Parkit360 Trailer Dolly: Comparison to Traditional Swivel Jack

I grew tired of messing with the traditional Swivel Jack that came supplied with my trailer. That 8" plastic wheel gets me no where.
So I stumbled up Park360 online, reached out to them, and now have a chance to use the product.

Mine is model Force 10K B3.

Wow I've just been attaching my trailer to the car this whole time. I'll make sure to get one of these next time I take my trailer out for a drive.
@ObsessedGarage
@ObsessedGarage 7 лет назад
Is that sarcasm? I don't make bets, but I'd take the odds on someone not being able to back this trailer into my washbay.
@christopherelson5119
@christopherelson5119 7 лет назад
It's a lot easier to move a hose and some buckets of water than it is to move the trailer. But in all seriousness you should get a bigger jockey wheel as that one is is just too small.

If it's much bigger, you won't be able to remove it.

@PShort-ve2vw
@PShort-ve2vw 5 лет назад
You obviously don't have a big trailer - this thing makes it so much easier to get in and out of tight spaces - I will even take it with me to campgrounds that have a lot of trees to make it easier to put my TT exactly where I want it without having the tow vehicle attached. It's worth the money, and then some!

Your video is appreciated, good honest demo, not some slick well rehearsed BS. They do have wireless cameras that make backing trailers much safer, new trucks are coming with them.

Bought my ParkIt360 - the manual and promotional videos are severely lacking. So glad I found this post on RU-vid to see this video to make sure I "get it right" - and I appreciate seeing the trial and error portion of the video, it's real life. Also, well, OK, I totally understand why you call your shop OBSESSED Garage.... you are definitely obsessed! I love the detail :).

Great video! On these units you must make sure to tighten the ball attachment with the steel bar so the trailer dolly stays even and does not rub. If it’s not tight, the uptight will lean causing the unit itself to tilt end rub.

I think the first time use videos are good. They show how you figure out how to use the product, it would help others learn from your mistakes too, and that not everything is so smooth the first time.

I'm glad you got the point of the video. People assume you can just back it in where ever you want. I don't car how good you are with a trailer, you aren't backing it into my wash bay.
@gjodexter

Nice work, I can see this being well worth the money in your situation. I use my tractor to move mine. Short wheel base makes it easy to turn in tight spaces. Change the roller to the flat pad version, then you can just crank it all the way up and be clear. You learning what to and what not to do makes the video a little more genuine. Keep it up.
@ObsessedGarage

You can get a nice aftermarket front bumper for your truck that has a hitch receiver under a winch mount. If you use a trailer daily and need to get it into a tight spot, front hitch is the best for jockeying it around.

With the amount if time it takes to set that thing up, the sound it makes, and the ridiculously slow pace that it moves at i would rather push it lol. Not to mention its 1k and your literally moving it like 10 feet. I would recommend buying a mechanical trailer dolly, cheaper and way more affective.

I found only one that is made to handle a trailer of this size and weight and it looked like a piece of crap. I'm 6'2" 235 and stronger than 95% of the general public. It takes everything I have to move it.

@ObsessedGarage

How is it full of myself? The average American doesn't lift anything let alone go outside. Plus I'm much larger than average. I'm not saying I'm better, just stronger. I just know almost all of my friends aren't going to be able to move this thing around. Seems like pretty reasonable estimate. The vast majority of people can't bench their body weight or even do an air squat. It doesn't make me better. It just makes me above average.
@tbh8283
@tbh8283 7 лет назад
at least 95% of the people commenting in here? have never moved a 2 axle trailer by hand before I can see. And why would anybody risk a $20k trailer, a much more expensive garage, by move it with the truck where they can't see anything. coz they are lazy? coz they are "cardudes" and need to show off? I can see the point with this dolly. it fits well in the trailer on trips so it can be used in the mountains or anywhere else to go a freaking tractor or atv can't. so that's useless.

The problem isn't the jockey wheel, the issue is it's a dual axle trailer and you're trying to rotate it with all four wheels on the ground. And if the jockey wheel requires that much force to move then there's probably too much ball weight (although it is unladen, so dynamic weight will change after a car is in it)
@ObsessedGarage
@ObsessedGarage 7 лет назад
I agree, but the jackshaft doesn't go high enough to get the front wheels off the ground.
@barrysummers8577

I struggled with the same problem getting my 19' bass boat in and out of a storage unit for years. My economy solution was to place a jack stand under the tongue. Set it on the jack stand and then turn the plastic wheel in the direction you want to go.

