These are my personal hints and tips that work for me,I am sharing them to give you an idea of what could possibly work for you. I am not saying they are the best way or the way you should do them, please take that into account, there are many fantastic pilots doing such movies on RU-vid that may well work better than mine, what ever works for you is all that matters.
Marc.

Watching this, I realized this same technique would be handy if I'm landing somewhat off of straight upwind. For example, I sometimes try to land on a car track that isn't lined up with the wind. I've just been running it out on a diagonal which isn't so easy sometimes in low wind landings.

Hi Marc, great videos and I am well jealous of your man cave! The technique I like for side landings is to use what I call the crossed control method - lean hard into the hill with weight shift and keep on track with outside brake. This makes sense to me because if you overcook the outside brake and get an insipient spin - it turns you out from the hill. Using this method the wing is crabbing inefficiently across (but slightly in to) the face of the slope - where you may still be in the lift band. The cross controls reduces the efficiency of the wing and helps the descent. As you get close to the ground, reduce the weight shift and add inside brake to touch down. This method is like how I used to land my old biplane that didn't have flaps so needed to be side slipped in.

What Bipe did you have? I used to own a renegade spirit myself, loved it but paragliding took over my life.

@@leavesleyaviation I had a share in a Stolp Starduster Too and I used to blag a go in my mates Pitts S2B which was an absolute beast - landing at 100 mph sideways. I have given up GA as I felt the cost benefit equation wasn't making sense. I have lost my heart to paragliding - I love it. I am far from being a talented paraglider pilot and I am pretty low time, but I have already had some magical flights. I would love to fly with you sometime.

@@nigelcowley6866 I came very close to buying a Pitt’s S1 at the PFA Rally many years ago, ace plane, yes love the starduster too, I will get another plane 100% but paragliding life is my main concern still, I am sure we will meet at some point buddy.👍🙏🪂

Hi Marc, Just found your channel - liking it! thx I fly mostly in Austria, Italy & Switzerland (typically TO @ 2000 / LZ @ 500) for more than 20 years and see many flatland / hill flyers having a problem visualizing thermal, wind, trigger points and turbulence/lee influences at different levels and surfaces - think it would make a great vid to take on such a subject... ? I'm still learning things every time I fly :-) so, I hesitate to throw in my tips.

Awesome stuff.... I have looked for side landing videos, so as to get me ready for when the covid ban is lifted... (who's reading this in 2030 and remembers covid as that thing that stopped us from flying for far too long) ... I can tell you there aren't that many side landing videos, this one is the best on the internet and the ONLY one that has allowed me to get my head around just what I need to do to perfect those side landings, brilliant stuff, thanks for your efforts.... Looking forward to what ever episode 5 brings 😁

Hi, I was wondering if I could apply this method on a flat landing zone if for some reason on a U shape approach I have not enough time or height to make a 180 degree turn but only a 90 degree turn ?
@leavesleyaviation
@leavesleyaviation 2 года назад
speed is your friend on landings in no winds keep that speed up and legs down early and landings in all sorts of ways and angles are possible, the top red bull x alps pilots do some truly incredible landings.
@nonobebert7646
@nonobebert7646 2 года назад
@@leavesleyaviation Thanks. So as long as I have enough speed it's possible to "land" sideways and brake on the good side at the very last moment to get the wing into the wind ?
@leavesleyaviation
@leavesleyaviation 2 года назад
@@nonobebert7646 Well it takes skill and guidance by a professional and good timing before you should try it yourself but thats up to you buddy. Stay safe.
