Ooh I know why! It's because there was no widower in traditional Luhya. Hehe. When your wife dies, you remarry like almost immediately. In fact you're given a new wife on the burial day in some cases.

Kikuyu two is igiri. The numbers 2,3,4,5, 9 and 10 are pretty universal in all Bantu languages and accounting for sound change are instantly recognizable. One and zero seem the most different. Kenyan Bantu languages also seem to copy Swahili for some numbers, which are taken from Arabic.

I remember i was i kakamega to broadcast CECAFA in 2017, while in a restaurant, i said something in luganda and this lady trasilated what I said, it surprised me, i never thought there was a language similar to luganda in kenya, i always thought the Tanzanians were closer to uganda than the kenyans, in kagera people speak real luganda though and eat the same food as the baganda.

All luhyas in Kakamega understand each othere, the only alittle different luhya is Bukusu and Maragori. All luhyas in Kakamega count the like how you are counting in Marachi. Try say luhya othere than being spacific to your subtribe.

Thanks for your correction. Unfortunately, maybe you're new to this channel, and I understand. On this channel, I teach the Luhya I have spoken since childhood. I do not focus on indigenous Luhya because I cannot access it, and that doesn't stop me from sharing what I know already. So, I have never used the words Shienda and Khasasaba my whole life, yet I grew up in the village. I have never heard people in my village use it either. Also, Luhya subtribes are many. Which one are you talking about? But of course, I understand your point of view.
@alukweKopite
@alukweKopite 8 месяцев назад
@luhyalanguageandculture I know you have never used those words, but to be sincere with you and luhyas in general, we use swahili alot hence mix the two , but ask around, a Marama and a Marachi we only differ when sounding names with D and T , Marachi will have D sound while we Marama use T
@luhyalanguageandculture
@luhyalanguageandculture 8 месяцев назад
@@alukweKopite I understand where you're coming from. And If I had reasoned like that, I would never have begun this channel. Truth, is there is a lot of content missing on this channel because of that. But I got be honest with myself, not knowing these vocabularies can't stop me from teaching people at least what I know. Language interference is true and it's not going anywhere. Look around on the Internet and show me a book or an article or even a video where someone is teaching us indigenous Luhya. Nobody. So I decided, I won't sit back and wait just because I don't speak Luhya like my grandfather. Or because I can't afford money to pay a old person in the village to teach me the indigenous Luhya. All these resources are costly to get. But what isn't costly is my own spoken Luhya that I've grown up hearing people speak in my community. As I know, one day, will also be regarded indigenous. Thank you, for bringing up this topic. It's a difficult conversation but people can't avoid it altogether.