In 2017 I bought the exact same Parkit360 you have. Went through a similar learning curve on the setup. Having this has allowed me to park an 18 ft Kwik Load open race car trailer in a tight space. It has saved me storage fees. A word of caution. Just recently I noticed the drive chain looked askew. When I turned the unit upside down I discovered one of the hex screws that secures the Bosch drive motor was completely missing. It had worked loose and fallen out! I immediately contacted Parkit360 to ask for a replacement. Not once did anyone say "sorry this happened". Their reply was they would look around to see if they had any extra. Later they said they would send it. But a day later their tune changed. They said it was out of warranty and would cost $15 postage to send to the USA. They suggested to go find it myself. Terrible customer support. If you need them look for M6 - 1.00 Flat Head Socket Caps Screws, 12.9 Alloy Steel w Black Ox DIN 7991, 16mm length. I found them on eBay through Monster Bolts. Cost $5 for 10. If Parkit360 was on the ball they could have ordered them for me. Their customer support is terrible.

Hey Matt, One of those convex mirrors up in the top corner of your new garage would be great so you would be able to see the back corners of your trailer from the front while reversing it. you know the ones they put outside of tight driveways so you can see if there are any pedestrians coming, about 2 or 3 foot diameter.

I thought so too, and tried it with a 20hp Craftsman. The problem is the weight of the trailer's hitch is too much and not centered on the tractor wheels. It sits there and spins its wheels while the trailer sits there. The trailer was a dual axle vintage travel trailer. Uneven ground also does not help!

Not sure if this has already been mentioned, but the weld spots on the ball are to keep it from spinning while you tighten the collar. Did you compare this to the Trax TX6000 at all? The Trax uses a different method to tighten the collar (looks like a bottle jack) that does not require the weld spots.
@ObsessedGarage
@ObsessedGarage 7 лет назад
Ah...now that makes sense. I didn't think about that. I dismissed the Trax due to the cost. I originally set out to buy the 5K base model. Plus I hate diamond plate. I begged Trailex to use bare aluminum on my trailer, but they couldn't accommodate.

The welds on the ball are meant to engage the latch on the ball receiver on the tongue of the trailer. It does take an bit of an effort to disengage the welds from the receiver but far easier than the 7 minutes of huffing and puffing you did demonstrating manually pushing the trailer around.

Matt...I have the same trailer and bought the Park 360 after a couple attempts moving the trailer by hand in and out of the garage. I'm 5'9" and 160...not the weakest guy in the world, but certainly not as strong as you and it was miserable to move. I have a 90 degree angle to the garage so backing it in with the Grand Cherokee requires major precision and a lot of back and forth. I love the trailer so had to get something to move it. Best tool for the job. I feel your pain, my first couple tries were a carbon copy of the video. I laughed a lot. Not at you, with you. That was me. I don't get the welds on the ball either, makes things unnecessarily difficult. All-in-all a great tool.

One big benefit of a trailer dolly is security. You can pull a trailer up to a wall where a thief can't get a tow vehicle. That eliminates a lot of opportunistic thieves. Unfortunately, locks and cables are easily defeated with a cordless grinder and a metal cutoff wheel.

I would think an electric motor could be quieter even with a gear reduction to give it more power to move trailers. I would think it should sound like a golf cart...? Sounds like its just grinding a worm drive or a gear, seems slow and I was watching at 3 times speed. (you might have a bad unit?? )

Matt, have you thought about an ATV or UTV or something? How much does that trailer weigh? They have some pretty stout ATV & UTV that can move that kind of weight.
@ObsessedGarage
@ObsessedGarage 7 лет назад
The reason I wanted this was to be able to use it where I take the trailer. The trailer is going to move back and forth between my house and the wash bay, so this works much better.

I understand, that thing just looks like a PITA to setup and actually use. Seems like it takes 10-15 mins just to actually setup. Has to be a easier/better solution. Maybe replace that wheel on the front of the trailer to something better?
@ObsessedGarage
@ObsessedGarage 7 лет назад
It only took me that long because it was the first time. I'm figuring it out. Probably takes less than 5 minutes now that I know how to do it. Lining up the welds, and tightening counter-clockwise took some time to figure out.

