Thank you for this video! You saved me a major headache. I attached a cargo carrier to the back of my Jeep Grand Cherokee and it wouldn't allow me to back up, and I had no idea what to do. 😊
I just got a 2021 ram 1500 and this feature surprised me backing out of my driveway, it didn't like the snow bank that the plow trucks built up along the road lol. Was taking Grandma for a test drive and she freaked out and was afraid my new truck got damaged haha.
What year is your truck? I think that the system has gotten better about detecting things like tall grass. Initially, I was trying to get the brake to activate by leaving the tailgate down. Leaving the tailgate down made it work a couple of times on a 2019/2020 truck, but it didn't work on the 2022 models.
@@prestonflanikensellscars9640 I have a 2022. I disabled it the the system because it would brake with both the tailgate down and because of long weeds. It also engaged the auto brake when backing out of a steep driveway.
I also found that if you try to back up with the driver’s side door open, the truck will turn on the parking brake and you’ll get some weird alert message. It mentions auto-park and I don’t even have that feature. It freaked me out lol.
That’s a safety feature that can’t be turned off. You can override it though. If you have your seat belt on, then it won’t shift into park. Also, you can push on the emergency brake button. It will override the auto park until you cycle the engine off.
Gosh same… I’m 5’2 and my husbs decided he wanted this truck I can’t see and being old fashioned I open my door to have a bit of control where I was backing and this thing scared the heck outta me
I've driven a few cars with this feature, and the first time it slammed on the brakes, it scared the crap out of me. Not once have these "assistance" systems ever actually helped me. 100% of the time, it just throws a false positive and makes it hard to back into spots without having to drive really slow, especially when there's bushes or tall grass
The auto break scared the hell out of me and has caused me anxiety when backing up since, turned it off. I have been driving for 31 years, been doing fine without all these "safety features". The parking break when backing up with the door open is another one that I don't like.
2022 Ram 2500 ... want to add (EXO Winch Mount Kit compat 2014-2018) but it doesn't accommodate for the front sensors - can I disable them on this truck to do that? The only other options I am finding are full bumper replacements with sensor holes - not a fan.. and they are way more money.
@@prestonflanikensellscars9640 that tech is new to me so I'm just going by what the shop installing the winch mount said .. they indicate that I will get some kind of code eventually even with them 'off' in the cab if I permanently block them. I suppose I could painters tape them for a week to test. thanks
"Parksense won't stay off" problem on a grand cherokee 2016. Backing up with a trailer is embarrassing... Tried pulling fuses, resetting system and anything else I could find on the net without success. A patch of aluminum duct tape over each sensor did the trick and I don't even care how bad it looks 😂
If your in a carjacking or similar situation where you need to accelerate forward or maneuver to avoid a collision, will the vehicle engage the autobrake or is it only in reverse?
I think that it is important to know what exact options are on your vehicle and what the owner's manual says. Here is what the owner's manual says about the ParkSense Front and Rear Park Assist system. "The ParkSense Park Assist system provides visual and audible indications of the distance between the rear and/or front fascia and a detected obstacle when backing up or moving forward (e.g. during a parking maneuver). If your vehicle is equipped with the automatic braking function, the vehicle brakes may be automatically applied and released when the vehicle is in REVERSE if the system detects a possible collision with an obstacle." And "The automatic braking function is intended to assist the driver in avoiding possible collisions with detected obstacles when backing up in REVERSE gear." Ram put reverse in all caps, not me. LOL. There is a Forward Collision Warning System that might be a concern in the situations you asked about. I recommend going to the Mopar website and finding the online owner's manual for the year and model you are interested in. Here's a short video showing how to look this up. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-SE0LdDM0BIw.html
I work at a CDJR store and I had a 2022 Ram 1500 Laramie RMT that it’s sensors are disabled some how. Have you seen this in the RMT upfits and can I get it working again for the customer?
@@prestonflanikensellscars9640 it’s turned off with the lights on like if you would disable them yourself and when you push on them to engage them it reads that their disengaged.
Yeah, I really enjoyed my truck when I was backing down a driveway apron into the road and it randomly SLAMMED ON THE brakes with cars coming both ways. SUPER SAFE. NOT!!!!
@@prestonflanikensellscars9640 no not to my truck! Garage door however…..lol. Can’t for the life of me figure out why it didn’t auto brake. It auto breaks driving forward too, right?
The automatic braking can go off when an owner is backing down a steep driveway, backing up to a trailer, backing into a parking area, etc. Basically anytime someone is paying attention to where they are going but the system detects a possible collision when you’re in control of the vehicle. I wouldn’t turn this off through the radio, but, I would temporarily disable the automatic braking from time to time.
