Got these Parma Place skits from a guy who worked at Channel 8 with Big Chuck he said they found this old stuff in the old basement of the building and had to find the machine to play them since they were on old Mag tape reels. He sent me copies on VHS of old Ghoulardi footage & Ernie Anderson skits........Quality is not great but atleast they saved it........

How did I end up here? I was watching Jeopardy the other night and the answer was something about AMRAP as it related to CrossFit. I told my wife “Hey! That’s Parma spelled backwards!” After a good laugh together, I started searching Ghoulardi and Parma Place and here I am. I didn’t remember that John cleaned the muck from Lake Erie. If you were ever on the Goodtime II in the 60’s, you would know that it would be a pretty steady job, lol. One of the comments here complained about the quality of the video. We lived in the Akron area and this is about the best we could tune in channel 8. It’s just like watching on our old RCA tv complete with the 60 cycle hum of a tube tv.

LOL...grew up watching Ghoulardi...Parma jokes are still funnier than West Virginia or Kentucky jokes....

Awesome. You had to live there to appreciate this. Parma was peeved by how this show made a stigma out of being from Parma. Euclid used to laugh at people who wore white socks saying look at those Parma socks. In general this was a spoof parody of soap operas...

But Parma HEIGHTS socks--now those had STRIPES!

The whole premise and production is hilarious. It is funny for many different reasons and was ahead of it's time. I love it!

That is amazing that these tapes are able to be viewed after being buried in a basement for decades. Thank you so much for posting these, and please thank your pal at channel 8 too!

Thanks so much for posting this gem! This is some funny stuff for real. Parma didn't like it,but I think it was simply a good-natured ribbing of Parma,no harm was intended or done. A lot of it was funny because it was reasonably accurate. Eventually it seems that Parma developed a sense of humor for this type of stuff,Houlihan and big Chuck had a great run in the 1970s with similar material.

Many thanks! I was too young to watch these when they were new (I was like, 1 year old) but I have been hearing about them for years.

Me too, earliest host I recall is the ghoul or superhost! I heard about Ghoulardi but never actually watched him until now. It was great to see 'Big Chuck' Shadowski in these skits, gee he is young! Hilarious,I'm a new fan !

You will notice that on the last episode here that there is no PARMA PLACE logo on the title card. By this time, the skits had made such a stink in Parma that management came down on Ernie and forbade him from ever mentioning the place again. Ernie sort of got around it by constantly referencing polkas, Polish food, and playing Frankie Yankovic's 'Who Stole the Kishka'.

I heard about that story on a Ghoulardi retrospective on WJW in my teens. According to Ernie Anderson (Ghoulardi), all of Parma was PISSED. An entire damn city couldn't take a joke back then...

I remember on Big Chuck and Houlihan that they used to play 'who stole the kishka' in their skits, today I smile ear-to-ear if I hear polka music.

@@Shadobanned4life Hoolihan and Big Chuck and then Big Chuck and Lil' John kept the Polish jokes coming for years[while Ernie was a millionaire in CA] except they changed it to 'a certain ethnic'...very bizarre to think of this innocent fun being taboo today

The week after the final episode of Parma Place aired, Ghoulardi plugged an imaginary product,"Kreegle Cream,"for your hair. "Jerry Kreegle uses Kreegle Cream."

These are episodes 1,3,8 and 10 of Parma Place-the only episodes that Big Chuck was in. I wonder if the other episodes were recorded and preserved at all.

Chuck told me they did 13 of these originally. Always wondered if they actually ran all of them, given the series was axed by the station.

An entire suburb had their feelings hurt, so this segment on Ghoulardi was scrapped. I don't believe it.

Those little pocket radios were fun. I still have my dad's. Of course, back then you could hear something decent on AM radio, not just a bunch of preachers and ranty political hacks.