Actually, that tool looks handy. I have two boats, and Airstream camp trailer, two utility trailers and I'll soon be buying a dump-bed trailer. Unfortunately, my driveway is gravel and I doubt I'll ever have concrete or some other hard surface down, so I suspect it would not work as well for me. When I have to move the trailers around I have to use 3 different hitches....it takes an hour and it's a PIA. LOL At some point I will likely buy a hitch to put on my John Deere 970 and use it to move things on the property. BUT, if I had a concrete drive I would buy one of these Parkit360 Dollys in a heartbeat. I too prefer to be by myself, so anything that keeps me from having to ask for outside help is always my preference.

The wider wheel/tire option is designed for gravel and grass.

Looks like it was running the brakes while you operated the motor. The brake lights were on until you stopped pushing the button.
@stablesjb
@stablesjb 7 лет назад
Your running lights don't work right? Something may be miswired in the trailer connector.
@ObsessedGarage
@ObsessedGarage 7 лет назад
I said there is something wrong with the Raptor. Brake and signal lights work, but the running lights don't when the lights are on in the truck. Works with the Tahoe, but not the Raptor.

No, I read it just fine. It's just the way it comes off. Probably misinterpreted due to it being in text and not spoken word.

does the trailer have a car in it ? that trailer should not be that hard to move around. use your truck and let that do the work. you have to much money if you need that dolley to inch around that trailer

The torque required to move this trailer is pretty significant. My guess is battery drain would be too great.

Hey Matt keep up the great work, why are you even wasting your time answering stupid comments, I bet if anyone had that kind of money they would do the same. Its for your own convenient and you are the only one who can put a price on that. Long time follower...

It's kind of fun setting people straight. People that don't have any experience with something weighing in as experts is amusing to me.

Matt i know alot of people are saying this is a waste of money. I see it has a purpose its serving and is barely able to do it from the looks of it. But for the money (i know the company probably cut you a hell of a deal on this unit but if they didn't) a small used atv would blow this thing out of the water in terms of usefulness and hell you would probably get some enjoyment out of a atv.

If you follow the instructions and put the ball on the trailer first. Then put the dolly under the ball and set it in place.

I would have just gotten a nice dual wheel tongue jack/or caster (Like the Ark XO Trailer Jack). You look a little silly with the machine since it's so slow & loud.

Being such a big and nice trailer you think the manufacturer would have this as an option. It might aswell not even have the caster on the jack.

This comment section is one of the rougher I've seen on this channel and I can't figure out why it is. The dolly is cool, a great idea for people with heavy trailers and tight spaces to move them to. Especially when you use the trailer relatively frequently as you do. Not so sure why everyone is worried that you spent your hard earned money on something you deem worth it just because they don't. I will say something didn't seem right in use though, could be wrong though. I'm sure the Parkit360 guys will help out there. Good Lord though people let the man live here.
@ObsessedGarage
@ObsessedGarage 7 лет назад
It's not really designed to more the trailer as far as I did. I was doing that mainly to test how much easier it is to use than dealing with the normal wheel. What I would do most of the time is back close then put the dolly on the ball. Now that I know how to set it up, it will take a minute or two to set-up.

....Lower the jack down to where there is only 2-3" of extension( you have it at 7-9"). Essentially lower the tongue almost all the way down. I learned this trick with my tandem 3 seat YAMAHA Waverunner trailer. I could move the trailer and 2,000 lbs of Waverunners with ease.
@ObsessedGarage
@ObsessedGarage 7 лет назад
This trailer is too long to get the front or rear wheels off the ground by doing that technique.
@EIGHTLUG
@EIGHTLUG 7 лет назад
Yeah, I haven't tried it with tandem axles. So that makes some sense. Lowering the tongue does allow the little plastic wheel to spin around like a caster on a grocery cart though. It still doesn't make your trailer any lighter to push. You could always incorporate that into your crossfit training, though! LOL

Why not back it like 25% or 50% in, then just attach a winch to the back of the bay and winch it in? Much easier to apply torque to the length of the trailer to turn it too...
