it really hard several times. About 1 inch of each strand is help by pressure alone and I wonder if that would hold the weight of a 1 or 2 inch ball swinging and hitting a target. Is it possible the strands would slide out and the 4 strand braid will move away from the fist?

I've made so many of these, but the braided portion always comes out looking lumpy. I don't know what I'm doing wrong.

I'm thinking the same thing, no use getting started to find I used not enough or wasted 8 feet of cord.

hi I have watch this video and the others on how to do the monkey fist and handle. I can make it without a problem. T he issue for me is when using it as a self defense weapon the ball fell out. it is as tight as i am able to make it but it just isn't tight enough. Any suggestion on what I can do? thnks. By the way had no trouble with figuring out which videos to use. Videos are very good and easy to follow.

I like your channel man...But I agree with some of the comments below...If its about sharing well SHARE, If its about selling well say so...You never show how to tighten up the knots or you start at one point where we cannot keep up with you...Later you tell us where we can get your gran father's book but you need to understand that if someone needs to start from scratch to understand your tutorial, well at the end we don't need your tutorial...

Ha I thought this would show my gf how to tie the fist.. Not show us how to do the simple double through part. Kinda a let down man why not show the whole thing through?? And some people don't know how to tighten these buddy so show them instead of saying it.
