I read a comment where the person stated that they wanted to move to Ghana but because of corruption they've changed their mind. My question is that is there any country that Is corruption free? It so which country is it? Listen here in my opinion, every single country has some form of corruption, what you need to do is be wise, do your research have documentation on every transactions you've made with the other person, also make it legal through the court system, don't do side deals with no one. By doing so, you will not be taking advantage off.

@Numinue Cooper No but there are countries that only function on corruption and they are all in Africa. That’s why the only jobs are for business executives. Show me where an entire village in Africa can go to work every day and support a family. 3/4 of our motherland don’t have running water and flushing toilets. They don’t have sewer systems to take waist away. Western countries and very North Africa has that but sub-Saharan is as advanced as the Old Testament

@@bluegray5093 Many other countries had wars and invasions as well and they still moved forward. I am ashamed to say we use that as an excuse because the corrupt want us to believe it because it keeps the corruption to continue without having to answer for it and the people have nothing to show for it. Maybe electricity one day maybe not the next still in 2023

As a Ghanaian American this makes me sad but I'm glad Akua is brave enough to tell her story. Hopefully, it reaches many people who have romanticized living in Ghana. It will always be a part of me, but family members, friends, and I have lost a lot to bad deals, people disappearing and everything in between. We must do better if we want more people to settle in Ghana. 💛🇬🇭

One of the programmes I mourn for, is Kwame Nkrumah's MASS EDUCATION PRIGRAMME. In the 1950s and 60s, important information was shared with the general public. Today, with all the radio and television stations, public education should be a lot easier. When people do not understand or teach our history, they will not truly welcome our brothers and sisters who are returning home after so many hundreds of years. We should NOT see them as strangers but as our own family returning home. Sadly, honesty and integrity are lacking in some people, but let us continue to push through.

I had a nightmare time in Ghana, including three attempts on my life, after completing the building of a property in Accra. I’d been visiting Ghana since 1998. People thought I had money and decided the best way forward would be to kill me. I am also of Jamaican birth living in London. I left Ghana and those who tried to harm me moved into my property. It was a very protracted process, but after about 3 years of trying to find an honest Ghanaian lawyer to fight my case, I got my day in court. It took 8 years, but I got my property back and sold it at a massive loss to an Englishman. I’ve travelled all over Africa, but I will never again invest a penny anywhere on the continent, as there appears to be no infrastructure to support diaspora peoples trying to settle there. I can’t believe this is still happening to people. So wrong! I lost around £60k but I’m alive and well and continue to travel the world.

Wow! I am sorry that this happened to you. You were fortunate to left out with your life. In May,2015, there were two African American elderly sisters who repatriated to Ghana from Detroit,United States. They legally purchased land for to have their home built . There were some Ghanaian villagers who were jealous of the sisters and didn’t want them to live there. They wanted their land but the sisters fought hard as they could to stay there , won their case in court and keep their land. One day,two male Ghanaian villagers attacked and murdered the sisters. The men had poisoned their dogs prior to killing the sisters.Jeanette Salters was 75 and her sister was 60. They loved Africa and was hoping for to live the rest of their lives there.Your experience sounded similar to the sisters.

I didn’t do the tourist thing because I wanted to move there. So I traveled to many places looking for the right place. I did see something that I like near Aburi the air was fresher and less air pollution. For me once they see, talk and recognize that you’re not Ghanaian game is on. People we need each other. I appreciate this Sister’s honesty and know that she’s going to be ok. I’m going to move to Africa. The continent is vast maybe not Ghana. My question is WHY DO YOU TRY TO TAKE ADVANTAGE of YOUR OWN? You have to go and see the house as completed and have a walk through then get a real estate lawyer to go through all the paper work and explain it to you before you make payment. When it comes to the payments, never give them all the amount . Ask for a payment plan. There were a lot of mistakes this lady made by trusting the UK office . Hello brothers and sisters! This video is a very good channel to show how real Africa works...I myself am a Afro-Brazilian who decided to start a new life in Angola (also an official Portuguese speaking country like mine) and I got frustrated when I realized that corruption is the norm when it comes to business over there. The best way for you to do trustful business in Africa is through trustable people you have already known on the ground because the companies in the private sector are involved in corruption with connections to people that represent the law and order. Maybe I am being not fair to the entire Africa because I don´t know all the 54 countries of the continent, but I have some experience on Angola, particularly on its capital city, Luanda. I came back to Brazil and I am still interested in living in Angola, but if I go back there again, my mindset will be completely different of the former one, when I was too romantic about living in Africa.

