Aberavon has a public pool. Use it. If caught in a rip, wait it out, then swim back without going near where it is. Most humans float in seawater, but if you fight it to get back, you waste the energy you need to survive.

@splintmeow4723
@splintmeow4723 Год назад
The parents were probably not educated in riptides. Lots of people are unaware of how dangerous the sea is, most people live in houses and barley interact with nature. Can’t just blame the parents if they were unaware, also falls on the kid. Need to pick up many life skills to survive. I nearly died from a rip when I was a child, my mum saved me, they never instructed me on riptides. If you don’t know, you just don’t know. Thankfully we have the internet now so we know to avoid things like mold, riptides, chemical interactions, what is safe to eat, almost an endless list of hazards to understand. Takes a lot of time to research everything.

Its a sad loss but...teach your child how to swim well, instill some logical thinking and then maybe this wouldn't have happened. The world doesn't need barriers and foam edges, just think about your decisions before you make them and prepare your children before they set out on their own journey. Not really any excuse in country that is no more than 60 miles away from the sea in any location you stand and you haven't taught your child to be a good swimmer....even if you can't swim there are cheap enough classes. You dont have to be an athlete but being fit, strong and prepared for at least the basics can never be a bad thing.

I remember the primary age kids who fell through ice when their parents were nowhere to be seen. Turned out to have 'white English' names if that means anything. I have the same feeling in EVERY case. If a parent doesn't teach their child to be respectful of the sea and, ideally, to be able to swim, then the parent is responsible if the child comes to harm in water.
