“Our voice resonates with life. Because this is so, it can touch the lives of others. The caring and compassion imbued in your voice finds passage to the listener's soul, striking his or her heart and causing it to sing out; the human voice summons something profound from deep within, and can even compel a person into action.”-Daisaku Ikeda

We Filipinos have one of the richest and most colorful histories and cultures because they are drawn from the many countries that helped shaped us. I can say that we may be the only country that has been colonized and influenced by many such as China, the Malayans, India, Spain, America and many others. I can also claim that in spite of these multiple influences, we were able to preserve our true identity as Filipinos. This structure in our society was made possible because of our intelligence, our perseverance, our ability to adapt to every situation from the good and the bad, our flexibility and our tenacity. It is my wish that we mirror the way other cultures like the Mexicans preserve their original and authentic culture. They might have been borne and lived in the United States but both the young and the old are publicly proud of their ancestor's music. They waive their music, their food, their religion, their beliefs, and their being who they are to the whole world without any apologies. Their attitude is that this is who they are and if the world does not accept, then it is the problem of those who refuse to accept them. They refuse to compromise their being. And I hope that we Filipinos take the same stand. Our music, our food, our traditions, our belief, our look, our whole being are what make us one of the most beautiful people and nation in the world. Our brown color is being envied here in America. Our intelligence is respected everywhere in the world. We are Filipinos! Thank you, Sir, for keeping our Kundiman songs alive because this is the very fabric of our souls as Filipinos!
Exactly! Getting rid of colonial mentality is recognizing historical facts. I see so many Filipinos who are so hell-bent into rejecting our factual heritage, that is the fact that The Philippines is fundamentally hispanic-asian. Filipinos think that loving ones one means being ethnocentric or indigenist rejecting foreign influences. Compare that to Mexicans who embrace what they truly are, both thr foreign and the native.
Thank you Fĺorante you deserve to be in the hall of fame, the way you play the guitar is truly amazing ,me kurot sa puso.Keep it up we're so proud of you.
Actually, Recuerdos de la Alhambra is a kundiman. It follows the kundiman form to a T - uses 3/4 time, starts with minor and modulates to parallel major in the middle. :)