I've know people to have just gone on a simple holiday and then telling you they've bought land for £3000 from some village chief, and when I criticise the move they start talking about my negative energy. Plus just like Gambia, a new government can come in and tell you that you no longer own your property. A very heart breaking story😥. As a real estate broker, I really wish she had gone through the document she signed and made sure that she gets compensated in event of any delay. From my experience with Ghanaian developers, most of them try to complete their buildings within 24 months. Some stay within this time line but as I said, provision should be made in the contract signed. They may omit it just so they have that freedom but it's up to the buyer to insist. One thing buyers don't know is that they can edit the contract agreement where needed. If they would not budge then move to another developer.

I don't now why people think buying land is so free of problems in the US,Uk etc. If you don't follow proper procedures in buying land anywhere in the world more than likely you will get scammed. Even with proper procedures you can still get beaten out of your land or home in the US. In Pennsylvania someone offered to sell my family land that he did not own. In another situation someone I know thought they had bought 100 acres of land. What they didn't know was that 30 acres were ensconced in other's land without any access to it. So they really had 70 acres. I know of another situation in which a mortgage company failed to pay the bank the full mortgage even though the owners paid in full. Soon 50% of the property was auctioned off because property taxes were not paid. The owners assumed the bank was paying the taxes. It was only pure luck that the owners found out four years later that they no longer owned 50% of their property. If five years had gone buy they would not have had any way to get their and back. I recall another case in which the nw owner was given the wrong place to send his payments. If her had not caught it he would have lost his land even though remade all his payments on time. All of this happened in the US.

The secret is get to know the country you've decided to settle in, visit it several times, seek friends from native returnees and diaspora who've settled there as they'll be more knowledgeable and be able to advise if a venture is a scam. Most important thing is trust no one and if its too good to be true don't go through with it.

Patricia This woman’s ordeal is not a reflection of what goes on in America. Black people (or any other group) in America are not systematically running land and real estate scams on one another here. Nor is any other group. In those infrequent instances where anyone tries to defraud you, we have systems in place to hold people accountable. Judges are not in bed with local officials. In general, we do not detect a foreign accent and then proceed to take advantage of people based on that accent. When have you heard of a Black American selling an African immigrant land under fraudulent circumstances, and if he or she did, not being held to account? What happens to African Americans in Ghana and Africa, is part of a cultural mindset, cultural practices. Even with the issues we have among one another in America, this is not one of them.

I can't live in Ghana, it's been the worst experience and I can only ever come back on vacation. That's the reality. Most people don't want to speak up about the difficulties. I've done so much charity work and helped so many people but my son comes first. Thank you.

What a challenge to ones mental health, it is a testiment to our sister that she has retained her sanity if at a cost. Your testimony has a purpose and will save others from the same nightmare.

Thanks for sharing your story! Although it came from misfortune, I was compelled to hear it entirely. You tell it so clearly. I could see the pain and frustration in your eyes and hear it in your voice as well. As a Black American, I always wondered what it would be like to move to West Africa somewhere like Gahna or Nigeria. After seeing several videos like this I think I'll stay put and visit instead. On a side note, you should become a narrator or storyteller. You have an amazingly clear voice. I pray you have better luck and fortune in the future.

My advice to expats coming to Ghana is that , in Ghana always insist to pay for what is ready , not what is in progress.... there are many good people in Ghana anyways

Maybe expats should find some Lebanese, or Chinese or white to help them in Ghana with all business not just home building. That's what I will advise.

After listening to many many RU-vid interviews that common-practice is for *some Ghanaian workers to say YES even when they know it should be NO! How can this mindset be changed amongst those who can't say NO?

You have to equate moving to Ghana like moving to the Caribbean. Just like you wouldn't trust folks in the Caribbean with your money, don't trust anyone on the Continent with your money.
