How to make your decisions during your cross country flight.
A paragliding cross country flight and filmed with a 360 camera. This XC flight was done on 27th October 2021, which is quite late for the season here in France. I went to Saint André Les Alpes with a plan and two goals in mind - Fly 4 hours and make it back to the car. I did some research of what people usually do in this area for a 4 h flight and went for it.
Check out my video on how to get ready for a new flying area - • Video
This wasn't the most typical day for St. Andre, as there was quite a bit South, South East wind at altitude, this makes the local valley system to fight it as it is opposite here, with mainly Westerly winds.
During this video I go through my thought process, why I make the decisions I make in the air. Hope that the 360 camera gives a better overview for you.
I'm committed to progression and I would love to help you progress as well.
If you are serious about getting better in paragliding, nothing helps as much as having a mentor! I always have had mentors along the way, I think this is the reason I was able to progress so fast and safe. I offer online mentorship on hourly, monthly and yearly bases with regular e-mail communication and one on one video call once a month. Feel free to write me an e-mail with any questions you might have. Here's more information on my web-page.

Noted! As I got the 360 camera late in the season, I will have to wait for Spring to come around to film some 8h flights around the Alps. I have enough storage on that thing to film for 10 hours in 4k! :) Now all I need is good weather to get out there and make some new content for you guys! Stay tuned, more is coming! :)

Very nice flight and analysis! Could you maybe add your track log to this and other videos? That way we could see for ourselves every detail of these great flights!

Wow you don't seem concerned at all to scratch low on some of those ridges even on the leeside.

It all dependant on any given moment, I do my best to analyse the day as is and adapt to it.

When to Use speedbar when thermaling?
@FlyingKarlis
@FlyingKarlis Год назад
It's a tricky question, I do use it when the thermal is strong and the wing dose not want to enter it easily, sometimes I will you asymmetric acceleration, say the outside or inside wing, but most times it will be adding about 30-50 % bar for a short amount of time to get the wing going, or if I am entering from down wind side to cut through the lee side of the thermal.
