Garry Mc, Norman Gunston. I saw an episode where the politician being interviewed was so pissed with you he called you a galah, the look on your face was priceless, one of the funniest comedic moments for me and I still remember it all these years later.
I’m only just discovering his work and it’s absolutely brilliant!! A very funny guy and one whom Sacha Barron Choen should thank, because Norman Gunston far pre dated Ali G. A pity younger audiences today are not aware of the concept he created. Brilliantly funny guy and a brilliantly funny character.
I loved everything he did except for Mother and Son - and I've seen every episode. I persisted with it and never liked it, his character or Ruth Cracknell's either. The only thing I liked about the series was Robert. He was seriously infuriating but as to all the rest I found the characters thin and the series generally overacted making it all seem inauthentic for my sensibilities at least. The scenarios seemed unnatural.
@@ThePaulv12 I'm inclined to agree with you. My father loved the show, so we all had to endure it. Some things were funny, but overall, it was rather silly
As for Sir Les Patterson, Dame Edna . . . etc, Barry Humphries forgot the golden rule of comedy. Always get out when the audience is screaming out for more. We went to a Barry Humphries show in Perth years ago and the ushers were all pushing us forward to closer seats, which many weren't too keen on for fear of being made a target. Problem was that the theatre was less than half full. People were sick of it.
Great comedian. I've never forgotten Gary dressed up in a KKK outfit in New York City. He pretended to be lost and knocked on the door of the Black Panther Headquarters. A few Panthers came out. He asked them where the KKK gathering was. It didn't take them long to realise that he was pulling their legs and cracked up laughing. The other interview was with Muhammad Ali.
Garry was a quintessential Aussie comedian and actor. I laughed when he interviewed Mick Jagger and Paul McCartney. Garry married a very attractive actress. Lucky man. I never married because attractive women hated me.
Loved The Norman Gunston Show.Brilliant bloke Gary, had me in stitches just looking at him.I regularly watch the interview with Sally Struthers, she was great and could hardly speak for laughing. I cracked up when she looked concerned about his shaving cuts and asked dont you use an electric shaver and he said I do.That interview was one of his best and poor Sally was a great sport...Help.🏴👍😁
@@warrenookland8169 Yes Sally was a great sport and her laugh so infectious. I dont know how many times I have watched that clip...Norman at his best.🤣👍
Gary was so good at improvising on the harmonica. I’d love to hear him play “Summertime” as I have a version of it by the British saxophonist Courtney Pine playing with the late Larry Adler when Larry was very old. It’s on RU-vid if anyone would like to listen to it. It’s not live, just a recording of the complete album but it’s wonderful. I’d love to hear Gary play it.
In Mother and son Mother wanted to buy some oranges from a road stall,on the way to a funeral.. Once the coffin was in the ground Mother lent over and all the oranges fell in the grave,
Brilliant he is.I wish they had the interview with Muggeridge, when Norman congratulated him on his new book, The Assent of Man. Mr. Muggeridge looked aghast ,and said 'Young man, I would never have written such rubbish", you need to get your facts straight.
Garry/Norman is a legend but neither he nor Parkinson fairly represented Rudolf Nureyev who was actually charming in both their interviews with him and their homophobic comments about him are cheap and disrespectful. Other than that - fantastic to see this!
Have a lot of videos stored on an excellent Sony C9 BETA and would love to be able to see them, like him doing a Grease(is the word) song while working on a Dakota plane, along with his injector slippers. Brilliant.
