Hi Tarlochan, just finished replicating your design. Its really excellent.I made my profile to fit the extended side table then cut it at the end, Now my fixed jigsaw table and separate router are secure and interchangeable on the same track. Im thinking of adding track on both sides with connecting corners too. Thanks for your design and sharing.

@@mikejackson459 Yeah but even as a job site saw, you need a fence that doesnt bend all over the place. I mean if dewalt can do it, why cant makita.

@@jbrizzle4725 i agree with fhat but my construction team find it quite adequate as it was for rough cutting. Makita's bandsaw suffers the same weak fence. It seems that this is a blindspot for Makita.

I was undecided on a table saw. Watched a truckload of youtubes on the subject, decided to go with the markita as it was easier and cheaper to get from a local store. Its now 09/ 2022 and Markita seemed to have fixed the surface flatness somewhat (still not perfect however) and i figured after watching your video's i could upgrade the fence and make a zero clearance plate easy enough. I do think the 40 x 80 extrusion is a particularly elegant solution compared to the diy timber solution perhaps not as cheap, but each to their own solution i guess. 😀

Just changed the fence on my Makita 1200f bandsaw to the same basic design as you used here on the MLT100, Tarlochan. Works brilliantly. And ive done somerhing similar with the flimsy mitre fence too using 20 x 80 aluminium profile in both cases.

@@sun57vin I agree with you, it's difficult to make rip cuts with the original fence and an upgrade is a must. Now after using my new fence, it feels so good to see accurate and controlled rip cuts, I also had to upgrade the Insert plates, blade adjustment/lifting lead screw system, make new guides for mitre fence and align the blade with the table, to make my table saw suitable for accurate cutting and repeatability. Many thanks this was just what I was looking for to make my Makita MLT100 Table saw better, I followed your almost the same way apart from use a 30 x 30mm extruded profile instead of using a 40 X 40mm that way I didn't have to do any alteration for it to fit flush, Also I noticed that my table saw sled didn't slide enough when I'd finished the work because the new end profile stopped it, so I simply using a grinder cut slots in the 30 x 30mm extruded profile so then the saw sled worked great, Once again thanks for a great video, this will make cutting perfect cuts so much easier

I did this upgrade to my table saw. I got everything to fit right and it is a great improvement. The only issue I had was that the 40mm aluminium profile that I got in Australia has an extra lip in the slot which makes it only 8mm. I already had a 10mm hole in the fence and a 10mm bolt and didn't want any free play if I downsized to an 8mm bolt so I will lathe a groove at the bottom of the bolt shaft to let it fit in the slot and remain 10mm for the fence. Another difference was my 40mm t-slot accomodated the head of the 10mm bolt, so I did not have to grind it down.

Why did you drill holes for the screws in the rear ALU profile? I have a back piece on this MLT100 saw made from a similar ALU profile, and I attached it by putting screw heads in the groove, threading through the drilled hole, and putting a washer and anti-play nuts on the back. It has been holding it for several years without problems and I used the back part of the ALU profile to attach the back part of the ruler,

Is it difficult to keep the fence square?
@TarlochanSingh

Makita MLT 100 uses Cam mechanism to secure the fence on the front scale profile, so when you engage the lever of the fence, the fence takes a position parallel to the blade, Also there are two alignment bolts provided for adjustment on the fence to align incase the fence is not parallel to the blade after the lever is engaged. Hope i have answered your question. Thanks

Dude this is fantastic! I have the same problem with my fence as you did but I have a titan table saw (from Screwfix). The mounting/clamp you have on yours is very similar to mine, but i don't have the same type of extenders you have on the other end of the saw, but what I do have is a lot of holes in the table edge so i wont need to drill the table of the saw i just need to drill the aluminum profile. I'm going to try to build one like yours but im probably going to use 2020 profile to bolt to the saw table and I think im going to use 2060 aluminum profile for the fence itself. Out of all the video's (i watched atleast 20) making DIY fences many in wood and many in metal this is the best! why? because its not over-complicated its simple and it works
@TarlochanSingh
@TarlochanSingh 3 года назад
sounds interesting and Thanks for your wonderful comments. I would recommend once to just try sliding the bolt head in 2020 profile groves, to make sure there is sufficient space and the bolt head does not get stuck, during part 1 of mine video I used 4040, but if you watched the part 2, I used 4545 instead, All the best with your project.

@@TarlochanSingh That is my only concern is getting stuck but I could use a coach bolt those have rounded heads and a square under the head which could lock it between the 2 lines on the profile but the issue is finding which size will fit.

@@TarlochanSingh could you tell me the type of profile you used like a model or something please? im used to 2020 and 2040 often used as 3d printer frames but I fear they might have too little of a grove in the profile so i might want to get the type you used

@@TotoGuy-Original The round head with square to lock in profile is good idea if you can find round head bolt with the required lenght, also I used the standard 4545 profile, you can see the details of the same in the link below. www.pbh.in/shop/mps-4545l-length-1000mm-61382?category=45#attr=

Hello, Watchin the video I'm thinking: the original fence was thinner than this upgraded. How can be the measurement accurate?
@TarlochanSingh
@TarlochanSingh 3 года назад
Yes you are right, you can either try to move the existing scale/tape measurement to the right and calibrate it with the new fence thickness or you can stick a new measuring scale/tape on the existing scale with the new fence reference. However i prefer to directly measure the distance from the blade to the fence, just to be sure with my measurement. Thanks

Dear Mr. Singh, Fantastic idea, well executed and a very well made video. I have purchased a MLT 100 last year as well. Where did you buy the extruded Aluminum profile? Good job 👍 Jai Hind.

Thanks for your comments. I bought it from a local aluminum profile dealer in Bangalore, if you are living in the same city, i can share you their coordinates.
