Dan, Jo, THANK YOU for spending so much time with Ierofante, on behalf of myself and Luca, we greatly appreciate it and this video. Very fitting location to review Ierofante in, as the idea of ascension within a church is the central theme of Ierofante, only we dressed it in Space-Age fashion to freshen it up. I particularly thank you for including the promotional video which we had a blast in creating! I realize the Greek aspect is a bit fuzzy to decipher, but very simply the Ancient Greeks had a secretive cult that worshipped Persephone which lorded over the known "mysteries of the universe" which were basically internal coordinates to paradise within one's mind, i.e Nirvana. High priests called Hierophants stewarded over the initiation ritual which involved 5 days of psychedelics, theatrics, and chanting and the initiates were sworn to secrecy with what they experienced (we don't know to this day), but one thing is known, they no longer feared death after the ritual. All of Grecian high society was part of this cult by the way, Including Socrates, Plato, Hippocrates, etc. The tarot card by the way, is basically an encapsulation of this myth. The place of paradise that the Hierophants pointed to (note the two finger pointing upward salute) was called Elysium and was said to be situated at the edge of the Earth, so naturally one would have to take a rocket to get there. 🚀 The drydown of Ierofante follows just that, a rocket journey to Elysium, and starts with rocket fuel and a new suede spacesuit awaiting takeoff on the tarmac, then ignition and fire as we ascend via pyrogenated styrax and smoky leather. Finally the arrival to this idea of Grecian solar paradise which we rendered as a smoky gourmand amber. Ground Control to Major Tom :) If you watch Stanley Kubrick's 2001 with the idea that it is an exploration of innerspace as opposed to outerspace (and a commentary on the limits of rationalism and logic), the film follows the exact mythology of the Hierophant, hence the space tie-in, which also inspired this perfume. I made the perfume and film as a response to the idea of billionaires using rockets to escape from the very hell they've created here on Earth, that it's NOT about getting off the Earth, but instead going inside oneself like the initiates in order to come face to face with Persephone, and to have "a conversation with their holy guardian angel", as it is referred to in the occult, as an act of self-empowerment in that it is the basis of true courage, and then to do good here on Earth where it's actually needed. We are very grateful to have won Art & Olfaction this year, believe me, we were SHOCKED. It's insane to me that we can't find single shop in the UK to act as our retail partner in spite of our house having won TWO different blindfolded prizes, as Poppy Soma won Perfume Extraordinaire at the USA Fragrance Foundation Awards in '17. That's also my 3rd major prize as I won Best Indie for my other house, Six Scents Parfums, which did sell ALL OVER the Uk (Liberty, Browns, etc etc etc). So hopefully we will be sold there soon. I absolutely love this fragrance. So I was looking forward to hear your thoughts. It evolves a lot, but to me it is mostly a soft sweet suede leather that is very wearable.
