Hi Laura! Thanks for this video. I’m currently studying for the ADX using Sheppard Air before attending Sheffield. Hoping I pass at least the ADX 😓

You’re welcome! If you’re studying with Sheppard Air, then just keep following their method, and you’ll be fine! Great choice on Sheffield. That’s where I got my dispatch certificate!

Laura Laster I have completely my practical and oral with FAA but they had never asked me about all of these questions as I prepare for FAA. And in flight planning I have not came across any of these things that I am gonna use there when I work for an airline then why do we have to study as aircraft dispatcher. And some of the things that only pilot does no body else has to do that it’s just unnecessary too much. Guide me. Thanks

You have stated on the first problem that the fuel burn was 26,000 pounds. This can't be right for a 737 which is a relatively small plane and I believe carries about 45,000 pounds of fuel. It must be the 2600 pound figure, not 26,000 pounds.
@LauraLaster747
@LauraLaster747 Год назад
In the first problem, I meant to say 2,600 lbs burned during the climb. You are correct that I mis-spoke at 2:45 into the video. My mistake! It was a long day.

Good presentation. However, there is a type in the slide at 16:41. 8800+600 equals 9400. 8800 plus 800 equals 9600.

In the second question you stated that the 1.97 per setting would be at FL 390. This should be FL 350 as per the available levels on the chart.

Which question number specifically are you asking about? Is this question 8668?
@MrFer0072
@MrFer0072 3 года назад
Why did she divide by 50 instead 5 in the minute 11:30? It's easier divide by 5 because there are only 5 levels of 1.000 feet between FL 300 and FL 350 and not 50

Have you seen that the question Trip Time X-2 has a wrong answer in the ASA System, they give the answer as B)6h 15min but it's definitely C)5h 55min. If you can take a look and tell me what you think, if I'm wrong or if they've made a mistake, I would be glad for that, thank you in advance Laura.

Hello Laura! I have already done my ATP-CTP and written. When I report to Miami, I'll end up doing an ATP check ride in a GA twin of some kind. Given my situation, how can I start to prepare myself for the actual checkride given it's been some time since I've done the prior? Could you recommend anything to help prepare for that?
@LauraLaster747
@LauraLaster747 7 месяцев назад
This is basically my exact situation…what I did was I took the strategy I explained in the 3 part series on passing your instrument checkride, but I applied it to ATP Airman Certification Standards. I produced a big thick binder with everything I needed to know and with references listed in case I needed to look something up.

Hi ... I would like to ask something ... whats determine the certification for example, CESSA CITATION B dual pilot .... and for example, the CJ 3, Phenon 300 certificated single pilot. Is there something about the engine trust ? or about how much weight each one carry .... Hope you explane for us .
@LauraLaster747
@LauraLaster747 Год назад
I do not know the specifics on how the FAA determines whether an aircraft will be certificated as single pilot or requiring two crewmember for smaller business aviation type aircraft. However, this blog post may be helpful. blog.wepushtin.com/blog/what-makes-a-plane-single-pilot-certified/

I appreciate anyone trying to help people pass this wretched 'test', but interpolation is not necessary to figure this out. Neither is average TAS calculations. However, if it helps anyone, bravo.

This was a really old video that I had been using to try to unpack questions to basically promote understanding of interpolation, etc. I agree that it is a wretched test.

if you don't know interpolation, go back to elementary school, 4th grade, and restart your study. AFTER SUCCEDSFULLY GRADUATED ELEMENTARY SCHOOL, then, just after then spend 120.000 dollar for being a pilot!!

Unfortunately, it seems like interpolation is a lost art. I am not sure it's even being taught in elementary school anymore....

In no. 1 should airport elevation be count in the calculation?
@LauraLaster747
@LauraLaster747 4 года назад
No, because it is not significant enough to make a difference. The bottom of figure 57 shows a fuel adjustment for high elevation airports with a note saying that the effect on time and distance is negligible. Download the PDF figure supplement here: www.faa.gov/training_testing/testing/supplements/ and thank you so much for watching!!

Hi Frank, I suggest buying the ATP test prep book from ASA. Airline Transport Pilot Test Prep 2017: Study & Prepare: Pass your test and know what is essential to become a safe, competent pilot - from the most ... in aviation training (Test Prep series) www.amazon.com/dp/1619543591/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_eurVxbKB9450A Or else you can subscribe to www.sheppardair.com which also can greatly help you pass this test.

At 3:00. Why wasn't the 373 kts from the en route climb chart used in the calculations?
@LauraLaster747
@LauraLaster747 5 лет назад
Hi, my best answer is that 1) if you use 373 then you will get the question wrong and I think this is because 2) the 373 number is what true air speed you will get BUT you cannot do that for the whole climb because of airplane and speed restrictions (in the US, 250 kts below 10,000' etc). The 16 minutes to go 87 nautical miles accounts for speed changes in the climb, so that is the speed you should use to answer this problem (and you have to calculate it). If you take 373 and apply a 30 knot headwind, you will very likely come up with one of the FAA answers, but it will be incorrect because a climb is not done at a constant airspeed.

Hey Michael, well that wasn't the point of the video! If you're going to take the ATP knowledge test, I recommend using Sheppard Air for a very solid test preparation program. The video was designed to help you learn certain concepts but not all of the charts on the test are in this video, and because the test bank changes, I may have charts and problems demonstrated in this video that are no longer on the test! Good luck!
