The whole point of a shotgun house is that there is a straight line between the front door and the back door so that if you opened the doors and fired a shot through the front it would go straight out the back, I've never seen a shotgun house with offset doors like that. It's a really cute new orleans-esque house but it's not a shotgun house.
Well, I love this build. I'm from Louisiana and it's got the "feel" for sure! Yeah, a real shotgun house is a straight shot but this is still one of my favorite builds from you.
this pack has sparked my enjoyment of willowcreek SO MUCH, for so long i was in a rut of only liking the european-inspired worlds (windenburg, forgotten hollow, britechester), I ABSOLUTELY LOVE THIS PACK it is all of my interests in one pack, the aesthetic is my absolute favourite aesthetic the sims team has ever done, and they did it so fantastically, and it's such good value - i don't understand how they managed to give so much build-buy, so much gameplay, and a really nice cas too? it's simply too good, to me it's their best stuff pack to date but people are put-off by the unrelatability i think, but it fits the way i play the game so perfectly i'm in love with this pack!
This is actually PERFECT for my Madame Zoe😀 (in sims 4 she is the inventor of voodoo dolls. I made her the spellcaster [soon to be paranormal investigator] sister of Bob Pancakes since he has a toddler named Iggy and in MySims she has a nephew with the same name so for me it was a good enough reason to make them siblings and spice the Pancakes up a little bit)
I don't have the Sims 4, but I am obsessed with watching builds. It's the only part of the game I care about. I should have been an interior decorator irl lol. Thanks for sharing your amazing projects with us!
It makes sense that the kitchen would be in back, thus making the bedroom a walkthrough space. In the hotter places, having a kitchen in the middle would be brutal and difficult to cool
It's a great house Ashley even if you don't like the style. I've never heard of a "shotgun" style before, but I like the fact that you incorporated the bookcase door in this build. I don't see it used that much in Sim builds.
The other reason why the shotgun homes don't accommodate privacy much, is that the doors and windows of a traditional shotgun allowed you to cool the home by opening the windows and doors much more efficiently, because airflow was maximized. These homes predate A.C. Also, privacy wasn't prioritized by people who didn't have much in the way of means until fairly recently in history, so you'll find a lot of older, modest homes, that have managed to remain unrenovated, have floor plans that require people to move through bedrooms to get to other rooms. A lot of shotguns have been renovated to have a narrow hallway to the side of the home.
Also, the kitchen being in the back of the house instead of towards the center was another design aspect intended to keep the house as cool as possible before modern cooling methods. The home would retain more heat from cooking if it were in the center instead of the end of the house.
I know that you excel in modern builds but watching all of your recent uploads I can only say that even if you hate it, you definitely know how to pull a more classic looking house off
Yasss loving all the New Orleans looking builds. I always put them in Willow Creek. I’ve been loving doing and downloading that build style since the pack came out. Probably cuz your build was very New Orleans vibes. So perfect for that pack. Reminds me of so many good horror-y things and especially AHS coven. 😍💜
Nice build. Also a lot of shotgun houses do have hall ways, but not in the traditional style, my childhood home was a 2 bed one bath shotgun with an attached laundry room and we had a hallway in between the 2 rooms where the bathroom was. So in between the 2 bedrooms was a bathroom and a closet and a small hallway. But we didn't have doors in the bedrooms so there was no privacy. And yes shotgun homes are very inconvenient to live in 8n modern day but they made more since when they were built because of the hot climate it worked to keep the air flowing i believe.
I found you on the Sims sparked challenge! You were my favorite builder on the show! I love your style and ideas! I am so blessed and excited I found your RU-vid channel! You just gained a new subscriber! 😘🖤🖤
In Asia especially those who are into Feng Shui don't favour much into the shotgun type houses, because it says that your luck will go through the front door and evaporated through the backdoor instead of staying with you. I get this kind of information from my clients. I love this build by the way. I haven't buy the new pack yet, but maybe.
Truly amazing, this is like my 3rd time watching and it gets better each time lol. Also thank you for your amazing Twitch Stream. Have a great night and an even better week.
I love your videos! I just found your channel today and I’ve been binge watching your builds. and I can’t believe I didn’t find you earlier!!! You’re such a good builder, I wish you had more subscribers.
Love it, and I must say that when you went out of your comfort zone you inspired me to as well. This is not my typical style when building in the sims, but after watching you do it I tried it and I love the results! Thank you so much for your talent and inspiration so much, I totally appreciate it, and thank you for all you do :) Love it all!
My grandmas house was built in the 1800s (not in mew orleans tho- actually Ohio lmao) and the floor plan is honestly just like this! The middle room (would be bedroom) is just used as a second living room and the bedrooms are upstairs.
Ahhh thank you so much! Oh gosh here in Canada we pronounce it so harshly with the Or-LEANS 😂😂 I didn’t realize it was so wrong! I will remember to say it properly going forward 💛 Thank you!
@@DoctorAshley No worries, the way you pronounced it is super common among Americans outside the south too! I'm from northeastern US and never knew until recently when I visited lol
love the build, but being from new orleans myself your pronunciation needs to be tweaked a bit. it’s new ore-lens not orlEEns. also like many others commented, a typical shotgun home has doors that are actually straight through. modern renovations tend to have more of a thin hallway style on one side to have more privacy. but, good try
If you listen carefully again I said something along the lines of: “obviously I like it or else I wouldn’t be uploading this video” I meant it as in this is not my typical style as I usually create houses that I would personally live in.
